I went looking for a drywall repair company to fix small areas on the walls/ceiling where I removed a room in my house. I reached out to 1st Choice Drywall Repair via their text line in hopes of getting a quote. 1. OVERPRICED When I texted them, I sent pictures as instructed and asked for a quote. They quickly got back to me and told me it would cost $1700. I had talked to several other reputable companies who all quoted me around $1000 ($950, $1050, etc) and theirs was extremely high. 2. DISRESPECTFUL When i told them, "Okay I'll pass as I've gotten quotes for around $1000," they replied saying "good luck, I doubt they will do quality work." All they could have said was "thank you for your time, good luck" but they didnt. They then continued to message me regarding lower prices (Down to $1500), even though I told them I would pass and continued to degrade other "said" companies who do bad quality work, despite never knowing which company I went with. At one point, I pointed out that it was rude of what they said and their reply was "its just the truth." I ended up blocking their number because it felt toxic. I ended up going with a different company who did the work really well, but I am disappointed that a company with so many reviews did this and treated a potential costumer this way. read more

1st Choice Drywall was a weird exchange from the beginning to the end. I was moving an outlet in bathroom basically from a vertical orientation to a horizontal orientation. I contacted 1st Choice through email as stated on their website. I sent pictures and told them what I wanted. They said they didn't touch the electrical part of it as they weren't electricians - that is fine, I can do that myself. But after about 17 emails back and forth the job wasn't all that clear to either party. 1st Choice kept mentioning the electrical part of it which I didn't understand because they clearly stated from email #1 that they would not do the electrical. But still, I needed to communicate to them that part of the job was to ensure that there would be a hole cut out for the electrical. Surely that part of the job needed to be expressed? Finally a deal was struck for $120. This is better than other companies that charge $250 minimum so I went with it. Because I was reorienting the receptacle the hole was only about 4"x4". So for $120, that seems pretty steep. When he came I didn't have the plug reoriented because I thought that the deal was he would patch the entire hole and cut out the new receptacle hole. That was not what he understood - he understood that I'd have the receptacle in the new location. So I had to redo the receptacle on the spot while he prepared other things. He was not happy. He patched and did the texture spray. But to my surprise left the spray on there and left the sanding and "knock down" to me. Being a DIY person I did as instructed. I would say that the texture is not matched as I expected. I am sure we could debate on whether it is my fault for sanding too much or because he sprayed the texture too much - but to me the fact remains... why am I finishing the job in the first place? In retrospect if I had known that I was going to pay $120 for someone to put a 4"x4" piece of drywall in, I had to cut the new plug hole, and I had to do the texturing then I would have just done it myself. I had already done other areas but since this was in a super obvious area I wanted it to look a bit more professional. In the end I am sure that 1st Choice might be good for big jobs. But for small jobs it isn't worth it, especially for a DIYer like me. I'm including pictures of the plug reorient and the texture for you to judge. read more

Awesome! I had to call after my daughter attempted to "wall run" which is exactly what it sounds like ‍. He came the following morning (which was this morning) and worked quickly and neatly. Here is a before pic along side the pic right after he finished. I still have to let it dry, sand a little and paint it but I'm so happy this is done. The cost was $100 which I think is fare. Good work but horrible attitude and demeanor. For me, customer service is everything. Coming into a job, you would think someone is upbeat and friendly, but that wasn't the case. He Seemed upset to be working, cussing at times when he spoke, which I didn't appreciate and found unprofessional. My wife arrived and said, "hello," he gave a smug response, which made the afternoon awkward and we couldn't wait for him to finish. He also seemed to talk down on the work we attempted to do and criticized the house which we recently purchased which is funny because the "need for work" is why we solicited his services. I hate to be that guy to give a bad review, but this guy is pretty unprofessional for several reasons. He responded quickly, called the night before to confirm, showed up on time and did a good job for a fair price. I will give him that. But, here's my issue: His attitude is a total grump. Nobody forced you to come to my house. He was kind of rude to my wife and talked to my brother like he was an idiot. I was going to let it slide until I came home and saw he ruined a shelf of mine by leaving a wet sponge on it, and he dumped out his bucket of drywall mud in my grass!! He even seemed to complain that I added an extra hole in the wall by telling my brother (who was home while he was working) "Its $340, even though I did more work than I was supposed to." How? I sent photos of every repair except the one he inspected on site and quoted separately. Because of this there's no reason for me to put up with his attitude and ever use him again. Its just drywall repair, not rocket science. I only hired him so I could finish other projects in the house faster. He patched two holes where medicine cabinets were removed, and some holes where a towel hook was removed. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the texture seems to be much wider or larger than the rest of the wall, but I've heard matching texture is difficult and an art. Still, I would definitely recommend this company for any drywall repair and would use them again myself. Finally, be aware it is cash only, as I expected. Beware! Horrible customer service. First I text pictures and get a generic estimate but then want sure he could do the job due to the ceiling height. So setup a time for them to come by and check the height and give a better estimate, I asked for a Sunday time which I appreciated since I know it was the weekend. The guy ended up going to the wrong house and was 2 hours late. And I asked to not ring the doorbell, multiple times, due to my kids napping. Not only did he ring the doorbell but gave me attitude when I called him out on it, he didn't even have the common courtesy to apologize and gave me a lame excuse that his phone had died even though he replied and got my text messages about not ringing the doorbell. And then he left without checking out the job and giving me a proper estimate. So late, poor people skills plus unreliable when he makes an appt. Scott, I'm apologize if you thought I was rude to you answering the door. Having 2 kids under 2, most parents, like myself, don't get a lot of sleep and are tired and exhausted and to be honest, you were lucky I even opened the door since you woke up my kids. And maybe next time, when you reply to comments, you should think about the customer first and apologize and ask for a retraction and ask how you could make it up. That would have been more professional on your part for thinking of the customer first and "the customer being right mentality" goes a long way these days since so few companies still believe in that. But you have every right to refuse service and I have freedom of speech to log my account of what happened. Baseboard repair and tall wall around bathtub repair. We have used Scott twice now, he is truly an artist, his work is amazing and he works super fast. We are one of those stories that we had two sets of bad handymen come in and tore our house apart. Scott repaired our walls after we had to remove the bad floor ceramic tile job that was done to us, also the bad install of baseboards having to be removed as well. 2nd job was when the glass tile around our bathtub got installed so badly that it had to all be removed. He worked with me on my budget, allowing me to hang the sheetrock and only charging me $375 to tape and texture 3 areas; one kitchen area and two areas in the bathroom. He was in and out in under 90 minutes with no return time required. He said to let it dry over night and recommended the sealer to use before painting.
