Notice that the only positive reviews on this Yelp page are from Nikki & Tamara. They are BOTH employees of the company! So here's a real review:
I ordered french doors from The Shutter Source on Sep 1st, 2023. I worked through their sales person, Tamra Hieronymus, who was very quick to communicate and helpful before we'd given any money... I paid a down payment of over one thousand dollars via Zelle directly to Allen (aka Art) Raymond Timmer & Holly Hively, the owners of the company. I was told the doors would be installed in 2-3 weeks after the measurements were taken on Sep 23rd. However, that was the beginning of a nightmare that would last months.
The communication from the company was like I was talking to someone I'd lent money to and was now trying to dodge me. I had to contact them so times to get any updates on the status of my order but they wouldn't respond for days. They'd give me dates that would just come and pass. They kept asking for details that I'd already given them and they refused to give me a clear date for the installation. It was insane, they just kept making childish excuses and delaying the process.
The worst part was that when I finally got them to put a date on the calendar for the install (12 weeks after I'd paid and ordered them) they never showed up! They did not answer any of my calls or texts for 4 days after no-showing, leaving me to believe I'd been completely scammed out of my money. Once they finally responded to a text days later it was short, vague, and like they were annoyed with ME! Never got a real explanation let alone an apology. I felt scammed out of my money and time.
At that point I asked for my money back and again I'd get no response! So I filed fraud claims with the state attorney general's office and the Federal Trade Commission which finally got their attention. Since they were pressured to respond by the state AG, they claimed they mailed me a check... which to this day (2 and a half weeks later) has not arrived. Then as a last-ditch effort, I threatened to sue them. At which point the owner (Holly Hively) finally Zelle'd my money back on Dec 15th.
It appears they have experience getting sued and losing; as in when they were sued in 2021 by Eastgroup Properties (case number CV2020-011729) which had Shutter Source pay out tens of thousands of dollars. So I assume they were afraid to get held accountable in court again.
September 1st to December 15th. Fifteen weeks of an exhausting attempt to get a thousand dollars back from this company that I believe if I hadn't threatened litigation would have taken my money and ran.
I want to warn other potential customers to stay away from The Shutter Source. They're dishonest, unreliable, and do not care about their customers once they get your money. read more
