With all the 5 star reviews and the love on Yelp!, I had high expectations for Yellow Cactus. Judging by the Friday dinner crowd, we were off to a great start.
The interior is welcoming, the. restaurant is clean and we were seated promptly. A server was Johnny on the spot with chips and salsas. One salsa was mild and the other had just a touch of heat. The menu is expansive.
But sadly, our food was underwhelming. My wife's chicken enchiladas with mole was flavorless. The chicken was dry and the mole sauce was woefully thin and failed to cover the enchiladas.
Chicken fajitas? Served sizzling with flour tortillas, lots of grilled veggies and overcooked chicken. Yellow Cactus only serves refried beans. No boracho. No charro. No black beans. I don't get it.
Our friends fared better. The chimichanga was large, filled with ground beef and smothered in cheese & gravy. The big winner was the el patron steak burrito. That disappeared.
Portions are generous. Service is very good. And prices are a tad high, but not oppressive. But the Yellow Cactus needs to improve their food quality to be worthy of those very generous 5 star reviews. read more
