It's a beautiful building. I would highly recommend just coming and looking at the architecture. The employees aren't very helpful. I came once for a parking ticket and four different employees gave me four different answers on where I needed to go. I had a letter with their address and they were all still confused. After an hour I finally got to the right room for what I needed. I don't blame the employees but I do feel like they need better training.

I'm glad that despite the venue, they still made it an intimate experience.

Haha, umm. Well, I'm not sure than anyone enjoys jury duty but I also got married here so there's some sentimental value that increased my rating. Regarding the wedding: Despite the venue, it still felt very intimate. I'm grateful that in addition to our two witnesses, we were able to bring an additional friend to snap a few pictures. Jury Duty: That being said, in my experience, everything was well-organized, ran smoothly, and our judge, while professional, was also very caring-- acknowledging that the trial we were being selected for was going to be difficult to sit through (murder 1 + domestic violence). The questions we were asked centered around extremely vulnerable topics and we were given the opportunity to approach the bench and answer to the judge, prosecutor, and defense attorney if we were not comfortable answering in front of everyone. Ultimately, I was grateful to not be selected for this jury, and I'm grateful for how jury selection was conducted.

The civil court process is never really a pleasant experience; yet very necessary to resolve personal issues that are typically a pain in the ass and complete waste of valuable time. I won my case fair and square so I applaud the judge's fairness. The Sheriff's could be more pleasant at the entrance and so could the clerk inside the actual court room. But I guess when you deal with shit all day your attitude can be pretty shitty.

The ambiance of the waiting area is not plush, but you don't need to worry about the decor, you will not be there long. The most important thing to remember about Jury Duty, is to listen. The staff moves things along, very quickly and if they have to repeat themselves, that is when they get gruff. Otherwise, it is rather painless. I brought magazines and both of my iPads, in preparation of a long wait. My start day was Wednesday, not the typical Monday so the selection pool wasn't as large. My number was called in the second group, so no time to play on iPad or read any magazine articles, because once you are in the courtroom all those items are taboo. Once the Voir dire (jury selection) starts, that is when the real entertainment begins. My jury pool was 48 city residents and each and every one of them had some type of story. Some had more then one story, to share with the judge and lawyer. The selection process took close to a full 7 hours. During that time we did get a lunch break, of just over an hour. However, it made for a long day 8 AM - 5:30 PM. I've served on one criminal, two civil (one as foreman) and one grand jury. I guess I had too much experience, because this time I was not selected to serve.

The Old Courthouse is one of the landmarks that stands immediately adjacent to the Gateway Arch. The St. Louis Old Courthouse is part of the Gateway Arch National Park. It was originally built between 1839 and 1862. The Old Courthouse replaced a smaller First Courthouse. It's theme is a Greek Revival style with a central rotunda. There are several landmark cases that occurred in the St. Louis Old Courthouse. The building is stunning with the Doric columns, the facades, and how the layout is centered around a large rotunda. The Old Courthouse has undergone renovation in the recent years, including upgrades with elevators and ramps, climate control, restored courtrooms and some new exhibit galleries! You can visit and tour the rotunda, restored courtrooms, and history exhibit galleries. If you're visiting the Gateway Arch, I recommend stopping by the St. Louis Old Courthouse. The courthouse is significant for 2 of the nation's most significant legal cases; the Dred Scott case and the Virginia Minor case. The Dred Scott case, which began in 1846, included trials in 1847 and 1850 at the Old Courthouse. The case was ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1857, ruling against the Scotts and stating that they did not have the right to sue as citizens. The Virginia Minor case, regarding a woman's right to vote, was tried in the 1870s at the Old Courthouse. We were able to walk inside the courthouse, sit behind the judges desk & read about the cases. There was a lot of interesting information to read & videos to watch.
