    Guess the gin game!
    Sheetal M.

I love this place! I first came across BTW (Bermondsey Tonic Water) at the Feast of London Festival and being a gin lover, I thought that their tonic water was delicious - goes particularly well with Halfhitch gin. I was taken here on Valentine's Day by my boyfriend as he had remembered that I liked the tonic water and researched to find 214 Bermondsey! It is located at 214 Bermondsey Street (as the name suggests) underneath the Antico Restaurant. It's quite small but cosy downstairs and the decor is quite nice with the open brick work exposed on the walls. As it was Valentine's Day, they were offering a taste test. So for £10, you get 3 different gins to taste with a little card explaining the 3 gins and you have to guess which one is which. You then get a little envelope which you open at the end which tells you the correct answers! My boyfriend and I shared and it was actually quite fun! They have a vast collection of gins but they also offer alternative drinks for those who aren't fond of gin. The prices are reasonable with a single G&T coming in at around £5. And the BTW tonic water is a must have! I would definitely go back there again and recommend it to all the gin lovers out there!!

This place could make a gin drinker out of me! A little difficult to find but that adds to the ambience. Diverse crowd and inventive menu.

Well, they must know what they're doing because their gin drinks are off the chain good! My friend Rolfe and I only got to try the classic Negronis (2 each), and they were perfection. We wanted to try some other drinks, but it was near closing time and they were running short on some of their fresh ingredients... next time for sure! I couldn't find a single thing online giving me any idea on the prices of food or drinks here, so I am letting you know. The presentation of said drinks is superb, and they taste great! There is also a selection of beer and wine and other spirits to choose from. They also have a per-person minimum (at least that is what was indicated on the reservation site and email) that basically requires getting 2 drinks or also ordering overpriced food. BUT all that said...you KNOW it is going to be expensive. You can still be budget conscious here, if you know what you are going in to. And what you are really here for is the view, and you GET IT. You may not get a window seat, but if you are nice and patient, if one opens up they may be able to move you over there. But you will still be able to get close to the windows for views and photos no matter where you are seated. It seems to be a requirement that all servers be non-native English speakers who are unusually attractive and must wear pants so tight you wonder how they are able to walk in them. I'm not complaining though! It was the smallest and most expensive restaurant experience of our London trip. But it was also one of the most memorable and most fun. I would absolutely recommend a visit, especially around sunset.

During one of the recent warm (!) days in London, my fianceé and I decided to grab a drink before heading home to make dinner. We usually head further up Bermondsey street before ducking in for a cocktail, but neither of us had the energy to try to flag down bartenders, or spend the evening in a crowd apologising for stepping on toes and awkward elbows. I was pleasantly surprised to see space (hurray!) in Hide Bar that Friday, so we headed in. In 2 minutes we had seats at the bar. 5 minutes later we had delicious cocktails and an order of calamari on the way. Prices were very fair for the neighborhood, and the service was excellent. It's a very cute place for drinks before dinner, and also seemed like it would be good for a group of coworkers (they have what looks like private space in the back). I will definitely be back again. There is no terrace and it's a bit dark, so perhaps not the first choice as the weather gets warmer, but absolutely my new go to when the weather is poor.

The same applies here and I sampled the burger and chips which was very tasty and for around £5, I couldn't have asked for better. The bar staff are also friendly and definitely have their work cut out! I wouldn't really come here for a nice evening drink but it is fine as a stop point or if you are strapped for cash and need a good meal!
