Ever a fixture of Clovis, NM, this location is celebrating 50 years in the town. I've visited this spot a few times and, while the spirit is quaint, the food is sometimes a slight step above food found at local fairs. It's a menu that has some Mexican fare, alongside burgers, cheese sticks, and deep fried Snickers bars. In my most recent visit, I had an assortment of fried foods: mozzarella cheese sticks, pork flautas, and a chimichanga stuffed with a hot dog and American cheese. All of the food was...fine. The cheese sticks were reliably tasty but desperately needed a marinara to dip into. The flautas were extra...porky(?)--something tasted off about them and I couldn't finish them. The hot dog chimi was what one would expect (if one expected such strange things): a fried tortilla stuffed with a wiener and plasticky American cheese. Needless to say, I wound up a bit ill for the next few days with a mild bout of some form of gastrointestinal distress. Could have been the glut of fried foods. Could have been the pork. One will never know, but I'm not willing to risk it again.
I would, however, get the fried cheese sticks any day. read more
