Where do I start? I hired Shay to clean and treat my roof. He originally gave me a competitive price. then he said he needed to come back and do a bit more and do a bit of sealing. He then surprised me with wanting another few hundred dollars which was NOT discussed. He gave me an estimate for repairs and it was not the lowest but was doable. That was end of April. I paid half down beginning of May with the promise that supplies were purchased and I was on the schedule. 8 weeks later he finally shows up for ONE day. He announced the next day my whole roof was rotted and needed to be replaced. His words..."shit roof". He discussed for an extra $3000 he could do more extensive repairs in lieu of replacement. I asked for a written estimate. the estimate came in an extra $9k. this was over the last long July 4th weekend. I "disapproved" the change order. I texted this, sent two emails and finally when I asked about getting it completed prior to rain on Wednesday, he said :"It'll be no problem for us". I added that I wanted to ensure he does NOT buy supplies as I said NO to the extensive work he wanted to do. They show up on Monday, late again. I called Shay again to ensure he knew I did NOT approve the extra work. he then proceeded to curse me out, that the supplies were already purchased and the work already started. I said that makes no difference as I never approved any of it. The cursing continued. BTW-the ridge vent had only just then was being pulled up about two feet before I stopped them. he then demanded more money to put things back together or he would make his guys leave my roof open and exposed. he finally hung up on me when i did not give in. he called back and I agreed to pay him all but the last $2k just to get this closed prior to raining. I called the office, Chepe was very nice and took my card number. After the roof was done that day my plan was to pay the rest by cashiers check. when I checked my account I found that the last payment had already been processed by 1st Choice...without my authorization. From the other reviews, this seems to be his tactic. How he is still in business is beyond me. Although this is a long review please DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! If I could give this 1/10 of a star, I still wouldn't but the only choice that I have is one star. This company can kiss my butt. Trust me. I wanted to use a different word. Let me say first off the quote was way off and I ended up spending about $3000 more in the end and it's still not good. As I put this on yelp right now I have another company out here that's gonna charge me money to fix this bad job. Thanks a lot First home Construction you jack hole! Had the glass repaired in my huge skylight on top of my roof. After cracking the corner of the glass while they were installing it, I then had to buy another sheet of glass which added onto the total price. When they installed it a few days later, the temperature changed and the glass broke again. All they did was come out and silicone it. Once the weather started changing to rain, it started leaking and putting spots into the ceiling. I called them. They came out did some supposedly and then it started leaking again, sent out another person to come out. He then scratched up the glass on the outside, put on so much silicone that you can now see it from the inside and it looks godly. Yet continued to leak so then I went up on the roof myself and found spots not calked or sealed. I then sent a text message telling him how pissed off I was that my ceiling is still leaking and I've got spots on my ceiling from the water. I am now going to post his Text message reply. "I've been keeping in touch with you for years. We've been out there trying our best to chase a leak that nobody else has EVER found before. I've spent so much time and you know it. That whole skylight was built by a bunch idiots. Everyone else would have blocked your number years ago. I never gave up like EVERYONE else did. Don't threaten me with a good time. I'll head right over there and talk to you face to face! I know what my time and effort is worth." So now he's kind of threatening, and I would not put it past this guy to actually show up at my house and start some trouble because of his Shawty work from his Shawty employees with their shitty work. A boss like that no wonder my shit leaks! Do not use this company For anything I wouldn't even have this guy come and dig a hole for me in the dirt! Run don't walk from this company. 1st choice construction advertises on thier web page as being "A+" rating with the BBB, they are not a credited business and have a "C"rating. They are horrible with communication!!! Shay Baker came out 6/19/25 and convinced me I don't need a new roof( my roof is over 25 years old)"it just needs some minor repairs on roof, and chimney along with new skylights" he said, to the price tag of over 8000.00. I would need to put 4000.00 down. We did transaction on credit card, upon leaving he said it would be a month or so and we will reach out to you to start work. We had uneasy feeling with transaction and decided Friday to cancel contract. We emailed Shay on Saturday 6/21/25 our decision to rescind our agreement. State law gives you 3 days to rescind contract. We then sent certified letter with return receipt on Monday 6/23/25 and another email that sends us verification that he opened it, telling him our decision to cancel contract and get a refund of 4000.00. Since we had no contact from Shay Dee we contacted credit card company and they were able to reverse the charges and cancel the card. One month later 7\28\2025 Shays partner called to say he will be out the next day to start work, obvously Shay didnt communicate we had canceled, we told him NO we canceled the work a month ago. Chep then called the next day to refund the money, we told him we already canceled the card payment last month. Shay does not communicate with his clients or his work team, very unproffessional and we are thankful that we realized it before it was too late. Look at their other comments they have recieved and make your decision carefully. Some people say they come in with a bid to fix things and the price only ends up going up. !st Choice replaced my roof 5 years ago (2020) and gave me a 10 Year Warranty. So in March 2025 when I saw a part of my roof peeling back, I called Shay Barber at 1st Choice to come and survey and evaluate my damage. Shay stated it would not be covered under 10 Year Warranty. He quoted an estimate of approx. $7100. Got an initial invoice for $7100, then received another invoice for $11,000 and the final invoice was $12,825. He did the extra work after the inovice of $7100 and did not get my approval. It is my assumption that he found something was done wrong on the initial installation and tried to cover it up and then bill me for the additional work. When I asked and begged him for documentation, pictures and video of my roof damage, he WOULD never supply. And when I tried to work with his Project Manager, they tag teamed and would jack me around saying they were going to send, or had already sent. His invoice stated the balance was due 4/24/25, I paid him in full the $12,828.45 on 04/07/25, but he still would not supply me with documentation of my roof damage. After many requests and many formal emails requesting this documentation he completely ignored me and then started hanging up on me when I called. This is an extremely unprofessional roofing company. There work is poorly done, and then they don't honor their 10 Year Warranty! I strongly suggest not ever using this company!!!!! They are scammer and rip offs! I am going to attempt taking Shay Barber and 1st Choice HOme Construction to small claims court for the $12,825.00 that I paid him.. I informed him I was going to take him to small claims court and he still wouldn't supply documentation so I could try to recoup some of my loss from my HOmeowner's INsurance. OF course, the Homeowner's Insurance would not even consider the claim WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION! AND, I can only assume since Shay would not provide me ANY DOCUMENTATION is that, when he evaluated my roof damage he saw that his original work was faulty, and he wanted to cover up the evidence, AND THEN STILL CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIRS! HE DOES NOT HONOR HIS 10 YEAR WARRANTY! The other suspicous behavior was that before the Homeowner's Insurance could come out to inspect the damage, he had his crew do extensive repairs...... It is my strong opinion that he did the repairs before the insurance could inspect the damage, so he could cover up the faulty work his company had done on the intitial roof installation five years ago. I am an elderly woman in a very low income bracket, and Shay came across like he could jack me around, overcharge me, and not honor his warranty, because he knew I probably wouldn't have the funds to hire an attorney when he scammed me and ripped me off! I am still going to try small claims court! After this experience with this roofing company I am actually VERY SURPRISED Shay Barber is still in business. After reading many reviews, now, about 1st Choice and Shay Barber and after my experience with Shay and his Project Manager, I see similar behavior being stated. Doing work without approval and then over charging, stating a family member was terminally ill as the reason for not sending documentation request, the Project Manager and Shay tag teaming the client trying to confuse and avoid the client, so they could conitnue their scams and rip off games. We are very happy with the results on the repairs on our roof and soffits. The outcome far exceeded out expectations. The crew, Alex and Manny, were very knowledgeable and professional. And both were hard workers and friendly. We had 60 year old soffits that needed replacement. 1st Choice was having difficulty finding soffits that would replace the damaged ones. So the crew milled the replacement pieces needed and matched them up perfectly!!! The repair on the roof where the roof lines of the home and garage meet, was beautiful!! Far exceeded what we thought was going to be done. The crew cleaned up every day and no debris was left. The only downside was the 2 month wait for the job to start. But this company is worth the wait! They also found a leak that has been plaguing us for 15 years. Other roofers and contractors couldn't find it. But 1st Choice did and repaired it!!! Hired company to repair roof in February 2022. After we were informed repairs were completed, leaks were worse than before repairs were done. Contacted company to come out to assess for leak problem. Owner Shea was scheduled to inspect for additional repairs during the week of 2/28/22 and we were told there would be no additional charges. No one showed up even though we were contacted about remaining account balance & collection. On 5/9/22 a company rep showed up & lied about talking to my husband about an appointment today. My husband had not talked to First Choice about an appointment. When I asked him to leave, worker became belligerent and said "we were going to be sent to collections ". DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. If I could give 0 rating I would. We will need to research again to find a qualified & legitimate repair company. This company should be renamed LAST Choice Home Construction. Update: owner is Shea Barber. We had work done in February 2022 but scheduled the appointment for this work in November 2021. My husband contacted the owner by phone today & was given the name Marvin Smith. "Owner", whoever that is, responded to Google review. Response was apology. Wow. Avoid this company if you don't want to be scammed. Shay came out in response to my request for an estimate to correct a very small skylight leak. While there he told me he saw other things on my roof that should be fixed and offered to give me an estimate for everything. I agreed to that but specifically said to break out each item on the estimate so I could choose which if any items I wanted him to address. While on the roof, and without any notice to me, much less my consent, he nailed in a few pieces of material by the skylight at issue. When he came down off the roof he showed me an estimate for over 9K to fix a number of things he claimed needed fixing, but without the breakdown I requested. He proposed to do all that work (which was very vague and didn't itemize specific items to be fixed but just categories of fixing and general categories of materials. He proposed to give me a "$1500 credit" which is what he said he would be charging me for the "temporary repair" he did on the roof without my knowledge while up there estimating. I have no idea if what he did was at all effective or might have even damaged my roof. I went up later to look at it and all it was just a few pieces of material nailed near the skylight. $1500 was a joke to be asking for that work even if authorized. I had received a previous quote to have a day's worth of work done, taking off materials adjacent to the skylight and putting down new materials for $1500. When Shay told me he was charging me $1500 for what could only be a few minutes of work that I did not authorize, I refused to pay it. He literally started screaming at me, telling me I didn't appreciate the dangerous work roofers do, and stormed out of my house. He then called me, claiming to have left a tool on the roof (which he had not) and asking me to pay for materials. When I asked him how much, he said they had a "minimum fee" for materials of over $300. He also said he had "found" the allegedly lost tool in his truck. He then sent me a text, admitting that there was at least a "misunderstanding," blaming his behavior on a loss in the family and asking me to pay for materials to placate his boss. He pulled back that text later. I filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office and Shay responded to the complaint with transparent lies, claiming repeatedly that he had done work only with my consent. I never like putting in negative feedback because of the time that is wasted. This experience made me finally sign up for Yelp (that's how bad it was). I am still shaking on how I was treated. Called on 3/20/2018 to have water removed from a sky light and have it fixed. Was quoted $450 to have the sky light repaired. Shay (I think was his name) arrived with a new hire guy that he was training. Was nice at first. Led them to the back of the house to give them access to the roof. Went inside because I was watching my two year old daughter with me and could not be outside to watch them fix the issue. They were up there for less than 30 minutes. I asked why there was still water in between the panes of glass. Said that it would evaporate (I don't know how that works, but whatever). Then a dared to ask if the simple re-caulking fix would still be $450. He said yes, it is the standard roof repair fix. Stripping old caulking and adding new caulking = $450. He decided to get upset because I told him that the price was outrageous and he didn't even remove the water in between the panes. I was told that he had never been so disrespected in his life before. He said that I never mentioned removing water from the sky light. Which I specifically did over the phone. Why else would I call? He was venting and yelling his frustration outside my house and causing a scene in front of the neighbors. Getting real close to my personal space I had the feeling of him intimidating me (he is over 6 feet tall, me 5' 7"). After a few minutes he decided to leave. Less than 3 minutes later he drove back to my cul de sac. He parked two houses down and came to my open garage to now threaten me with putting a lien on the house. I told him I would pay, but not $450 for caulking. The threats continued and was again beginning to raise his voice, yell, and use his hands in exaggerated manner to show that he was not to be messed with. Really bad customer service and etiquette. He kept trying to tell me that he wasn't to be messed with. One thing he said was "Homie don't play that." Also: "I knew from the time I arrived that you weren't going to pay," what does that mean? Because I'm Hispanic he assumed I was poor or some other stereotypical thing. By this time my two older sons arrived home from school being dropped off by my sister in law (I couldn't pick them up because I wanted to be at home for the repair). I asked him to lower his tone in the presence of my boys. He finally did, but not happily. He said that he would take $250 and wouldn't put a lien on the house. At this point I had enough of him being there and decided to give into the threats because I know nothing on how liens work. Went inside to write a check so I could get him the hell out of there. After giving him the check he told me that he doesn't want to here from me ever again or he will put a lien on the house (didn't receive a receipt). I can't confirm what he did to the skylight (I have cut on my foot that wont allow me to do any kind of weight bearing work). So, if the skylight got worse or I had questions regarding the guarantee he would automatically put a lien. He didn't say anything about me not being able to post to Yelp. Some of his actions were captured on my home security cameras. At one point when I went inside he noticed one of the cameras and changed his demeanor. I wouldn't waste my time writing this if I didn't feel that others need to be warned of the low quality of work and a despicable bed side manner. I served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years and hold others to a high standard of discipline, respect, and integrity. None of those values were exemplified by this company. The worst part is that I can't complain to anyone at this company because he is co-owner, no one above to help me. Again, if you want someone to come out and place $450 caulking on a sky light then this is the company you are looking for. I was referred by Angie's list. Shay Barber of First Choice Construction came out the same day. I had a roof leak and water damage in my master bedroom. I've never had anything like this happen to my home before and I was completely overwhelmed with the situation. Shay took the time to explain to me what my rights were with my insurance company and empowered me to wrest control of the rehabilitation of my home back into my hands. I felt as if I should have paid him at least $500 just for the valuable information that he gave me. He also secured my roof from further damage as he did not want my husband or myself to go up on the roof and have to do it ourselves. I did not ask him to do this, he offered to do this at NO CHARGE!!! He also made sure that the property was secured on the outside and inside before leaving my home. I had not signed anything and he wasn't acting as if he was getting the job. What he was doing was acting like a caring Contractor who also happens to be a very kind and caring individual. I don't even have a bid yet from Shay Barber of First Choice Construction, but I plan on hiring him, whatever the cost, as he's already earned my trust! I already had two contractors come out and give me bids and each contractor had assumed that they would automatically get the job even though I had not indicated that I would hire them. One Contractor required $500 upfront just to give me a bid! The other one still has not sent me a bid even though I have requested a quote 4 times. read more

I wish there was a lower rating. 'Nick' promises to stand by their work. When you have an issue, they will not address it, and deny it has anything to do with the work they did on your home. I had a very, very poor experience working with 1st Choice Home Construction with an attempt to fix a small area of a leaky roof. When Shay first called me due to my Porch request, he was very friendly. I was looking forward to an easy, honest, straight-forward process. We made an appointment for about a week down the road. I ended up working from home on the day of the appointment (Monday) so that the work could be completed. Monday morning Shay called stating that he wasn't feeling well and would need to reschedule for the following day (Tuesday). I know that this certainly does happen, but it was just the beginning of a poor situation. Because I couldn't work from home again on Tuesday, my girlfriend stayed home for the work to be completed. He showed up with another worker around 11:30am. He explained what he was going to do and spent just under an hour completing the work (leaving at 12:30pm). Now, my girlfriend never asked for an estimate which she probably, in hindsight, should have, but Shay never offered one and just started working. After the just under an hour, my girlfriend was presented with a bill for nearly $800, of which $450 was labor. Two guys, 1 hour, $450. Just let that sink in. Also, payment right then at the end of the service was demanded. Having worked with other contractors in the past, this is somewhat unorthodox as bills are usually mailed. I now understand why he requires money right away. Now, when I got home, I asked my girlfriend what they actually did. To make the explanation shorter, they more or less put a small area of bladder under the shingles in an area right near the bottom edge of the roof, near the gutter. I thought this funny as my admittedly rather moderate home repair knowledge would tell me that the water from the leak further up the roof couldn't have run UP the roof because, you know, gravity. I figured that perhaps they knew something I didn't and decided that, while the bill was highway robbery, if it fixed the problem we'd swallow the bitter pill. Less than a week later, after a rain, it became clear that problem was not fixed. In fact, it was now somewhat worse. I contacted Shay to explain the issue. He told me that there was no guarantee. I mentioned that he had charged us what is roughly $225 per man/hour for a fix that did nothing to solve the problem. Shay offered to come do a very large-scale, whole-roof repair for about $3000 and apply the labor cost from the first repair to the second, larger repair. Considering that he had already vastly overcharged us for a repair and hadn't actually accomplished anything and that our roof is relatively new, I called another company that actually specialized in roof repairs. Upon their inspection of the roof area, the new company mentioned that the previous work had actually split a shingle making the leak worse. They also mentioned that the larger repair Shay had mentioned could be done by them for considerably less (even if you take out the labor charge from the first repair, as Shay would have done). They also mentioned that they could fix just the leak, which they then did. I attempted to work with Shay to obtain some kind of even partial refund. I was told that there were no guarantees and thus no refunds. Porch was also very much less than helpful despite their guarantee. However, Nicole, the Porch representative, was polite and prompt despite not offering anything substantial for a terrible, frustrating experience. I've never written a bad review like this in my life, but I've also never had such a bad experience. My girlfriend and I are out nearly $800 and all the hours we've spent trying to rectify this situation. All we got for it was a roof that was worse than it was to begin with and not a penny of refund from 1st Choice Home Construction or Porch. In the future, I will simply roll the dice on selecting a contractor on my own. Going through Porch clearly offers no advantage and whoever you go with will presumably be less expensive. Anyways, I have concentrated this story very much, as the whole thing would take too long to outline here. Please take my word for it and avoid this company. read more

Hired to repair leaking torch down flat section of roof which has had several leaks over the years. Old torch down was very uneven which caused lots of pools to form and water to seep under fascia boards. Shay's crew ripped out all of the old torch down, added spacers to level off the roof and put down PVC membrane. Also added new gutters as well. So far so good! No signs of leaks and the roof is much more level and drains more efficiently! I am very satisfied with the work! His crew was very un-intrusive, in fact I hardly ever saw them and I don't think I ever had to talk to them after the initial inspection. Shay himself was also very helpful and provided a few extra on the spot inspections around my roof and yard at no extra cost! Only negative comments are minor ones. Scope of work expanded after the work began which raised costs, but they issues were fairly understandable, material costs seemed a little high, and they did not haul away all of the debris afterwards. read more

Shay and Alex came out to our house in Edmonds to help us draft a quote for repairing many small things that were preventing our house from getting sold. The quote was fair and the work they can do is very comprehensive. In fact, they were able to fix things on our roof at half the cost of the person that put the actual roof on! We did not hire them (not related to cost or service - home buyer had their own contractor), but thanks to the excellent experience with Shay, Alex and Melissa, I will definitely engage them for our next project. I had Shay out Tuesday (3/20/18) to give me a quote and I figured out pretty quickly that he was a little shifty to say the least. His numbers were all over the board and he wanted to reuse some of the fence material that I showed and he could see were rotting yet he wanted using his words, "around $6000.00 for material" for 100' of fencing. Needless to say much of the discussion went the same way about the other projects I needed done, a whole lot of talk and not much substance. I have never written a negative review, however I was treated so poorly by Shay that I need to warn consumers about this company. I called this company in the early summer as I wanted to get the problem fixed prior to the rainy season. I live in Seattle and I have a flat room and one area of my home leaks when it rains. He staid he would be the one coming to my home, however that didn't happen. He sent out a new and inexperienced employee. He worked on my roof for about an hour and he said he needed to come back as he needed a special type of caulk which he didn't have and needed to have the owner get it. It appeared to be a Home Depot product as he left the gun and caulk tube here. It took him about an hour and a half to write up the paperwork and he didn't know if they accepted credit cards or if the work was guaranteed. He wasn't able to find out if I could use my CC so I wrote a check. It was nearly $1100 so I would have preferred to use my card. He said he would contact me regarding a time for him to come back which never happened. I called Shay who made excuses for him since he was new and said he didn't know anything about him needing to get caulk for my roof or about returning to complete the job. I also asked Shay if the work was guaranteed and he said it absolutely was. The employee eventually returned to fix it, he was here for about 10 minutes and charged me over $100. He said it was because he had to drive from Marysville and the customer needs to pay for the gas. I was astounded at how unprofessional this was. As of now, the leak continues. I contacted Shay about 3 weeks ago. He didn't know who I was and couldn't look at the invoice since he does not keep them. He was incredible defensive and confrontational with me and said there is no guarantee, even though he told me the work is guaranteed. He didn't seem to want to send anyone out since they were too busy and that I need to cut them some slack since the person they sent out was inexperienced. He eventually agreed to send someone more experienced out and wanted to see the invoice if the work that was done since he didn't remember anything about the job. (He said they have done lots of jobs since mine and I couldn't expect him to recall my situation even though we spoke after the employee left so I could ask about credit cards, if there was a guarantee, and I told him about my experience with the employee. He made excuses for him because he was not trained and was new.) After my last conversation with Shay three weeks ago, I immediately sent him pics of the invoice (again, he doesn't keep them) After much conversation and his lack of accountability and his total defensiveness, he agreed to send someone out. He wanted to blame me for everything that happened. As of now, there has been no attempt by Shay to contact me, even though I reached out to him with a text asking if he received the copy of the 2 invoices I sent 3 weeks ago; again with no response from Shay. I would leave no stars if I had the option. This is absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. I am 64 and am not new at needing to hire contractors which makes this review even more credible. read more

Very unprofessional. To make this short: he came in smelling like body odor, sounded condescending, didn't wear boot covers and left dirt all over my floors. I was asking for some electrical work to be and was quoted some outrageous prices. He was not happy when I questioned his pricing or methods. My skylight started leaking when heavy rain hit the area. Most places that I called could not fix my skylight right away due to being over booked but 1st Construction were able to come the next day which was a huge relief because I did not want any more leaks in my house. Nick and Dan did an amazing job. Nick was very communicative and explained to me what needed to be fixed. He sent me pictures and explained everything in detail which was very nice because I do not understand much in construction. Dan did a very nice job and is an expert. 1st construction is a small company but provides you with a 10 year warranty which is definitely a bonus. I totally recommend 1st construction. I called 1st Choice on Monday about a leaky roof, and it was repaired by Tuesday! I was impressed at how quickly they were able to get out there and fix it, and right before a huge storm, too. When I called on Monday to see if I could get an estimate for my leaky roof, my call was immediately answered by Shay, who gave me a rough estimate for fixing it ($500) - which could be applied to a new roof, and that the work would be guaranteed. He was very friendly, and it was nice to talk to someone immediately. To my surprise, he said someone could be out to fix it the next day around 10am - which was a relief as there was a big storm coming up, and I seemed to have leaks in multiple areas due to a tree falling on our house a few years ago, and the previous company who'd fixed the roof didn't seem to have actually fixed it, as the leaks were in the area they'd worked on. Nick showed up exactly at 10am. He looked over everything, took lots of photos, even went into my attic to really see what was going on. When he came back, he showed me all the photos, explained what was going on, clearly and thoroughly explained all my options on how much I wanted to do to fix it (we know we need to replace the roof, but we'd just gotten a heat pump so can't afford a new one just yet - so this was more just smaller solutions until it could be replaced). Nick was incredibly friendly, and really seemed to be passionate about his work and getting the roof leak free. I decided to have him do multiple things so we wouldn't have to worry about leaks for a while, including replacing the flashing around our skylight - which we'd been previously told was too thin (like aluminum foil thin) and needed replacing (Nick agreed), and also repairing a hole by the skylight, and fixing the area around the chimney which had been previously improperly installed (by another company before we bought the house) and was letting in water. In addition, he said he'd go through and re-caulk any nails that had been improperly placed, clean out the gutters, and manually scrape the moss off the roof (I didn't want to use any toxic moss removing chemicals, so I declined that part - we live near a creek). He said he'd do the labor of manually removing the moss for free. All in all, with materials, it ended up being just under $1000. I agreed to the cost up front, before any work began. Nick worked hard the entire day. He kept me posted on his progress, and explained everything he was doing. When he was done, he tested the roof by running water over the leaky spots for a while to see if he had addressed the causes of the leaks. Nick even straightened part of the gutter that had been bent by the tree falling on our roof and was spilling water everywhere. After the water test, he went back up into the attic to check to see if the leaks were indeed fixed. He finished about 6pm. Just as I was signing the invoice, it started pouring rain. So far, I don't see any leaks. I'm really pleased with all Nick's hard work and how friendly, professional, thorough, and informative he was. Update 9/26/2016: I tried to call Shay a couple times recently to get a ceiling vent installed as we'd discussed it when I'd talked to him previously. I had a water leak in my ceiling near a skylight and needed it fixed ASAP. I called multiple companies to get a quote for repair and to get a professional opinion on my roof's health (as it had exceeded its 15 year lifespan). 1st Choice Home Construction was the first company to come onsite and inspect the leak. Shay and Nick showed up. Very friendly guys. As soon as I showed Shay the water leak he described, in detail, the possible reasons for the water leak all having to do with a failed skylight seal/trim/flashing. They inspected my attic fully to locate the source of the leak as well as evaluate the total health of my roof from the attic perspective. After surveying the leak issue from the attic they inspected the outside roof health status. Shay then sat down with me and provided a couple of options for repair. He provided an option to fix the leaking roof and repair the issues that were most critical. He stated this option would give my roof another 5 years of life. He then provided estimated pricing to replace the roof fully. His recommendation was to fix the critical issues now and then revisit the replacement of the roof in 5 years. I agreed. They fixed the water leak right then onsite and then said they would get back to me about the remainder of the roof fixes. Shortly after the repairs were completed I received a call from another Nick (this being the co-owner) of the company. He asked for an email address and emailed me over a quote showing the total price of the work. I approved the quote via their electronic system and paid in full. (They only require, I believe, half upfront). A couple of days later Nick called me up to let me know he was on his way out to fix the other issues they found with the roof. They fixed the issue and have a very satisfied customer on their hands. Very professional company. Very nice guys. No surprises. read more

Thank you 1st Choice, for understanding my last minute roofing emergency! This company made themselves available in the moment I needed someone the most, experiencing immediate leaking which put a third of my home at risk of extensive water damage if left untreated at that moment. Not only did they have someone come out same day to evaluate the damage, but they were also very friendly and professional throughout every interaction. My initial call was placed shortly outside of most anyone's business hours, yet they were more than accommodating to take care of my needs right away. In the end, they came up with a cost-efficient solution and I no longer have to worry! I am now in the process of scheduling them to replace my entire roof in the coming months, and also considering having them handle a few other needed renovations to my home as well. Materials were pre-staged on Thursday, a hard-working and efficient crew did 98% of the work on Friday and Saturday, and some minor work and 100% cleanup were completed on Monday.
