Vintage on Selby truly is a great place!…read more The decor inside is thoughtful, refined, chic & warm. I absolutely love the communal spaces throughout - the have a large pool table, plenty of tv's and seats for guests. The outdoor pool & grill area is great as well; I can definitely see myself bathing in the sun like a true Minnesotan in April. I also love the eclectic mix of antique staples that you'll find throughout the building (think vintage mail boxes that double as the front desk and a old school barred safe door to get into their office). Whole foods being located next door; can we say convenient! A plethora of great organic fare and awesome home products too. Check out the juice bar, or bar bar. They have both! My only negative is the price point - considering there aren't any amazing views. Think Lowertown pricing located near 94 and Snelling. Overall though - amazing new condos in St. Paul! The leasing agents are so friendly and the vibe itself is awesome.

IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE... THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE…read more Lipstick on a pig - don't let the aesthetic of the building fool you. I could say a lot about this place, but if you read nothing else, know this: if safety is important to you, look elsewhere. During our time here, the building became increasingly unsafe. It became normal to find people hanging out in the exits and common areas, openly using drugs and leaving behind drug paraphernalia. There were multiple break-ins while we lived here, yet nothing ever seemed to change. You shouldn't have to walk past people getting high just to get in or out of your apartment. Cops had to be called several times. One time they even started a fire in the doorway. I've attached photos documenting many of these issues so you can judge for yourself. Management wasn't much better. Communication was inconsistent, concerns were brushed aside, and it often felt like management was more interested in looking for reasons to blame residents than actually solving problems. When we received a notice that our lease wasn't being renewed, I asked Julie why. That's when she casually mentioned she thought she had smelled marijuana coming from our apartment. That accusation was completely false. It had never been brought up with us before, there was no warning, and there was no documentation. Then, after we pushed back, the non-renewal was suddenly reversed because she had "failed to document it." It's hard to have confidence in management when something as important as whether you get to keep your home seems to come down to undocumented assumptions. The move-out process was more of the same. We followed their instructions, yet they later tried to rely on issues they had never properly documented before. The communication around our security deposit was also frustrating. After the statutory deadline had effectively passed, we received an email saying they were still waiting on invoices. At the end of the day, I don't expect perfection from an apartment building. I do expect it to be safe, and I expect management to be fair and professional. Unfortunately, Vintage fell short on both. I can't recommend living here. Trust me for what you'll pay you can find something much safer and more professionally managed.

WARNING - STAY THERE ONLY IF YOU ARE REAL DESPERATE…read more I have lived in Midaway/Hamline area for so many years and this has to be the worst experience I ever had. The landlord (or should I say Landlady) has only one mission. That is to suck you out of your money. Her name is Gwynne Evans. She owns two buildings next to each other (1617 and 1625 Sherburne) Try to talk to a few current tenants before leasing and you surely will never come back to this building. Complaints 1) It is impossible to reach landlady by phone. You are always going to get her voicemail and most of the times the mailbox is full and you can't even leave her a voicemail 2) You will never see the landlady again once you have signed the lease. So forget about reporting damage/repair issues. There is no onsite manager or caretaker. So keep guessing how to get repair work done. 3) The building interiors are real dirty. In two years I never saw any cleaners. 4) The landlady has some mysterious "agents" who act as her messengers. Your lease will be delivered by them. You have to call them to get your keys. I think the landlady is not aware of something called United States Postal Service? Or maybe she does not want to leave any proofs of her failed promises. 5) These "messengers" will haunt you at your workplace. It might sound creepy but that happened to me a few times. Be sure to never give your work address or phone no. 6) Landlady does not pay utility bills on time. I have seen notices posted on building front doors saying "water supply will be cut due to non-payment". Now it is scary to learn you might run out of water on Monday morning when you are rushing for college or work. Isn't it? 7) The trash disposal service is unpredictable. Don't be shocked if you see garbage pile up because landlady has not paid trash removal company. I have seen mountains of trash pile up once when there was no removal for 3 to 4 weeks. If you are still desperate to rent these apartments, here are some tips 1) Get everything in writing. Do not (I repeat DO NOT) assume anything or take her word for granted. It happened to me couple of times landlady will say things and then don't act on it. You have no way of proving verbal agreements. Right? 2) Get these things in written in lease agreement: Who to contact for repairs? Name, phone no. of contact person? How long the turnaround time for repairs would be? How often the building common places would be cleaned? Who will do this cleaning? What if water/trash bills are not paid? What damages will you receive? And I am sure the landlady has no answer to any of above questions. She might give vague verbal assurance. So remember: GET EVERYTHING WRITTEN IN LEASE 3) Try to get a month to month lease 4) Make sure you understand the lease. Ask landlady to change terms if you don't like something 5) One special note: there is a clause in lease which says you need to get carpet clean before leaving. I have no problem with that. My only peeve is that when I got apartment, the carpet was real dirty. I paid $150 to get it cleaned thinking I will get credit for it. And you know by now what happened? If you can't even reach the landlady, how can you even get anything going? What a rip off! There are many other nice apartments on backside of this building and on Charles Avenue , Snelling Ave and near Hamline University. I will not suggest 1617 or 1625 Sherburne to anyone. Maybe if you are real desperate. Thanks everyone

From the service drive, you have easy access to the parking lot and the elevators which go to the apartments. The gym here is awesome. The treadmills sync to your apple watch so it can give you accurate workout results. They have enough cable machines to keep anyone happy. Downside is that the dumbells only go up to 50lbs and the bench is a smith machine. Otherwise can't complain about the gym. The gym is open 24/7 I believe... The pool and lounge areas are pretty nice. There are 4 to 6 grills (didn't look too closely) so there is plenty of grilling space to go around. The people here are all pretty nice and haven't seen anyone causing trouble yet. The main lounge area/pool deck at the center of the apartment is shut down at 10pm so there isn't any issues with noise. All in all, no complaints so far. The apartment is beautiful and you get a lot for how much you are spending. Hopefully will write an update review in 6 months to a year.

The building has the potential to be one of the most sought out in the city. For my particular unit, I am very pleased with the cost and rent increases. It is very convenient to downtown, public transportation, easy access to highways, etc. We have a great maintenance and housekeeping team. The apartments have in-unit laundry, dark brown luxury vinyl plank flooring and carpet, great kitchen storage including island with storage, open dining-kitchen concept, some units with balconies, collaborative spaces in elevator lobbies for work/meeting, spectacular sky lounge overlooking downtown, coffee station. However, we have a little work to do...... Multiple property management teams (usually recycled every 6 months) *Customer service obstacles have been noticed *Understaffed property management team to address 178 units Amenity maintenance challenges (pool, coffee station) Poor security monitoring for downtown *The displaced frequently show up Residents engaging in cognitive dissonance *Leaving shopping carts in inappropriate places *Theft of other residence packages *Irresponsible disposal of items *Smoking on certain floors within the building Overall, I love the building, the apartment, wonderful residents, and maintenance-housekeeping teams. My perspective is that this is not my final destination, but a place of being for this moment in time. The building is still a work in progress, but not for everyone. So if your tolerance is low for amenities that are not functioning for their intended use or a demanding individual with high expectations, this is not the place for you.
