You must stop here if you are passing by on I-80. Right off the freeway, Thunder Mountain Monument, near Imlay, Nevada, is an unusual roadside attraction. Built beginning in 1969 by Frank Van Zant, who called himself Chief Rolling Mountain Thunder, the sprawling folk art site features towering concrete structures and more than 200 sculptures made from discarded materials found within a 50-mile radius of the site.
