Two sets of dentures that fit so well I didn't need an adhesive. They have been very good to me.

I was referred by a clinic to this dentist office. I go for my appointment, mind you it's my first time here....the assistant takes X-rays of my mouth, the doctor came out so rude saying "he needs to get this tooth removed today he has been wasting my time". I'm confused and look at the assistant, I tell her this is my first time here....she has to go find the doctor to tell him that, I hear him going back and forth with her swearing that he has seen my X-rays already....mind you it's my first time here... So he comes back around to my cubicle and doesn't even apologize just tells me to put my head back and digs in my mouth, then walks off without a word.... He sends the assistant back to tell me unfortunately the doctor smells "weed" on me and won't be able to see me any further and proceeds to tell me that they will refer me to the college of dental in Coralville.I don't even smoke "weed"... I was the only African American there and I feel like I was racially profiled and treated unfairly by Dr Safabakhsh. I'm not sure how he knew me or even seen any of my labs if it was my first time at that office.... I felt like he didn't want to see me or care for me because of my skin color. read more

These people have moved the same appointment around for the last 3 months and with no follow-up. Every time the appointment comes up on the date they decide they need to move it out another month. No idea when it will actually be fulfilled and at this point seems like never. read more

I had made an appointment and had requested Moriarty. I was given to a different dentist, who did my initial check up. His dental hygienist was rude. He was polite for the first appointment, but when going back to get a filling done and I told him after 3 shots of novocaine I could still feel everything that it was "normal" to feel pressure. But what I felt was NOT pressure, it was sharp, stinging pain and I left the office in tears. Besides that, he put in a mercury filling which I have been told to not get by other oral care professionals, and my hematologist due to a blood enzyme deficiency. Did not ask me what type of filling I would prefer. NEVER in my history of the dentist has this happened to me, and during this time when I am visibly upset he refers to my hematologist as a "quack," and complains about having to replace the filling. After replacing the filling, it was too high and hurt to bite down. He did not check to make sure the enamel colored filling was level. I went to a different dentist office to have it filed down, and asked them about the difference in fillings. And again, I was told a lot of people have problems with mercury fillings, and I should have been told what kind of care I was receiving (duh?). I decided under urging of family friends to again make an appointment, and requested Dr. Moriarty again. The day before my appointment with Dr. Moriarty, I receive a call from Gentle Dental saying they had put me with the wrong dentist, not the dentist I had been seeing, and told me my appointment had been moved from 11:30am to 9:30am. I told them no, I had requested Dr. Moriarty and that was who i wanted to see, i had no intention of going back to the previous orthodontist. I have little desire in seeing any sort of medical professional who does not care about my pain level or care. I am placed on hold, she comes back to tell me I am keeping my 11:30am. I am grateful, and hang up. Shortly later I receive another call asking me if noon is okay. I say yes, that was fine I just wanted to see the dentist I had requested. I go in the next day, and again, it is NOT the dentist I had requested. It wasn't the previous dentist, so I said whatever and decided to give it a try! His hygienist was a total sweetheart. I have nothing bad to say about her. She was caring, and listened. This first appointment went fine, but when it came time to get my second filling it was the same nonsense. I could feel everything, after explaining that I have a high tolerance to local anesthetic. He said I could "handle it" and also gave me a lecture about my hematologist being a quack when I guarantee he has probably never heard of acute intermittent porphyria. Again, I left the office in tears, and immediately went to another dental facility, which scheduled me for the next day for an emergency root canal I was in so much pain - considerably more than when I went in. During my emergency root canal, I was told that during the filling the dentist had put what she referred to as a "spur" in my root, causing the intense pain. I'm sure there are phenomenal dentists there. Dr. Moriarty has been described to me as an amazing professional which is who I wanted to see. I tried to give them multiple chances, and was left both times leaving in intensely more pain than when I went in - having to pay to have another dentist fix their errors. I would have been happy to give the dentist I requested a try, but when I'm told that I "can't believe everything I read online" about their care, completely negating the care I have personally had there, and care friends have received and told me about, I have no desire to go back. I hope others have better luck, but if you need special care due to any health concerns I recommend you seek another facility for your dental work. read more

My boyfriend waited over an hour for his appointment. When he got into his appointment (this appointment was scheduled over a month in advance) they simply rescheduled him. While this is definitely an inconveniece and an hour and a half doesn't seem like all that much, the problem is that they charged him outrageous rates. His insurance was charged and he had to pay $200. I called the office, and the secretary said that the rate of a standard exam was $59, and I can fully confirm that $59 does not equal $200. I had rapid decay in my top jaw and lower back molars, most of my bottom teeth could have been saved, and I had an infection that was swelling my face up and I just had to quit my job because of it. The doctor looked at my teeth for a few seconds, and we decided on pulling all of my teeth. I am 19 years old, so knowing this is already scary enough. Scheduled an appointment for the 9th, not knowing if I was going to be gassed or put under at all. I ask and they tell me local anesthetic, the only oral surgeon that would accept my insurance is in Waterloo. So I really didn't have much of a choice. I had over 10 vials of the numbing agent harshly shoved into my gums, they said that the worst part was over. Warning this next part gets graphic seriously if you are queasy don't read this I asked how he was going to do it and the nurse (bless her she was amazing, all of the nurses are amazing there) told me that he was going to loosen them and then pull them. Okay, so as he begins working he uses the loosening tool maybe once and rips my teeth out, I literally have a chunk of my tooth still left in my gums right now. Mind you, I have now over 10 open holes in my mouth right now. He tells me, "Stop screaming, you're only making it worse on yourself." So I am already freaking out because my teeth are currently being ripped out and I'm fully conscious. I was then yelled at for getting blood on him when I was literally choking on my own blood and then was forced to lay back down. But thank god they waved my 17 dollar fee. I walked out of there bawling and wasn't able to calm down until about 9-10 at night. About 9 hours after my appointment. This company is a waste of time. I have been with them since 2001. I dont need attention very often but this last time drew the line. They jerked me around way to much. I have now been in pain for 2 weeks. i was told 1 thing on the phone got to the office and my surgery never even happened. Then i asked for help for the pain and i was told the Dr doesnt believe in pain medicine. Unbelievable. I would not recommend my worst enemy to go to this office. read more

I have received nothing for this review nor am I sharing it for any other reason than my honest opinion of 2 dentists seen and multiple procedures after my mother's high opinion of them. I have always felt they have done a superior job and have recommended friends. I will continue seeing them. I was in the waiting room waiting on a friend that was having his teeth cleaned. In that 30 minutes I heard 10 people that had been back having work done on them come up to the counter to make appointments for root canals. When my friend was done he came out and also was told he needed a root canal also. 11 people in 30 minutes needing root canals?!! Went here because at the time I thought they were the only place that accepts Title 19 (they're not!) Hygienists are nice people, but the dentists are crude and treat you like an object on the table that brings in money, not a human being attached to that jaw they're yanking around. I didn't realize how awful the bedside manners and patient treatment was until I went elsewhere. They don't even have rooms and the only thing between you and the guy next to you - no matter what your procedure is - is a shower curtain. Don't go here under any circumstances. read more

Last chance for Gentle Dental. Extracted one tooth, purposely neglected to tell me oaf the next tooth being bad and should have been pulled also. Tried to convince me to get a root canal, I said to just pull it. Didn't like that so had me waiting in chair for over an hour and then when I complained of the time, they told me maybe I should go somewhere else, which I did. read more

Bad teeth run in my family. I went in hoping to get some work done. The dentist accused me of being on meth, and when I said I wasn't, he pulled the hygienist aside and within ear shot spent 10 minutes telling her I was lying to them. If I could give them a no star I would. DO NOT come here. I saw the negative reviews before I came here, and I did not heed the warning's. On my first appointment here the nurse that cleaned my teeth scraped every single spot on my gums that she could, was not gentle at all. I then had to schedule to have a filling done two weeks later because they were too busy that day, when I and one other person were in the office. When the doctor filled my cavity, he left part of the filling in between my two teeth causing me to not be able to floss, and now I'm sensitive prior to the appointment. He also was NOT GENTLE. I have had fillings before but this man pulled and pushed so hard I thought my tooth would fall out. A week goes by and the tooth is still sensitive so I schedule and appointment to come in for them to look at it (extra filling had fallen off the tooth now), she tells me the only available time they had was two weeks out- so I schedule for it. I go in today, after waiting weeks now, no appointment was scheduled for today- in fact, IT WAS LAST WEEK! So I sat there for 45 minutes because she thought she could fit me in- Well I'm sitting there all the receptionists are talking about is new houses that they're looking at, new cars and their sex lives!
