Dr. Brown is an amazing pediatrician - ON PAPER. She's written books, been featured on Good Morning America, and sits on the APA board. And I'm sure she loves doing all those things... but seeing actual pediatric patients? Not so much apparently. We started seeing Dr. Brown when we moved to Austin in June of 2016. Like many other parents, we were impressed by her accolades and thought that 411 Pediatrics would be a great fit for our family. Dr. Brown's approach is to make parents feel as inadequate as possible. She will glare at you with scorn while judging you if your toddler cries during his or her visit, making comments like "Ugh! What is her problem?" (Um... she's two and she had strep throat last month so she's a little afraid of the doctor at the moment?)... and "OH MY GOD, is she always like this?" (Um... again, no. She's just afraid of the doctor. This is fairly new since she had strep throat last month and had various uncomfortable doctors' visits. Is this really that uncommon?) These are actual things that Dr. Brown said to me, VERBATIM, during a particularly rough visit for my little one after an episode of strep throat. During the entire visit, there was not one attempt on her part to make my toddler more comfortable. Not one smile directed at me or my distressed child. And it's not like the our previous visits had been much better. I wanted to post this for other parents who may have had a similar experience with Dr. Brown: You're not alone. And for anyone wondering if it has to be this way, it doesn't! A good pediatrician is one who is not only knowledgeable and thorough, but one who is also able to treat a little one with care and compassion during a rough doctor's visit. One who is willing to make an effort to put your little one at ease and make him or her smile. We had that before we started seeing Dr. Brown, and we have found that again since we started seeing a different pediatrician. Please don't settle for someone who doesn't treat you or your child with kindness and respect, just because she looks good on paper. read more

Was only able to see Dr Brown once, in our years going to this office. The PAs were sufficient during those years. But, I have a complaint about the reception staff. Today I went to get her medical records, to send to her college, and I had her issue a parental release consent, while I was in the office. They said they could email it directly to her. I said perfect, and I need a copy as well. They handed me a hard copy, but my daughter asked them (in writing, and over phone), for an email copy via email and they said they were too busy to reply to her request. Meanwhile it was 2pm, and no one was in the waiting room. A simple request, two workers standing there, and they were "too busy" to do the minimum. I returned a few minutes later and they were still stand there whispering. For a pediatric office, I would expect more from the staff. The front desk staff was intentionally unaccommodating. It is currently two hours later and my daughter still hasn't received the PDF she needs for her medical records from them, and settled for a screen shot from me. read more

We came here after hours. The office is adorable and I was grateful for the fact that someone could see us at 7pm. Office staff was sweet as well. Points for that. The Dr. on call unfortunately didn't notice my little one's ear infection. After about $250 of office visit fees and tests we were sent to the ER. 3 hours later with a tired and cranky little one, we saw the ER dr who looked in her ears and immediately diagnosed the ear infection. I was a little disappointed this wasn't diagnosed at 411 as it seemed fairly straight forward to the ER people. The total bill for both ER and 411 came out to about $1200. I only wish they saw it as it would have saved us a lot of money and time wasted sitting for 4 hrs at the ER. ____________________ We followed up with this office after the birth of my second baby...not sure why since I had such a terrible experience the first time but it was close to where we lived and I thought I could give it another chance. The nurse was cold and quiet and neither her nor the doctor gave us the final measurements and percentages for our baby which seemed to be standard practice at all of the drs visits I went to with my first born. I was by myself during this visit, two days after I had delivered and no one offered to help me even open the door while I was trying to carry baby, carrier, and my purse. They just kind of came and went. We met with Dr. Ari Brown the next day after it appeared our little one may have had jaundice. Dr. Brown did not touch, come near or look at our child....just issued another test, showed us the curve of jaundice scale, and told us that we weren't a good fit since we wanted to do a dealyed vaccination schedule. My husband and I have a history of vaccine complications, we decided to delay our babies schedule. The entire 10 minutes of meeting with her was more focused on her dissatisfaction with our decision to postpone and not on the newborn who was brought in for a follow up. Unbelievably, Dr. Brown left without touching or looking at our child. She made it quite clear she's not interested in working with children who opt to delay but a bit more care given to the child at hand would have been appreciated especially since we were paying for the visit. read more

We checked the reviews here and took notice of the bad ones. However my coworker spoke so highly of 411 Pediatrics and Dr. Brown that we went ahead and started care for our newborn baby. We were impressed with the virtual meet and greet and Dr. Brown. It was important to find a doctor who was very strict on all patients being vaccinated, no exceptions. However, we didn't have a great experience. I thought the lack of bedside manner wouldn't bother me, but after going home in tears for the second time, we've decided to look elsewhere. My baby is healthy and happy and yet I walked away still feeling inadequate as a new mom. When you feel like you can't ask questions because your pediatrician will make you feel stupid, it's time for a change. We even met a family the other day that ended up having the exact same experience as us. They chose to switch doctors within the practice. We've chosen to leave the practice. I also had a good experience with one lactation consultant there and a very awkward and poor experience with the other. No one in the office has ever been particularly warm with us nor seems to even like babies. This is just OUR experience. My recommendation: Give them a try. Lots of people love Dr. Brown and the practice. Her style didn't work for us, but she could work for you. She's a good person and a good doctor. Her books Baby 411 and Expecting 411 are THE BEST baby books. But if you walk out of there feeling stupid or inadequate or even more confused or you hesitate to ask questions...it's okay to find someone else that matches your style and needs. You don't owe them anything because, hell, those doctor visits aren't cheap! read more

We love Dr. Brown and her office staff. My toddler had RSV when he was three months old, and Dr. Brown saw him on Christmas Eve. Her Lactation consultant figured out a rare issue I had. I wish I had seen her from the beginning because I wasted a lot of time, energy, money and tears on other consultants in town!!! I also love Dr. Brown's books, and I've been able to manage a lot of issues at home without the necessity of an appointment based on the sound info from her 411 series. (All of them). Dr. Brown always answers my online (Patient Portal) questions timely. I have a difficult time with anyone who gives her bad reviews for their personal vaccination beliefs. Dr. Brown is looking out for her patients' interests and wellbeing. Babies can't receive some vaccines until they're 1. There's also children who are immunocompromised. Why would any physician knowingly put their patients' at risk? Kudos to Dr. Brown for her position on that. read more

Stopped here last night for the first time to get my toddler checked out for something minor. The fact that they are open until 8pm for drop in visits on weeknights is so convenient. Check in and new patient paperwork was not too onerous, and everyone was super friendly. There are no toys or books in the waiting area, so my toddler was sort of crawling all over the furniture and me, but I understand from a disease and germ-spreading standpoint why those diversions may not be a good idea. We saw a very sweet nurse practitioner, who was knowledgeable and patient with my son. And I only had to pay the regular co-pay and not the urgent/emergency care co-pay (but again this was routine and not an emergency issue). I wouldn't hesitate to go back here if either of my sons has an after regular hours need to see a pediatrician again. read more

Congratulations to the team at 411 Pediatrics. My son was just in for his 12 yr. well check and immunizations with my mom. My mother called me from the parking lot immediately after the appointment and she raved about the wonderful experience she and my son had on this our very first visit at 411 Pediatrics. From the minute they walked in, to the meeting with the nurse(s) and the consultation with Dr. Gallagher - my mom was extremely impressed with the level of customer service and the wonderful atmosphere at this practice. I thank you so much for your kind attention to both my son and my mom and for making them feel so welcomed. And to top it off, I just learned that 411 Pediatrics offers after hours care and is open 7 days a week! This is HUGE for working parents. Kudos to you all! read more

I have to write tish review because as a latinamerican for me is a must that my baby girls has her ears pierced when she is little and can show her pretty earings and also she does not remember the pain ;) I wanted to do it at a doctor's office because I believe their procedures are better than other places and is for sure that thigs are sterilized. Additionally, they have the privacy of the room and not everybody staring like in a mall. My lttle one was 2 months and the nurse who did it was very good because she was caring and also show us if we were ok with the place of the pierce. Moreover, they use these surgical studs and give you a kit for a week to prevent any infections. She was fine she did not cry and was good at the house after. We really recommend this place because for the same price as claries or any similar you are in a doctors office. The personal is great :) read more

I knew Dr. Brown would be the best for my new baby. Everyone says so and I haven't been disappointed...and doctors appointments will be aplenty. I chose 411 Pediatrics because of her reputation and the after hours care. (Let's get real...most kiddos get sick and/or hurt during off hours, right?!) Ah...but it's the breastfeeding consultants that have me singing songs of praise! I didn't know what to expect when it came to breastfeeding other than that it would be hard (per many friends' experiences.) And it was. If it wasn't for Helina and Kiran (they are onsite, too!!) After doing some research on pediatric offices while we were pregnant with our first, my husband and I decided on 411. I'm so glad we did. Each time we've been the staff has been so friendly and timely getting us in. All three doctors are great, but Dr. Adams is our favorite! She has a great bedside manner and has a great laid back way of talking to new parents to make them feel relaxed and calm and explains things so I can understand them (she's not 'too medical'). Whenever I've messaged the practice on the patient portal I've heard back within an hour or two. They are fantastic, we love them!! read more

As another person mentioned, I too joined this practice after the previous pediatrician at this location retired. Once they found out I was on an alternative vaccination path they've been cold and uncaring. It feels like it's been noted on our record so that anyone I deal with, from the front office to a nurse, knows to not be helpful. I understand their concern with vaccinations but the silly thing is I'm working toward getting my child fully caught up, so the disdain is unnecessary. read more

I would give them 10 stars for being able to accommodate an appointment on 45 min notice when my regular pedi couldn't. The staff was highly competent, the office was nice and clean, and we were seen promptly. Dr. Brown was fine, seemed knowledgeable and I didn't think she was cold, as others mentioned. I wasn't even asked about our vaccinations. The biggest issue I had was that the room we were in smelled extremely strong like cleaner. I mean so strong I was getting a headache and had to open a window. I also thought it was odd the examining table didn't have parchment paper--I just had to lay my baby on a bare table. Hopefully they used more of that crazy cleaner because my baby had RSV (stays on surfaces for hours and can be spread through surface). Overall, good experience despite these small inconveniences. read more

I was very pleased with this doctor's office. I recently moved here from Corpus Christi. I had an awful time finding a good doctor for my now 3 yr old son. I had a baby girl here 2 months ago and this practice came highly recommended. Wow! They are very kind and courteous. I have not met my kids doctors because she was out on maternity leave, but I was able to see 3 other doctors. All were simply amazing. I would recommend this practice to others. read more

Love! Love! Love Dr. Brown and staff. With two children under the age of 5 and in childcare, we spend a lot of time at 411 Pediatrics. All the doctors are very knowledgable and know what is best for children of all ages! The office is very clean and each room is creatively decorated with a children's book theme. My 3 year old daughter knows almost all the rooms and the Dr. Seuss room is her favorite! I feel blessed to have such a wonderful practice so close and with after hour care! We had high hopes for this practice as Dr. Brown came highly recommend. Unfortunately, our experience has not been stellar. Dr. Brown is a smart doctor but her bed side manner needs work, she's highly condescending and cold. I expect someone who works with babies / children to be nurturing and that is not the case with Dr. Brown. As a new / first time mom I did not appreciate her tone and lack of warmth. I was not impressed with the on call nurse either. The office itself is as cold and lacks warmth. read more

We went to Dr. Brown after she bought our previous pediatrician's practice. Several of our nurses were staying on so we hoped to continue seeing the same friendly faces. What a disaster. We went twice, the first visit was a well check and I left in tears after being treated so terribly. Dr. Brown was so cold and rude to both me and my child, I was shocked. She was snappy in speaking with my son and so unprofessional. We went back one more time for a flu test. I wanted to give it one more chance since this office and the nurses had been my second home with a child who was frequently sick. Same attitude. Same coldness. My husband was with me and he couldn't believe the bedside manner she had. We transferred our children's records immediately and never went back. read more

Love Dr. Brown but disagree with the office claim charge policy. I brought one of my kid there for the 2nd series of 3 vaccination shot. Saw the nurse briefly for the shot then was out. We were charged for an 'office visit', medical/professional service, and vaccination. Agree with the last 2 charges; however, if we did not get to see the doctor, why were we charged for an 'office visit' and copay? Sadly, I am taking my 2 kids somewhere else... read more

I have a 9 month old baby and we have come to 411 since she was born. Dr. Gallagher is our provider and she is fantastic. She has the rare combination of a warm bedside manner, coupled with being a wealth of knowledge. As a new, first-time mom, I have had many questions and Dr. Gallagher has been helpful at every phase. I never feel rushed when we are in for an appointment and her email responses to my questions have been very thorough and helpful (email correspondence with your doctor is such a nice perk of 411.) I We've also been pleased with the nursing and support staff at 411. I know my baby is in excellent hands with Dr. Gallagher and the 411 team. read more

We love Dr. Brown and are so happy her new practice is open! 411 Pediatrics is so much cleaner and more inviting than her old practice and the office staff is much more pleasant and professional. The only downside is the location. Bee Caves can be a traffic disaster so we will try to book our next appointment in the middle of the day when traffic is lighter. read more

Dr. Ari Brown has let her "fame" go to her head. She up-charges your insurance and when the insurance doesn't pay you are left with the bill. She rushed appointments and I always feel like she can not get far enough away from my child. Appointments are scheduled and rescheduled several times before you actually get the correct appointment time however, oops the scheduled you for the wrong appointment time leading to another charge. After sitting on her thrown she then leaves to chart. At which time she will put her personal thoughts and opinions into you child's medical records. Mine includes things like "you can clearly see dad is the calm parent", "mom is overbearing" "Parents have mismanaged XYZ" she didn't like the way our first pedi was having us do something so apparently we mismanaged. I always left the office feeling like I was a suboptimal parent. I would always have to prepare myself before going to appointments for her condescending way. Please do yourself a favor and save a lot of time questioning your parenting skills look elsewhere!! read more
