Yelp is basically an extortionist for small businesses. There are no review guidelines encouraging unhappy or unruly customers to contact a manager if unhappy. Anyone can anonymously post anything no matter how crazy it may be.
In addition as one of 2 places online where consumers can get information about a business, they use the platform to extort small businesses by charging a fee to keep them from advertising your competitors on their listing.
Boycott yelp, if you are unhappy reach out to a business. We want to make our customers happy and care about their experience. Stop enabling yelp to squeeze small business owners.
For what it's worth:
1*: I was discriminated against or they literally tried to defraud me
2* Terrible customer service and uncaring even after reaching out to a manager
3* Ok but overall not a great experience, I was ignored etc (still reach out to a manager because a 3* is still bad for business
4* Overall a pretty good experience
5* good experience I felt like they really cared. I enjoyed my interaction
As a Business owner we have good reviews, I just hate that yelp is complicit in putting a permanent record out in the world with no recourse when people lie, slander, or are just blatantly unreasonable. Then at the same time they are trying to squeeze us for money to keep them from advertising competitors on our listing. read more
