I was blessed to be a reg' at Three Speed before the neighborhood exploded, and I am even more blessed that they haven't sold themselves out since.
If you have never been, the absolute best part is their back patio. Rain, shine, snow, sun this place is habitable for drinks year round. The old fireplace they have runs for the majority of our 3 Canadian Winter seasons keeping the patio cozy for brazen smokers and patio-ites. It's partially covered which is perfect for both rain and sun, and the trees are scattered about giving off the feeling of a tucked away forest Oasis in the middle of West Bloor West.
If you haven't been there it is easy to miss. Part of the collection of Bloor West establishments that have non-existent signage. On the south side of Bloor a few stumbling steps from Dufferin station.
Inside, it's a combination of thrift shop decore, exposed brick and 1980's cottage wood paneling = hipster perfect.
I've eaten most of the main dishes, but what keeps me coming back are the daily specials which never seem to overlap. Here are some of my fav dishes:
Soup of the day - Always fantastic. I don't think I have had the same soup twice, and it's always made with care and love. Not just scraps from the night before.
Veggie Ruben - A great mix of portobello mushrooms, sauerkraut, cheese and delicious sauce. Comes with a quaint little salad. Ask nicely for pine nuts to really spruce it up.
Veggie Samosas with Tamarind Dip - Fantastic starter. Vegetarian. Great starter if you want to get a few pints down before dinner but don't want an empty stomach. Comes in 3. Good for 2.
Gorgonzola Salad with Roasted Garlic & Pine Nuts - A great main if you want to eat relatively light. Make sure they go "light" on the dressing, sometimes it can get a bit saucy. Not the good kind.
Kitchen Plate - Worth the money. A giant plate of cheeses, olives, peppers, and of course MEAT. You can also do a very respectable veggie version.
Beer - all of it. They have a great selection on tap and easily 20+ varieties in bottles. Beau's on tap is my personal favorite. If beer isn't your thing they have a high-class selection of bourbon, and there is always a drink special that is completely original.
Be warned, this place fills up quickly. If you expect to get a table, especially for the patio in the summer get there EARLY. I mean, 6:15pm at the latest.
The only CON is that wait staff are overrun on busy nights. If you spend enough time there however, they get to know you and things go smoothly. read more
