I came to this place on the recommendation of a book seller around the corner when I told her I was looking for vinyl. Whatnot Consignments is a veteran-owned shop located on N. Eagle River Loop Rd. just down the street from the Taco Bell off of the Old Glenn Highway. The place is filled with all sorts of antique furniture, novelty items, clothing, home décor pieces, artwork, pop culture memorabilia, and yes, vinyl records. I was greeted by a friendly lady who is the owner/proprietor of the place and showed me where the records were stored. They were set in several crates against a glass counter close to the front register. What I found amazed me as a collector. There was a large collection of jazz albums from the late 60's to the early 80's. These were acquired from an estate sale just recently and a lot of them were in pristine condition. Jazz greats like Stanley Turrentine, King Curtis, Freddie Hubbard, Johnny Hammond, Ronnie Laws, and Jimmy Smith were all here, many of these were very rare and hard to find. What amazed me even more was the asking price for each record which was just $2 apiece! I eagerly grabbed a stack full of these incredible recordings and planned to come back to purchase more. The owner also said that they have a layaway program and that the dealer would be willing to sell all of them at a reasonable amount. What's great about their layaway program is that these guys are flexible, with no time limit. As long as you make a payment of $20 here or $40 there, it will stay under your name until the amount is fully paid off. With the dividend fund just around the corner, this is too good to pass up and I will be coming back first chance I get! read more
