Overall, we had fun, but there were some MAJOR issues. Drinks were very expensive (around $7.50 each). More concerning was a "regular customer named Hunter" who followed my friends and I around throughout the night. We reported his behavior to security MULTIPLE times, explaining that he was making us uncomfortable, but he was never asked to leave. He spent the night staring at us, following us around, and continuing to walk back and forth around our table. He also approached other women in ways that made them uncomfortable. He carried a fan and used it to blow up my friend's top. We witnessed him putting the fan near another woman's skirt. Security eventually asked him to put the fan away as that "was the issue", but no further action was taken despite numerous complaints. He was reported MULTIPLE times to the servers and security, and was NEVER escorted out because "he's usually harmless." Thankfully, a group of guys stood by my friends and my side all night, making sure this creep would not approach us again. Due to this man's creepy behavior and security's failure to make sure my friends and I were safe, I would NEVER return. read more

We had so much fun at Shotgun Betty's! The energy was awesome from start to finish. Jake was amazing--super friendly and made the whole night even better. Great little bar in the Des Moines area. I'm not a huge country music fan, but I do love dancing, and have recently gotten into line dancing. We grabbed beers from the bar, found a table, and enjoyed the scene on a Thursday night. It was pretty busy considering it wasn't yet the weekend, and the crowd was really pleasant. I wish we could've stayed longer because it was such a fun spot. I would definitely return back next time I'm in town and I recommend Shotgun Betty's to anyone in the area! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would.. A girl took a video/photo over the stalls, and that was okay? But two girls in the same stall was not... Absolutely disgusting. They kicked me and a friend out without any cause. Had to leave two full drinks at the bar once the bouncer made us leave. As long as I've been going here I just cant grasp the draw to this place. Its packed to the gills after 9pm every time. They over serve guest everytime I'm there. It's hard to get to the bathroom much less anywhere else. It's just really not that friendly of an environment. They need more security and ask people to leave who are crashing into others trying to enjoy their night. read more

Hey! Shotgun Betty's was really unfortunate, my friend went first and her ID was real, and my other friend went second. Both ID's were real, the bouncer decided to take my friends and refused to give it back. Because of this she had to go to the DMV and get a new one. Unacceptable. read more

You really can't find a country bar better than Shotgun Betty's. Whenever I am in West Des Moines, this is my go to! The karaoke nights are a blast and after some liquid courage you can kick up your boots, and find yourself a flannel-clad country boy to teach you how to two-step. Party Bus Stop! If you are a country fan at all this is a great stop! Out in West glen area this bar has a dance floor that was almost body to body in every other song. There was room for people to boogie when the songs came on and it was easy to get up to the bar for a quick shot. The bartender was very friendly and quick. The DJ was also as friendly with all the ladies and even handed out a couple beers and shots. I really think for the few country bars we have in town this is a good stop. There are a few booths around the edges of the bar if you want to sit and chat but good luck with the rocking music selections. Well be back again as we love to two step. read more

This is a fun country bar in West Des Moines. We went here after watching the game at Wellmans and had a blast. Th crowd is a good mix of locals and tourists, and country music fans to casual observers. The bartenders are friendly and the prices are good. They sometime have live music but mostly they have a DJ who is focused on keeping the crowd rocking and dancing! They have a good selection of local beers and a lot of whisky, of course! This place was hoppin' on a Saturday night! We ended up here after a wedding and it was a great place to mingle for a couple of hours before hitting the hay. Drinks were reasonably priced, easy to get to and although the place was crowded, it was manageable. There were lots of places to mingle with people in your group - inside at a handful of tall boy tables and outside in the cool night air. Getting taxis and Ubers afterwards was fairly easy, too. If you are looking for country music and dancing, this place is great for you! Has indoor and an outdoor areas to drink, friendly bartenders, and decent beer selection. Only drawback coming here is that it can get crowded, so much so that standing in the wrong place can mean being constantly pushed out of the way. I was here once, but I came here after visiting Wellmans and Cowboy Jack's. I gotta say, I wasn't that impressed. The place is pretty small and super dark, and there aren't a lot of places to try and sit. It didn't help that the other people playing pool didn't actually believe that me (a girl) would want to play, let alone be even decent, but that isn't the bar's fault. The drinks were fine though, so if you're in west glen it's worth the bar hop. We hopped through here faster than other places, that's what I'll say about that. read more

went on a weekend and had a great time. it has a "country" bar feel. barn boards, dimly lit. and a large wood dance floor. it dose not have draft beer and the selection of bottles was smaller than i would like, but all in all i was pleased with it.. it played country music the whole time which is getting harder to find in iowa. it had alot of bouncer staff which for me is not a problem, i would rather have a problem free experiance. read more
