Went to check out this place. They have a large variety of things. I was looking for Filipino items like longanisa, pancit canton, tocino. What shocked to me is that they have Portuguese sausage . I was so stoked!!! Very happy indeed cuz the other Asian markets did not have it at all. I found some takuwan which is pickled radish and they have fish cake too. We also bought a big bag of rice. I really love that 168 Asian Market has such a diverse selection of Asian groceries. They have a great variety of condiments, sauces, snacks, and other products that can be difficult to find at regular grocery stores. It's definitely one of the reasons I enjoy shopping here. However, I did notice some products in the refrigerated sections, snack aisles, and condiment/sauce aisles that either didn't have an expiration date listed or appeared to already be expired. I just wanted to point this out as something for both the store and customers to be aware of. If you're shopping here, I would recommend taking a moment to check the expiration dates on the products you're purchasing, especially items from the refrigerated sections, snack aisles, and sauce/condiment aisles. We dropped by 168 Asian Market again to pick up some essentials and general every day sundries. They have the usual items in stock but there was a stack of Shin ramen that caught my eye because of its Huntrix-themed packaging. I don't know why but for some reason I found it amusing. This place is such a fun hidden treasure! My family loves exploring cool new finds here. We accidentally found the propitious mango ice cream here and wow it was incredible! They sold out the second time we back, but they said they would restock so we'll have to try again. People who work here are for the most part really friendly. Looking for more Asian vegetables to cook up and could not find what I was looking for. They did have bitter melon, which I wished I had bought some now, but was not in the mood when I was there. I'm gonna drop my first new midtown Reno review with one-six-eight. As a new resident to the midtown and Reno community it is very necessary for me to suss out all my cooking and baking needs. As I am from both the Bay Area and New York(bicoastal no more), I have very specific nodes where I do my shopping. Back in SF I would always head out to Clement street to Kameii to do all my kitchenware shopping. And then potter around the neighborhood to buy all my Asian fare food shopping. And stock up on basic necessities. 168 is a fantastic home away from home for everything I just detailed. Kitchenware, vegetables proteins and all the sundry items needed to prepare any Asian cuisine. All in one spot. Prices are good. Everything fresh and the store itself is clean and organized. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. So happy I have this as my go to for all my Asian culinary needs. You can even find some great (albeit frozen) Dim Sum. But they're really delicious! I had a hard time writing this review because I am from the Bay Area and there are so many Asian supermarkets out there. And only 2, that I know of, in Reno. My friend just told me that there are 4 more Asian supermarkets in Sparks; I will visit them soon. Quality/Quantity - Okay, we had a craving and did an emergency run for some dry noodles. Atmosphere - Plenty of parking. This place never seems to have many customers. The place seems clean and organized. Service - Okay, seems nice, the cashier did not really talk. Price - Expensive compared to the Bay Area, but when it is your only option... 4% Credit Card Surcharge I am NOT a fan of all these additional fees when we travel - Surcharges, Living wage, SF Mandate, SF Ordinance, resort fees, parking fee, mandatory hotel tip on invoice, etc. Especially since all businesses charge differently, have different names and percentages, etc. In summary, if two businesses are the same cost but one with the "additional fees" versus one with just higher prices, I would prefer to frequent the higher price businesses. I prefer that you just raise the price, which most of us are willing to pay versus feeling "nickled and dimed". Many of us do NOT like to see an extra tax/fee on our bill. Is this a price sensitivity issue or marketing issue? In your case, maybe offer a cash discount vs a credit card surcharge? Owner Suggestion - Congrats on your success since 2000. read more

Was in town to check out a couple of specific ingredients when cooking traditional food, I found them here at this location. There are a variety of imported goods here and a decent small section of produce and seafood, dry goods and meats. It's a mom and pop store which I truly support. The attendant at the register was polite and boxed my items . I would come back again when in town. read more

My friend had tried dried squid (jerky) while he was in Texas and told me I needed to try it. He suggested we could get it at an Asian market. So we went to this one. They also carry some fresh vegetables, frozen meats, and to my surprise, they also carry pots, pans, sushi display cases, utensils, and you name it really. This store is conveniently located on South Virginia near the Peppermill. Sometimes, if you are lucky, they do have freshly made desserts on the counter. My favorite is the sesame balls, but the cashier told me they will no longer carry sesame balls. Although this place is small, it has all my favorite Asian snacks and noodles. Oh, this place reminds me of the Chinese markets in Chinatown, a little run down but carries essential items including plates and woks. I even found a bamboo steamer! Ranch 99 doesn't even carry that. I love how they have all sorts of canned milk teas and flavored teas. This is a must because Reno has a poor selection of boba shops, and I need my caffeine fix in the morning that's not coffee! I wished they carried more fresh produce. My bf, however, managed to find some Asian pears in the fridge, which was why we came here in the first place. Moving here from the Bay Area so I needed to make sure there was an Asian market in the area for all my Asian cooking needs! It's not an authentic Asian market if you don't get a whiff of fish, Chinese medicine, or both when you walk in. You get ignored by the person working the counter (who obviously doesn't want to be there), and you're left alone the entire time you roam the store. They have a better variety of frozen products than Asian Mart down the road. They have frozen dimsum, Asian snacks, all the sauces, noodles, rice, etc., but their produce section is lacking, (just like Asian Market). Not much to choose from in that section, so I'm still on the search. Also, no hotpot meat! :( This may be the best option for dimsum in the area if you know how to heat/steam/pan fry the dimsum at home. The prices are reasonable, but I do miss the variety of Asian markets I had in close proximity with cheaper prices back in the Bay :( read more

Little selection of crack seed was just enough to satisfy my crave. We find so many staple ingredients for our taste in cooking. Fresh, frozen, great selection of rice, some kitchen wear. Far better place than the other that got new owners. The employees are always so very helpful in finding what we're looking for. When I found the wonton wrappers in 168 Asian market, I noticed that the expiration date is "Sept 2022", which means the product is expired for 2 months. I checked several other similar wonton wrappers, some of them were also expired, some of them didn't show expiration date. As the result, I asked the owner what's the expiration date. Guess what, the answer I got from the owner is "OH REALLY? THEY ARE EXPIRED? I DONT KNOW THAT. THEN DONT BUY IT." And I was like: "Excuse me?!" I WOULD NEVER GO THERE ANYMORE. read more

3.5 stars. This is your typical Asian store... higher prices than you'd expect, but there are some redeeming qualities. Today I spent $20 on a bag of fresh baby bok choy, two cans of bamboo shoots, a bag of shrimp snacks, frozen pork meatballs, and a box of poppin' cookin' toy/snacks. They also have lots of lucky bamboo plants and some fresh food. Around the perimeter of the store are frozen food cases with a lot of variety. There's an aisle with household items like cookware and plates. When I'm in the area, I definitely think about popping in to see what they have or picking up a few items that I need. The selection of frozen dumplings hit all my major needs and I spent more time considering miso then I care to admit. The only thing on my list that I didn't find was kewpie Mayo (look I am who I am don't hate) but that could have been my fault because my arm was tired after all the staring at the miso.
