The Short Version: Hidden away little takeout spot serving Japanese food. Was ok but not as great as I had hoped. The Long Version: I've been wanting to try Takedon for some time now, but they are closed on weekends and their location is not that convenient for me. I finally got around to checking them out with my mom when I took a vacation day to take her to a medical appointment and have some mother-daughter hanging out time afterwards. My mom loves Japanese food and I love restaurants that are tucked away. So first off, Takedon is on the main floor of an office building. The building is one of a cluster and you definitely cannot see the business from the street. You have to know it's there and specifically go looking for it. My mom got the Gyudon Beef $18.50. I got the Chicken Curry $16 and we shared the Takoyaki $9 for 5 pieces. My mom thought her Gyudon Beef was ok, but she noted a very gamey smell to the meat. I had a small taste and didn't notice the gaminess, but found the meat too fatty for my liking. My chicken curry was chicken thigh meat and I also found it too fatty for my liking. The sauce was ok, but I didn't find it anything special. It also had carrots and potatoes and I got 2 pieces of steamed broccoli on the white rice. The rice had a little sprinkling of sesame seeds and seaweed dust on it, even though I requested no sesame seeds on our food. Luckily I was able to scoop out the rice containing sesame seeds and gave it to my mom. We did enjoy the Takoyaki. It had more octopus in it than other places we've had it at and it was flavourful and the texture was good. Service was courteous. There was a bit of a wait for the food because they were incredibly busy with orders. Overall the food was alright but from all the raving reviews online and how busy they were, I was really expecting to be more wowed. The restaurant is takeout only. There is no place at all to eat in. They have picnic tables outside of the building though. Finding the restaurant is a bit tricky. Even though the address is on Prince of Wales Drive you have to enter on Green Valley Crescent. You enter the parking lot which has an attendant at the gate. You usually get a ticket and have to pay on the way out, but the instructions from the restaurant are you tell the attendant you are picking up from Unit #150 and the attendant will let you in. Then you have to go around 2 buildings and then you'll finally reach the 3rd building which is where the restaurant is. You park in one of the spots labelled visitor parking. After you get your food, when you exit, hopefully the attendant remembers you and lets you out for free, lol, or I guess you can show the attendant the food you bought or the restaurant receipt.
