Was recommended this studio by a friend who lives locally and dropped into MVMNT for a quick early…read moremorning class while in town. We stayed in Downtown Alexandria and the gym was around 15 mins away (walking). Such a great cute little women's studio. We did the Bosu class and it kicked our butts. The instructor made sure we had the right form and led a fast paced high intensity class. Would definitely recommend! Please note - there's only one bathroom for the studio which includes a shower.

This was such a loaded experience. As someone who frequents many small studios like this in various…read moreparts of the DMV, especially the V, I definitely have my likes and dislikes. Likes: Anna-Maria, the instructor, was very sweet. She was warm and welcoming, very encouraging throughout the workout, and had an interesting playlist. It was also a pretty good workout with the core/upper body sections being better than others. Format: Surge Strength. It was very much a "lift to the music" while bringing in cardio elements workout. I like having music blaring but being on beat (or striving to be) annoys me because you're pressured to break form and not move meaningfully. I probably looked crazy, but I was seconds behind the other people in class because I wanted to actually lift, not swing my arms around. Also, some of the moves (mostly lower body), when moving that quickly, just don't target the areas I want to strengthen meaningfully. For some moves, I'd opt for slower, more controlled, classic moves so I could get it right. We were using "light to heavy" dumbbells - I think the highest is 15 pounds. Also, the "stop, grab your mat, unfold, and do floor work for a couple minutes" thing was kind of disorienting at times. Facilities/equipment: this is my second biggest gripe. While it looked mostly visibly clean, the floors were dirty AF, covered in stringy hairs. Ew. During the floor sections, I could see hair and other debris on the floor and it would even get on me if any part of me even slightly came off the mat, or hairs would be hanging from my weights when I picked them up.yuckkk. Also, the mats were funky. Very clear that they rely on folks doing the one-wipe swipe after sweaty workouts for cleaning and that's gross. They don't have a water cooler or even a cool Flow Water station or anything - they have two water fountains that are relatively low pressure. And they're connected, so only one works at a time. And they looked a little dusty. Vibe: It's a no for me, dawg. Outside of Anna-Maria, there was like NO diversity in the room (maybe one Asian woman in the front) which feels VERY WEIRD when the playlist is VERY Black with a little Brown sprinkled in. On top of that, the women in there were stuck up and some were, frankly, obnoxious. I got multiple stares (Yes, I'm Black! OMG lol) and when I was attempting to fill my water at the ratchet fountain, before I knew they were connected, this one white studio member, in such a condescending way, was like, "hi, yeah, they're actually connected, so..." Girl, bye. Oh, that brings me to another point: It was my first time at that location. I checked in and received no orientation/guidance from the girl at the front desk. I ended up entering the studio room and, thankfully, Anna-Maria was able to help me get set up. I think the girl at the front desk heard me receiving instructions and ran in just as the workout was about to start and apologized for not introducing me to things. But it was very much an afterthought and if I was someone who was super anxious or thrown off by stuff like that, I would've left. Oh, and it's def the type of place where the same people show up for the same classes (or multiple) regularly. To be honest, I disliked the vibe so much initially, I considered leaving like five minutes into the workout. But a player has goals, so I stayed. It seemed pretty clear who this space is intended for. And I've pretty much NEVER felt that way before, even when working out in tiny studios in places like Del Ray and Loudoun. I was less uncomfy towards the end, but initial impression plus hair: ew. You'll get a cute workout in but this vibe? Not for me.

However, with my 1+ hour commute after work, even trying to get there early is difficult. My friend has the same issue and was not even a minute late, maybe 30 seconds, and they denied her entry to the class and charged extra for not taking the class. there really is no grace here.

I…read morewas going about 3 times a week until my first month ran out and then I purchased the 3 month baby-on-board package. They also have 3 month Bride to Be and new mommy packages. The instructors are all SUPER friendly and helpful from the very start. My favorites are Katie (she's an owner), Carly, Brandy and Jamie. My aunt was the one who suggested Pure Barre to me because she said there were a few pregnant women in her Philly class. I chose to do this over prenatal yoga since I felt like it was a better variety. All the exercises are low impact (with a few pregnancy modifications) and a great muscular workout. I disgaree with a previous reviewer who said it was all repetitive because in the 2 months I've been there they've switched the routine 3 times. The exercises focus on small movements but trust me when I saw that they really really burn! I do cardio other times during the week on my own so I like that I get a good mix of muscle and toning work at Pure Barre. Lift, tone and burn are the motto here and I feel all of that every single time I go! I'm sure some of the complaints about sold out classes are for the night time classes (I usually go in the morning) because I rarely have any problems signing up for the classes I want. Katie told me that they are also opening up a new location in Clarendon which should help some of the volume of Arlington attendants. I HIGHLY recommend that you give Pure Barre a try, you definitely won't regret it!

I think this review is way too long overdue and I have to do one now after taking classes here…read moresince August of 2018. I'm giving 4 stars because they don't provide towels in class to wipe your sweat off lo, there's no showers here, and only one studio. The classes fill up quick because there's only one studio so you have to book in advance or go on the waitlist especially for popular classes and weekend classes. But they have 2 bathrooms, a water fountain, a dressing room, and a few stools to sit on. I used to go to barre studios in Clarendon which started to become difficult due to parking. This is when I realized that I need to find another barre studio to go to with available parking nearby because I like working out right after work and I have my car with me. I found Pure Barre Pentagon City (PBPC for this review). There are street parking available but they are not free. There is also the Whole Foods parking garage you can use. Then the metro is there too which is about 3 blocks walk. It's right next to Whole Foods for reference. I started doing the trial and soon moved into me purchasing a 12-month unlimited membership. It escalated quickly like that. There are a couple of classes offered. Normal schedule classes Classic - regular 50 mins class Empower - more cardio-centered as it includes HIIT exercises. You use wrist/ankle weights, free weights (about 2-5 lbs), and a platform. This is a very challenging class and great if you are trying to lose weight. Reform - this is the new class and uses stretch bands attached to the walls and sliders. Special classes Intensive classes - pretty self explanatory Foundations class - classes that focuses on perfecting your movements so that you can get the full caloric burn during class I have tried all of the normal schedule classes and let me tell you, it doesn't get easier every time I do it. Not all teachers have the same playlist and movements so you won't get bored. I usually take the classic regularly and Empower about 1-2 times per week. I just took Reform for the first time yesterday and I am so sore. I thought I was going to die during Empower or Reform but I live every time so it's not that bad. Plus you feel great right after for accomplishing something difficult! They do student discounts so inquire with the manager if you are interested. I personally like my membership because it's unlimited. Yes, it's very expensive but I see this as an investment to myself and my health so it's worth it for me. I love my teachers, my personal favorites are Haley (she challenges me a lot in my classes), Tina (she usually teaches the 6pm class that I always take), and Alex. But I love all the teachers, they are all very helpful and challenges you during workout. And they know my name which I love and I feel super welcomed every time I come and leave. My favorite is when they praise you in class and you're just like YES!!! Since August (3 months in), I have noticed that I have gotten a lot stronger. I have gotten better at spinning class too because I have more stamina to cycle - all thanks to Pure Barre. I spin and do barre for my workout because I just think the gym is boring. I did the 20 out of 30 days September challenge and wow I was so proud of myself. I went like 12 days straight working out at barre and they do fun challenges to push yourself! I love that about PBPC. Everyone that I work out with seems like they love the place! The milestones you get are 100 classes, 250, and 500 classes. I hope to get my first milestone next year! Items you need: leggings, workout shirt, grippy socks and motivation to be your best self :) Come lift, tone, and burn with me if you are interested!
