Oh Boy, The Set just keeps getting better and better. Once again, I opted for the OctoberBest deal currently going on in Brighton. The top 20 restaurants are offering a £20 special menu, it's really a great deal as you can try the best restaurants for a really affordable price. I forgot to take a photo of the set menu so I'm going by memory and my taste buds on true one. To start, a little amuse bouche of celeriac espuma, blueberries, a tasty little crunch and a drizzle of truffle oil. Holy Hell! Taste bud explosion! I could have devoured another 5 of those little bowls. Next, carrots! There were pickled carrots, carrot purée, carrot crisps. As a child, the only vegetable I ate were carrots so this was really something for me. Onto the mains. Oh. My. God. The description on the menu said 'baked potato - spring onion - brie'. I thought to myself, no way will the set plonk a baked potato in front of me. I cannot describe how amazing this dish was. Looks wise - beauty presentation, taste wise - no words. Really! It was baked potato purée, crispy baked potato skins (not the 'loaded potato skins' you get in generic pubs and bars. Literal crispy baked potato skins), charred spring onion, a little chutney and deep fried Brie. I am still dreaming of this dish. Dessert was milk and cereal but I forgot to take a photo of this and I think my mind was still on the baked potato! My dining partner is gluten free and they adjusted his dishes accordingly without loosing any of the wow factor. I need to go back for that baked potato. read more
