I was lucky enough to score an invite to the soft opening of Via313 in Kyle. My reservation was at 7:45. When I got there they said they were drastically overbooked and it was a 1 hour wait. The cool thing is... they took my cell phone number and texted me when the table was ready, so my party went and wandered the pet store next door and then sat in a nice shaded area near the restaurant and chatted instead of sitting in the entryway for the 45 minute wait. It was actually nice. At one point I asked for water and someone from Via brought water to us.. y'all... we weren't even AT the restaurant. That kind of service continued the rest of the night. Any time we needed something it was taken care of with a smile. On to the food. Two styles... Detroit Style (the inch-tall crust w/sauce on top) and Bar style (what most know as classic thin-crust pizza). Both were good, I recommend getting one of each and splitting it between 5-6 people. It's plenty. And plenty tasty. Since it was the soft opening, they encouraged us to order as much as we wanted... so each of our party ordered a pizza and the table got a beet salad (nicely dressed) and 3 appetizers. As for the appetizers... the cheese bread and roasted broccoli & cauliflower was good but the stand out was the delicious roasted artichokes - baked with mozzarella, goat cheese & marinara. As for adult drinks... I tried the Bear King Brewing Wandering Blonde Ale beer on draft. I like that they have a craft brew option (it's out of Marble Falls, TX). The only thing negative I'd say is... the place is loud. 6 of us sat at a booth and I couldn't hear much of the conversation because of the noise. Now... it was soft opening and VERY packed, but still I wish there was something to help with the acoustics. When I go back, it'll be when it gets cooler and I'll likely sit at the outdoor patio space. Overall... somewhat pricey.. but your getting a boutique pizza experience (this ain't a fast food place or "bring the little league team after a game" type place) so it's to be expected... and the cost is totally worth it. Oh.. Protip... if you have kids.. ask your server for some pizza dough for the kids to play with. They'll happily bring you some. Fun for adults too. :) read more
