10 Feet Tall is a cooky and eccentric vintage looking bar sister to buffalo bar and Mr Smith's that serves so great meals with wonderful drinks. As if that wasn't enough it hosts live music certain nights and quiz nights. It once hosted a Doctor Who themed quiz night. If that's not enough to please you then I don't know what will! I was luckily enough to go to a staff party in their function room upstairs with a full bar. The whole mood and atmosphere is very relaxed and we all had an excellent time there. They even supplied us with their food. They food looks unique and tastes incredible. Although I was confused to deciding whether what I was eating was a roasted parsnip or a well cooked French fry. To this day I still don't know what it was. This bar is a great place to hang out in groups. It's a friendly place that offers a variety of cocktails and it has a happy hour. The only thing that brings it down slightly is the prices like it's sisters Buffalo and Mr Smith's. So prepare to dig a little deeper in your wallet. 10 Feet Tall is a wonderful bar where you can enjoy a lunch or have great night out with all the events that they host. I'm a real fan of this place, even if they have no idea what a Cosmopolitan is. They've never got it right, but the resulting drinks are always drinkable, at least. This bar opened just before I went away to New Zealand and it has been a very pleasant rediscovery on my part. Great nights have been had here, and as I'm not really a fan of just getting too drunk, this is a wonderful place to get tipsy and chat about the Enlightenment. Atmosphere really is the thing that sets this bar apart from others in the surrounding area. And atmosphere is the one thing that keeps bringing me and my cohorts back time and time again. It's classy and funky without seeming snobbish in the slightest. Which is quite an achievement, I think. An excellent place for a night out, or the beginning of a night, if you're that way inclined. 10 Feet Tall is part of the same company as Buffalo Bar and Mr Smith's. Something about the way it is decorated, though, means that its junkshop-chic comes across as far more self-conscious. I'm not sure whether it's the mismatched chairs, or the odd collection of lamps. We went in after being given a flyer to get two main meals for £10. We weren't greeted by anyone and were unsure whether we should seat ourselves. In the end, we just went ahead and did it. The waitress came over very quickly to take our drink order but we didn't get the drinks for about ten minutes. I ordered a halloumi and portobello mushroom burger, which came with coleslaw and herb chips... Well, they were chips with about three specks of herbs but they were very nice. The actual burger itself was delicious. It was served on ciabatta, with roasted red peppers. Oh, it was lovely. We also ordered Hasselback potatoes with it, purely because we didn't know what they were. They tasted good but, having looked for them on Google since, it doesn't seem that they were genuine Hasselbacks. To be honest, though, I don't really care; they were lovely. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch because, with the offer, it is really good value for money. read more

We were awfully glad we could sit down during rugby - a simple menu, a large choice of beers, reasonable prices and a large screen for watching the matches. I got off a bus in Cardiff from Liverpool around 8PM to check out the city in a short amount of time because I had to catch a bus to London at 3AM that same night. After looking at Cardiff Castle and eating at The Prince of Wales, I needed a place that was open late so I could hang there until the bus departure time. I found 10 Feet Tall was open until 3AM so this place was ideal. I put my big pack down under some tables and danced for a couple hours to kill time. I even got to charge my phone for a while. So, 10 Feet Tall is a great/useful place for folks who need a place to hang around for a while at night. read more

This is billed as a café bar and live music venue, though I have only recently discovered its music events! Its quite a compact place, but really funky with leather sofa's and flock wallpaper. I've eaten here a few times, mostly the tapas kinda stuff they have. It's not bad value and a nice place to relax and unwind, though drinks aren't that cheap. What I failed to notice until recently is that there's something going on here every night to suit different tastes. Its one of the only places I know of that's open till 3am on a Monday night and till 4am most other nights. Spanning three main floors, with an additional basement club that you have to queue for separately, 10 Feet Tall is in a great location in the heart of town - just off down the pedestrianised lane leading from St John's Church. Owned by the same people that are behind the successful and very cool Buffalo Bar (also near the city centre) and Mr Smith's (in Cathays), it is similarly chic but perhaps feels a little more impersonal. The place is pretty funky and they serve plenty of cocktails, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it feels too pretentious. Drinks are not too pricey, and the music's pretty varied throughout the week, catering for different tastes. It's a great venue to watch bands in, with some nice big comfy sofas and a dancefloor and stage area. read more

I have only been to 10 feet tall a couple of times and the problem is I want to love it so much yet something always seems to go slightly wrong. For example the two out of the three times I have eaten there they have got at least one plate of food wrong and when I say wrong I mean brought out the wrong dish (luckily we has the foresight to check what we were given the second time around!). It was all fixed quickly and I can't complain about the service because it was a small misunderstanding and for the bargain price of 2 for £10 I feel slightly guilty in writing this. However the food was good I had the pork, sage and apple burger and it tasted amazing and made me feel very content. The drinks aren't that cheap although there is selected times where the cocktails are two for one. I've never been to see the music in this place (although I've heard it from the outside) but it just didn't seemed to entice me inside as every time I've walked past when there was a gig on its just appeared to be acoustic solo artists and that rarely floats my boat. read more

Many would agree that the mid-week late license and live music nights have it, but others would say it's the daytime vibe, with pub grub style food, made with a healthy dollop of creative licence, or the light bites / tapas menu... but for me the food is an embellishment, and the music is the key! Staying open till something like 3.am on a Monday, 10 Feet Tall is willing us to disobey! It's flouting the rules of good sense and career mindedness, bidding us to let our hair down and sod the staff meeting at 9.00am on Tuesday morning! Here is another establishment run by the same group that bring you Mr Smiths and Buffalo bar. I tend to think this is the best of the three joints. 10 Feet Tall is ideally situated if you are out on the town and covering St Mary's street's establishments on the evening or a good place to go if you are looking for a bite to eat whilst shopping. i have been here during the day and opted for the two meals for ten pounds deal. We both had burgers and these were no ordinary burgers, they seemed to be home made burger fare and the fries were covered in a spicy coating, all served up to you on what can be described as a chopping board - apparently serving food up on planks of wood makes it seem more special? I really enjoyed my meal and thought this was a great deal, but beware it is only at lunchtimes and if you don't opt for this deal then it gets mighty pricey. I have been here in the evening also and have enjoyed it's decor and the atmosphere it seems to create. The drinks can be quite expensive but occasionally they put on cocktail deals. There are 3 floors to this venue and you will often find gigs happening on the top floor. Overall, I enjoy this venue and would definitely return to try more of the menu. read more

10 feet tall always seems busy when I walk past, but sadly this seems to be simply because it's a place to be seen, rather than a place to enjoy yourself. They have all the opportunities to make this place a great venue, but somehow it's lacking in everything that make's its sister bar Buffalo great. The decor is inviting with leather chairs in the bar and the restaurant upstairs is decked out with bookshelf effect wallpaper making it feel somewhat cosy. But there is still an air of coldness running throughout the place. The food is nice and not too overpriced. I went for eggs benedict and wasn't disappointed. But everything seems slightly off, as if it's trying to hard to be trendy. A new gallery has opened above 10 Feet Tall, so I may pay another visit to see whether the atmosphere has warmed up at all. Lovely venue to watch bands in, upstairs is a large bar and stage room with great big sofas and a dancefloor and stage area. I saw Top Shelf Jazz in here and it was the perfect venue for a bit of charleston dancing (with plenty of jazz hands thrown in for good measure). It has become hard to generate a substantial description of this hip bar after someone in my circle sent a text around with the simple message: 'TFT mate. Fit girls. Banging tunes.' Although the number of attractive females is not normally the deciding factor in whether or not I go to a place or not, I'm fully confident that this micro-review sums 10 Feet Tall up to the max. This is a place where Cardiff's sophisticated yet fun-loving types gather to enjoy the tastes of some of the city's most on-the-mark DJs. The bar is stocked with an impressive selection of spirits. I recommend one of their flavoured vodkas with a mixer. If that's not your thing, order a pint of the Czech Staropramen, a flavoursome brew which reinvents the meaning of the term, 'lager'. I've found that the drinks deals here are rather sporadic. Sometimes the cocktails are buy one get one free, sometimes not. It's worth asking whatever time you get in. The building used to be Italian restaurant, Topo Gigio's, but I think the new owners make much more of the space. 10 Feet Tall is on 3 levels; restaurant upstairs, bar on ground level and club downstairs. It's popular all week and can be heaving on weekends. There are tables and chairs on the pavement outside, but these get snapped up quickly when the weather is good. The decor is fantastic. Everything's different - there's no uniformity here. Each chair is different, each lampshade is different, each picture frame etc. The term 'eclectic mix' couldn't describe anything better than the collection of furniture and decoration in 10 Feet Tall. There's a cracking big leather corner sofa at the back of the bar and if you get that, you're set for the night. It's not cheap - cocktails cost £6 and pints can cost £4 - but they do make good cocktails and they have 2-4-1 on selected drinks between 5 and 9pm weekday evenings. Between 8 and 9, the bar tends to be rammed and you can wait 20 mins for a drink, as everyone's ordering 2-4-1 cocktails and they take a while to make. Haven't tried the restaurant yet, but me and some friends had Tapas in the bar and it was OK - everything was a bit salty but it was fairly tasty and reasonably priced. very dissapointed at this place. It is like many a place in cardiff now, trying to be all trendy. And for that im not to keen, yes i like the antlers and doors etc on the walls, very kitch, but the staff are rude, and the place lacks character. The manager in perticualr is very rude, and i have no time for the place for it! at a works do where we spent a lot of money and rented the palce out, random members of public were let in by the incompident bouncers and my new digital cmera was stolen when i left it on the bar, but thought would be ok around work friends. I tried to leave me details, and ask if they had found it, but they wouldnt let me back up or even go and look for me, i then left details with manager, who was being very abrubt and rude. i then tried a few days later to see if it had been found and the 1st person who hopless and told me to try ringing later when someone who knew where stuff might be kept. Eventually got manager again, and again just rudness, a manager should be opena and easily talked to..!! he was like, i havent seen it, what you want me to do about it!? not even a whats your number so if found ill get back to you. outrageous! i missed a friends 1st cardiff gig because it was in this place, i refuse to go there again! apart form this they do serve nice beer! thats all they got going for them i say and the floors bounce when you dance read more

A brilliant night out - relaxed atmosphere - eclectic mix of punters and music. Set out on three floors, overlooking the Church and Owain Glyndwr, this is a little gem of a place. The second floor is a seating area and restaurant during the day and early evening, and is covered in wallpaper designed like bookcases. The third floor is divided into sofas and a small dancefloor.
