Always loved going here--until last night. Our group of 16 was told we had to pay $20 per person just to enter. I can understand a reasonable cover charge, but $20 each is excessive. To make it worse, people before us and after us walked right in without paying anything. It felt like we were singled out because we were the "older group," which was embarrassing and disappointing. Went there (10/2/25 4PM) to have a drink with my boyfriend and was greeted with ABSOLUTELY NO service. Sat outside and never saw anyone. We were the only ones there (I can tell why now). Finally someone emerged from the back and clearly saw us but still never said hello or asked what we wanted to drink. I decided to leave due to lack of no menu and very appalling staff service. As my boyfriend and I were walking out the woman staff member yelled back us to...and I very surprisingly quote...."grow up and that it will be alright." Mind you I was having a totally unrelated discussion with my boyfriend. Very sad to see that type of behavior from a grown woman. It was disgusting how she thought she could talk to me like that. I cannot even give this place one star we were there to celebrate a friend who passed away and the bartender was screaming. The F word at us to get out because she has a full-time job and we're being disrespectful. However, we didn't know what time they closed we don't know what she does for a second job nobody was being rude, and she was yelling, screaming, swearing at all of us I have never in my life seen the like of it. A great spot for after the game drinks and a fabulous rooftop with bar. We walked up the interior steps into the top bar space, then out onto the rooftop. They have a big tub of ice with complimentary bottles of water. Nice. We went back inside for wine, then found a table outside. Lots of tables both in and out. Happy hour prices. read more

This is a good place with a great location! I tried when it was still relatively new. The ordering and payment is done completely on your smartphone. It is pretty slick. I did the bacon BBQ with chicken. It was pretty good overall. The sandwich was a bit messy as you'd expect. The flavors were well done. My fries were super salty, to the point I had to tap each one on my tray before eating. That was my main complaint. My friend had the tenderloin and I was supremely jealous I didn't order it. She agreed about the salty fries. The service was minimal of course, but the guy that checked on us was friendly a d cared about our thoughts. 08/21/21 about 11:30-midnight.. my first time here and the inside bartenders were phenomenal! Very sociable, nice and attentive. The outside bartenders were a complete different story. Beautiful roof top bar with a great view of the city skyline and downtown, but that is about all that is special. Bartender outside not attentive, or aware at all. Bartender inside much better. You can not order food up on the rooftop, you have to go downstairs and order food, wait and bring it back up yourself. All ordering is done with your phone via QR code, which is fine but if you're with a group and someone in your group orders first and put their name in the site be aware that if you order after you'll have to manually select your items to pay for just yourself- or else you'll be paying your groups entire food/drink tab. Do not recommend having anyone in your party put their name in while ordering. We visited on a busy Saturday around 8pm, pretty slow and chill at first - plenty of room to move around the rooftop and got significantly crowded after that- which is to be expected for a bar scene downtown IMO. Overall my rating is for the lack of bartender awareness on the rooftop, and the hassle of ordering food. read more

Hot town, summer on the city, going to the bar, gonna sit in the sun, on a roof and drink. Yup, that's this bar. We biked across town to hit this spot. This bar is literally on a rooftop. You climb the stairs to work up your thirst. (There is an elevator) Head outside and soak up the sun. There is a bar island you can sit around, sit at tables or play bags. Watch a little tv and if you get to hot head inside for shade and another drink to cool down. Our waitress was very kind and quick to help. If I was living downtown I might be here more often. read more

Chill bar with a rooftop. Friendly and efficient servers, so you're never waiting endlessly at the bar for a drink or for a server to come by. Smokers of Des Moines may love this place, as they literally takeover the rooftop portion of the place. But if you don't smoke or you don't enjoy waiting for a long time to be served, I would not waste time coming to this place. I'll be very surprised if this place is still under the same management in one year. read more

This place has awesome trivia nights on Wednesday's. I mostly enjoy being here in the warm season because of the glorious rooftop overlooking the city, but regardless it's a great bar. Drinks can be a bit pricey, but if you're a simple gal like me who enjoys a regular ol' domestic beer you won't have to worry about that. It helps that there are some great food options right downstairs in case you need to eat before or after you booze! Can't drink on an empty stomach! read more

This place was just ok. I went with a large group for a happy hour event and the service was lackluster. I ordered three drinks and each time the waitress came back and said they were out of it. This was bothersome on two fronts: She should have known, and given their limited selection of draft beers it should not have been hard to keep them in stock. When the event was over I still had time to kill before heading to the theater so I decided to grab a tallboy of PBR from the bar before I left. I sat at the nearly empty bar for at least 10 minutes before the bartender asked if I wanted a drink. He cracked it and then ignored me until I had to flag him down to close my bill. The outdoor space here is pretty awesome and a great view of the city with games, but the service and quality left too much to be desired. I might give it a second chance, but there are plenty of other places to explore. read more

Oh rooftop bars I do dig you. I mean this might not be like a rooftop bar in NYC, but Des Moines skyline is unique and beautiful all the same and this one looks out to see it all! Cool art, cool space, they have tv's for sports watching! You have to take an elevator up to the bar where, a host with great you and if you are bring a baby they will say, you gotta go, can't have a baby here!.. Good to know! But the place is super nice, drinks are on the cusp of being a bit pricey for DSM but that is the direction our lovely city is moving! Hopefully not to fast! Met a few friends after work for libations and live music. The live music made the evening, love seeing DeMo talent out and about town. I spotted a Guinness pull tap and got really excited!!! Not to mention the bartender knew how to pour a Guinness. I'll bet this place is hopping when rooftop is open and not just a smoking area. In the winter this place is small and very cramped. Our waitress was great, but she was stressed, as the other waitress was just standing around staring at the talent and his guitar. I felt really bad for the other tables. The space was really well thought out and made you felt comfortable. One draw back there are only two tables set up for larger groups and they are the spots with cushioned bar stools. As one would expect not all the seat are taken in these tables cuz who wants, if given a choice, to sit on a hard metal chair. You basically have small groups at he large group tables all night. A fun bar with a good atmosphere and good bartenders but the parking ruins this place. Legitimately $25 if you lose your ticket, nearly 25% of my tab hanging out there just tacked on. Was a fun experience in the bar, but totally destroyed by the parking tax of this place. read more

Such a fun new spot!! You can order pizza from Blaze Pizza downstairs which is perfect for the day drinkers ;) Beautiful rooftop with a couple sets of bags games to play. It is also smoker friendly; cigarettes and cigars to be specific. Plenty of seating and so close to other places downtown, it's the perfect spot to stop when you're out biking (which is what we did =)). We didn't spend much time inside as it was absolutely beautiful out, but the decor is so eclectic -- industrial chic, if I had to put it into verbiage. read more

300 Craft and Rooftop is another place that I have fallen in love with! This place has reasonably priced drinks and the atmosphere is perfect for hanging out with friends. I've been here on a few weekends and this place can get pretty packed and for good reason because they have a live DJ on the weekends. If you come here during the week, you can grab a few drinks, chat it up with friends, and enjoy the scenery. Perfect for all those Iowa summer nights! Sat at the bar on a slow Friday night, and the three of them continued talking for about 2 minutes until one of them finally welcomed us and asked what we wanted. Des Moines needs more rooftop bars and far as location goes, this place delivers. Great rooftop seating and live music overlooking the DSM skyline. Their tap beer selection could be better but they supplemented it well with a variety of craft beer cans/bottles. Overall, pretty good experience but the place is quickly becoming a favorite of the nightlife crowd and tables fill up quickly. Lots of standing... I would definitely go back on a 90 degree day though to relax and socialize. read more

We stopped in to have a beer... had our daughter with us.. there were maybe 6 people in the whole place... didn't know that you have to be 21 to be on the rooftop... the waitress instead of coming to our table to explain this was a complete and utter bitch about her being in there... I feel like if that is a law there should be a person monitoring the door to check id's the entire time this place is open... and the staff should not be so rude! read more
