Having worked in the Lawrenceville/Bloomfield area of Pittsburgh for going on 20 years now, I had been by this...structure a trillion times without ever even noticing it. Only recently did I find out that concerts were being held in what is essentially...a garage.
Apparently, an artist does his or her work here during the day and rents the space out for metal, crust punk, and other types of underground bands to perform in. Not long ago, I managed to witness Hobbs Angel of Death, an obscure, long-lost act from Australia (!) make a stand here, and while their show was entertaining, I came away feeling that the venue itself is completely substandard. The acoustics are bad, the floor is uneven, the lighting is dim, and as far as I know, there are no restrooms or refreshments. Why this wasn't held at Howler's, a far more likable and adequate dive up the street, puzzles me. You might as well put on a show in a cave or an abandoned building.
