So, I stopped here on my whim. I've only been in Boston a few weeks and needed real food after an exhausting day at work. I was heading towards the Chinese food restaurant across the street when, to my surprise, I spotted a Dominican restaurant. I was so excited.. Real Hispanic food was in my future! Being a NewYoRican raised in an Italian neighborhood in the Bronx, my Spanish is conversational at best but I always try to pull as much English out of Spanish speakers as possible. That being said, no one working spoke a lick of English but my waitress certainly tried her best to communicate effectively. The music playing was loud, but you could still see that people were able to hold a conversation comfortably over it. There were a few families at tables and a table of gentlemen all watching the game over beers. I sat at the bar only because I was alone. I throughly read through the menu before placing my order. That night I was on a budget so I went for inexpensive and classic: Mofongo de Pollo and a plate of rice and beans. Both were reasonably priced. I was served in a timely manner and the presentation was just fine. Both plates tasted good but nothing to really brag about. The hook here and reason for my two stars was one smaller kicker that made all the difference. My waitress recommended a passion fruit juice and I said sure. I noticed as she served me in a large glass filled with ice, that it was from a gallon of Tampico. No huge problem there, but when I saw my bill and realized they charged me $4 for 6oz of Tampico, I was completely turned off by the restaurant. I confirmed that the price was correct and payed my bill but considering that the overall experience was lackluster and that I was charged $4 for 6oz of a drink that costs $1+/- for a gallon.. eh, I think I'll pass on coming back. read more

Wow I am extremely disapointed at all the negative reviews this place is getting, I mean if you're Dominican or from the Caribbeans you know how it is when a few of the guys become regulars at a barbershop, a bar or where ever, there will be music and there will be beers, sports, and discussions, its crazy what people call an ambient others are accusing of other things, and to top it off all latinos! Wow! For real like how can you walk in a place and state it as racist starting by the music?? Really! So if im Hispanic and walk in a Jamaican restaurant and hear a Bob Marley joint on I can get a racial tension from it? For real? Or if I walk in a Ihop and Hear some rock I can feel some racial tension? -_- it's all about background and if we went there it would be for the experience and its common to know what to expect. From the outside this place looks very homey so I was surprised to find white tablecloths, cloth napkins and beverages (whether water, milkshake or beer) being served in large wine glasses when I entered for the first time. The atmosphere is still very casual - the ceiling is fitted with party lights, there's a small space in the corner where I'm assuming they do karaoke and the walls are lined with televisions. As for food, I wasn't a huge fan of the chicharrones de pollo - the fried coating was deliciously crispy and light but the chicken meat had an off-flavor. The pollo guisado hit the spot but I was disappointed at the small portion size. They are very generous with the sides of rice and beans or moro. Pechuga a la plancha and mofongo de pollo are safe bets for a filling meal. I ordered the mofongo for takeout and could smell the garlic through the container which excited the garlic lover in me. I had no issues with the service and this place has one of the nicest bathrooms I've seen in a Dominican restaurant. read more

This place is the worst. Let me first start with the way the waitress look at you the minute you walk in. They are not professional at all they all have attitudes. SO, where do i start? I usually order from here when im at work. (My whole team orders together) At first they were pretty good and since we order catering we started ordering daily just for regular lunch. They say 30-40 minutes but end up bringing the food more than 3-4 hours late(its happen more than once) i asked about getting a refund and the lady said no even when it was their own fault the food got sent somewhere else. Let me start by saying it is overprice for the location and the quality.The staff is rude and unprofessional, when i asked if my food was ready i got ignore twice by two different waitress. I order Mofongo (mash plantain with pork), and grilled chicken breast, $25.60 ridiculous. I have order the same meal at similar restaurant in even more upscale neighborhood for way less. I really do love and appreciate Dominican food so I was happy to come in with my husband and try this place out. I figured why not go in and support a low key neighborhood restaurant? I couldn't even believe the horrible attitude of our female server as soon as we ordered "waters". First of all, water is recommended in general but don't look at me sideways because I ordered it when I'm visibly 8 months pregnant! That is always going to be my drink of choice. She would literally ask us things while looking away as if she couldn't even handle looking in our direction. I asked for salt for the tostones we ordered and she placed it on the table 5 minutes later while looking away mad careless and said "your salt". It was just so nasty and rude- my husband was so upset. I mean you're a waitress on Hyde Park Ave in the hood practically - let's be a little nicer to customers. The restaurant was empty, you'd think she'd step her game up for a decent tip. I know I most certainly would if I was in that line of work, in a location that I imagine doesn't get a lot of traffic on a normal basis. Food is AMAZING. However, the service is just tacky. You basically seat yourself. The tables have no tablecloths. The menu says they have black beans, but whenever I've asked for them, they say they don't have any. All drinks are served in oversized wine glasses. Music is extremely loud (on occasion). Where do I start with Delicias, when I first went to Delicias I wanted to give them a negative zero? I had just started working in Roslindale when I saw a Dominican restaurant during my lunch break, I was so excited, it is the closes thing to Haitian food, I was tired of Chinese and pizza for lunch. Therefore, I am like yea-real food. I go in and immediately, I receive a nasty look from a few people and some waitresses. I stood had the counter and was not acknowledge for 10 minutes and when I finally was, it was by someone who barely spoke a lick of English but I am hungry and I am looking at some people's plate and food looks really good. My lunch break was half an hour; it took a 1-hour to get my food. The food was pretty good compare to what I have been eating, I had promise my self to never return but like I said I needed real food, so like a fool I tried again, but this time I called first, when I got there waited 45 minutes for my food, same look same reaction. This was repeated for a while like I said their food is pretty decent, so I go there with prejudice but then I met a waitress named cookie, who doesn't speak English but try, she is so lovely, that I only go there when she works, I wish she owned the place. She is very attentive and thoughtful. The rest could learn a lot from her. The food is a 4 at best but service from anyone else other then cookie is -2. So I going to be nice and give it a three stars but if all the waitresses were like cookie then they would get a 4 on another note once I ordered chicken patties and they gave me cheese instead, another time I ordered cod fish and find shrimp tale in it (gross) but for the amount of time I been there I will over look it. I read the reviews but needed my Dominican food fix and I had the complete opposite experience. They must have listened because the place was clean with nice decor. The waitress was attentive and we were served quickly (yes, we both speak Spanish). My crab empanada appetizer was another pleasant surprise (it's hard to find these). My husband and I ordered the coconut shrimp with tostones which were cooked perfectly and were so tasty he wanted to order another dish! He had a papaya milk shake and I had the morir soñando which were both amazing. Maybe I have different expectations when going to Dominican restaurants (yes the music was loud but that's how we roll) but this was definitely not as bad as I thought it would be based on the reviews. We picked a table and then menus were brought out. We waited 15-20 minutes without service, water or being checked on. Several parties arrived after us and there order was taken. My husband, my five year old son and I went to order take out. We had eaten there a little while back and we thought the food was okay as well as the service. We waited while the staff had a chit chat session in the corner of the bar and tried to get their attention. No one paid us any. My first yelp review and honestly, it's because of how poor the service was. We walked in and ordered some drinks to start. It took our waitress almost 10 minutes to bring out our drinks. First red flag there given there was only one other party in the restaurant and we didn't order any alcohol. We ordered food and then proceeded to wait for basically 45-55 minutes. During this whole time, our waitress only came to check on us ONE time. When we tried to flag her down, she proceeded to put her finger up and say one minute as if we were bugging her. When she did come over, I had already put my coat on ready to leave. When we told her how unacceptable the service was, she blamed the kitchen saying the grease was cold so that was where the holdup was. We then proceeded to give her a 5 minute warning and all of a sudden not even two minutes later, the food was done. I never even got to eat my food after waiting damn near an hour and a half for a plate of stuffed grilled chicken with shrimps. My family and I decided to support our neighborhood restaurant Delicias Dominicans. When we enter there was a security guard which suggest they expect trouble or tries to control it. We usually go to all the neighborhood restaurants all over our home town of Boston and have yet to see security in there until they turn nightclub. To have security all day does not make me comfortable to sit and eat here. One doesn't feel welcome at all here there were no smiles or anyone who greeted or showed us to a table. Their customer service skills fell short. When I attempted to order they the young lady kept rolling her eyes and sucking her teeth and informed me they don't have anything i asked for from the menu. I would hope that the owner would want to train his people to understand that we matter. It's the cousmers veiw and experience that matters in this kind of business and if one would like us or anyone to return beside the drug dealers then please train your staff. read more
