THRIVE is a Pittsburgh-area charity nonprofit that holds a Supper Club to raise money to help refugees and immigrants from different countries to integrate into our communities. THRIVE provides the immigrants and refugees with basic necessities (e.g., clothes and household supplies) and assistance with finding housing, employment, and transportation.
Recently, I attended a THRIVE charity event to raise money for an Afghan family who are refugees and live in the Pittsburgh area. I paid $30 for a meat meal, $30 for a vegetarian meal, and tax, much of which is tax-deductible. The family prepared delicious Afghan foods and drinks for attendees, and then they gave an educational presentation about Afghanistan and their past and current lives. I enjoyed learning about this family and Afghanistan and meeting other attendees.
One suggestion for improvement, though, would be to clearly state in all emails where the event will be located. I ended up going to the incorrect church before doing to the correct church at a different address. read more
