Although price is comparable to Steve Nash, I am now going to AF Richmond because it is transit friendly (by Aberdeen Station), & they don't have pushy sales people. The gym is brand spanking new, so they have modern and new equipment. They have a good range of cardio and strengthening equipment. They even have a punching bag to take out your frustrations on! That's exciting for me. Plus, you can watch a show of your choice as you're on the cardio machines. If you dread going to the gym like I do, this is a big deal. They're open all the time, with staff on site during mall hours. Otherwise, you work out at any time with your special access fob. The gym has towel service and three individual bathrooms (1 washroom and 2 showers). There's not that many people at this point (or at least when I go in the evening), so you won't have to hang too closely with other sweaty peeps like yourself. Facility seems to be environmentally friendly with water bottle fountains and automatic lights in the bathroom. Maybe the lights are environmentally friendly too? At least, I hope so. The only downside is they don't have that many group classes. Zumba, martial arts and some other class. I hope they add more classes soon. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my membership, mostly because it is more accessible to me=I can go there more often. I pay about $45/month, which is okay. At least I actually use this membership because of above reason. Plus, the franchise owners are approachable and helpful. Always a good way to start!

The trainers get new benches and are not willing to share. They take many of the weights, straps, kettlebells and keep them for hours on end. When you ask to use the bench which might sit empty for half an hour while they train ... they just say "my" bench. There also seems to be a stash of water bought for the trainers to give to the gym clients. Not fair if you are spending our money for this water. Do we buy the bananas also? What is new for us at the gym this past payment we all made. Finally, there must be some cleaning done weekly to all of the equipment .. some of the machines stink badly from sweat. You have plenty of staff around in the day time hours but we hardly see any of them out cleaning, Time for some hot soapy water and a good wash down of the handles, seats, etc and not just with tiny handy wipes.

The past few years however they have been putting this money towards personal training areas and equipment that regular gym goers only have access to when trainers are not using which isn't often. The gym has three incline benches and one other in the personal training area. There is always a wait for these the past few months two more personal training areas have popped up one taking a cable machine and both taking incline benches which aren't used much during these training sessions which is frustrating to see now that there's only one incline bench left for the whole gym to use. With all this in mind the gym has also become overcrowded if you come between 3-7pm expect to wait to use equipment. Hopefully this gym finds a solution I have begun to look elsewhere. I highly recommend finding another gym unless you are looking for a personal trainer as it seems this small gym is pivoting to cater to PT clients and not the members who have been there for years.

I was advised they would charge me $20.00, though I could get in free if I go with my husband or tenant, I just wanted to work out earlier and didn't want to wait for either. I asked them what the monthly membership fee was, they replied, it's $15.00 a month to utilize 1 location. I then said, I know two people who already have memberships already who live in the same household, I just want to try out the gym as I was thinking about purchasing my own membership however, you still want to charge me $20? teply "yes" I understand they need to charge a drop in fee, I think I would treat every situation a bit different depending on circumstance. If I cannot prove Vy on my drivers license, that two other members of the gym lived in my household, I can understand that reply since there are people who will lie about things like that. The room for boxing classes is very dimly lit and there's loud music playing on top, similar to Rumble. They do offer earplugs outside but it can be an overstimulating experience if you're sensitive to that. At the time I had booked my classes, they offered 2 free trial classes but it seems like they no longer do that. However, you can still have a consultation session for free. My complaint is that for the boxing classes, you do have to rent the gloves unless you have your own (I have my own hand wraps so I'm not sure if you'd have to buy that as well). For such a high-end place, I would've expected that to be included in the booking.
