If I say I have a regular bar that I stop by whenever I'm in Amsterdam, it would be Taboo. It's in the heart of the gayborhood with a number of other gay bars next door and across the street.
I've been stopping by for years but due to the pandemic, I haven't been here for 4 years. Surprisingly, bartender Nordin remembered me and ran over to say hello! That made me feel at home!
The bar has been completely renovated, with the bar counter in the opposite side now.
The rest room is still up a steep, narrow flight of stairs. Hold onto the bannister especially after a few happy hour drinks. I'm not sure why many centuries old Amsterdam buildings have restrooms on the top floor. Gravity?
Happy hour is the busiest time with cocktail tables full inside and out. Good and cheap drinks, nice bottles of wine, and complimentary hors d'oeuvres. It's a friendly place mostly full of regulars.
Taboo has also expanded next door to Taboo Cantina where you can sit and have more food. read more
