I love Pub O'Clock! This is an Irish pub in the city center of Toulouse. It was the first real meal…read moreI ate the morning after arriving to Toulouse. By morning I mean when I finally got out of bed at 1 pm all jet lagged and starving. We went around the area a bit looking for some breakfast type food, which is as close to impossible as you can get if you're American. Breakfast in France is very different. We just really needed a solid meal. One that, apparently, only an Irish pub could understand. When we first walked by we were like "haha let's get breakfast at the pub". I looked at the menu and saw "English breakfast". I had a vague idea of what it was but I wasn't sure if I could handle the pub atmosphere at that moment. We kept walking. 5 minutes later, we're like "English breakfast". We were so hungry and it was right there and we could tell that the odds of finding anything other than a pastry was very little. I cannot even begin to tell you how glad I am that we did that. We found a perfect table outside, practically on the sidewalk, where we can eat and people watch. The waiter was great, he spoke very good English. He was really quick to take care of whatever we needed. The English breakfast was amazing. It had 2 eggs over easy, bacon, sausage, blood sausage, mushrooms, toast and beans. I was staying in Toulouse for a week. After a few days of the usual french breakfast of a pastry and coffee, I started fantasizing about the English breakfast.... One day I waited until they opened. The yelp page says they open at 10 AM but I didn't see anyone there until the afternoon. Finally, they were open! I went in and ordered my English breakfast and the girl behind the bar tells me they only serve it on the weekends. =-( I dried my tears and looked over the menu to see what else I might like. Fish n chips. Ok, there's no way it could possibly be better than the English breakfast. But, it could possibly be the best fish n chips I ever had. As a matter of fact, it absolutely without a doubt, was the best fish n chips I ever had. This story does have a happy ending. On our last day in Toulouse we got the English breakfast again. It was just as good as the first time. Highly recommend!

They do brunch here on Sundays - a traditional English brunch on the first Sunday of the month, and…read morea more seasonal/market brunch on the other Sundays of the month. Or you can pick fish & chips for your meal, but I didn't see anyone else ordering this when I was there. The place itself is more like a dive bar than a restaurant, but they have a decent amount of seating inside - most the tables being for 2 or 4 people. The weekend brunch is relatively inexpensive at 12€, but you get what you pay for as I found the quality not that great. The brunch has a decent assortment of savory and sweet things. You don't really get a choice of what you'll get for your brunch as it's all pre-determined based on what is fresh/from the market. When I went, I had the following: - Small salad with one piece of shaved carrot - Just lettuce with a lot of dressing. I found a lot of the salad pieces to be wilty, this had too much dressing, and the kicker was the bug that I found inside the salad. I stopped eating this once I found the bug - it was gross. - Pork stew - I think this was a pork stew, and this was actually quite good, this was our favorite dish of the brunch. The meat was tender and flavorful, and overall this was the best dish of the bunch. - Egg - I think this was supposed to be soft-boiled with a runny yolk, but it was more raw than boiled and when we dumped it into the bowl, it was like eating a raw egg. So we didn't eat this. - Turnip and Potato Mash - I think this is what this was - this was also decent and I had all of it. It went nicely with the stew. - Yogurt - This was a small cup of plain yogurt - it was decent but nothing to write home about. I put some honey in mine. - Bread - The bread was stale and hard which is a travesty in France since there's abundant amounts of delicious bread. - Chocolate Mousse - The texture of this mousse was a little odd; I expected it to be more fluffy and airy, but this was not the case. It was kind of soggy and just odd in texture. I tried one bite of this but didn't eat it. Overall, I wouldn't come back here for the brunch. I'm glad I tried it, but I'm sure you can find better food in Toulouse. Maybe the English brunch or the fish & chips are better than this, but I didn't think the quality of the food was that great here. Not expensive for a wide selection of food, but you definitely get what you pay for.

We were able to get a 7:30 reservation for 4 without any problem on a Sunday night. This restaurant gets two stars for the following reasons: 1. ham croquettes. Frozen on the inside and definitely not fresh which we found to be extremely disturbing. We were charged for them despite the fact that we sent them back. (they did bring us some "hot" ones which were likely just cooked in the microwave). 2. calamari. breaded beyond recognition and when we tried to eat it the stringy calamari just sort of fell out of the fried breaded stuff... needless to say we did not finish that small plate. 3. Gambas in chorizo sauce. the sauce was incredibly thick and had an odd taste and smell. the shrimp were completely submerged in this sauce and probably over 1000 calories. Besides this, the Patatas bravas were the only thing keeping us from walking out the door. sangria was fine, the service was fine and the ambiance was nice.

Great crowd and it was fun to sit at the bar to watch the owner carve the ham. They have full ham sides hanging at the side of the bar - very cool. We had a variety of tapas - baked garlic shrimp, potato fritters, Spanish ham, grilled calamari and a red pepper stuffed bread. It was all nicely done but the ham was outstanding. My friend said it is made from Spanish pigs that are fed fruit and free range. It was tender and slightly sweet - paired nicely with the pepper bread. We had a nice bottle of Spanish red wine which had a nice complexity despite being a 2011 vintage. I haven't been to other tapas bars in Toulouse for comparison but for the fun and food I can certainly recommend this one.
