First of all, these guys know their stuff. Their teaching technique was impressive and the drills were very effective. I learned alot. I think it would have been even more effective if the class had a fraction of the two dozen people who participated; A dozen or less would have been more one on one for me. I had a lot of ongoing questions during the hours I was there and it was hard to go through the process and resolve some of the problems I was encountering while they were happening with so many people on a learning curve. I was also a little taken aback when one of the instructors saw my Walther PPK 22lr and asked me, "Why'd you buy an English gun?" First of all, a Walther is a German gun from one of the oldest gun manufacturers in the world, assembled in Arkansas. I'd assume someone around guns every day of the week would know that. Second of all, who cares? You should be able to train someone with whatever they bring, from a Russian Makarov to a slingshot. I researched this gun extensively before I bought it. It doesn't have the wallop of a larger caliber but a lot of experts give it a high rating as a small, concealable semiautomatic that's pretty lethal with a ten round magazine and a rapid fire. I wasn't looking to go head to head in a gunfight. I just wanted it for home security and have in the side pocket of my truck. I wanted to learn all about it and get expert advice on how to handle it properly. (Interesting that the woman next to me also had a Walther but nobody gave her hell about it.) Also the comments that this Walther was "only good for target practice" kind of put a bummer on the learning process. Despite that, I'd go back, preferably with a one on one with Paul. Awesome experience. I've only taken 2 classes with Paul and Co. so far but I've already learned more than I have in several years of range shooting and lessons. Great outdoor setting that allows for much more realistic training than anywhere else I've been. Have you ever practiced shooting while moving or around cover? Have you practiced reloading with both hands? Do you know how to safely clear a room? The bottom line is this: if you're a gun owner (especially a new one) and your experience is limited to target practice, any situation that is less controlled is going to be completely new. Nobody wants to be in a gunfight but you REALLY don't want to be in a gunfight without being well-prepared. I really didn't appreciate how unprepared I was for the kinds of situations where I might actually have to use my gun(s) but I am much more confident already and I will continue to train here for the foreseeable future. Once you've completed the basic pistol and rifle classes, they have refinement training (operator status class) that will further expand your skill set with new, unconventional scenarios that change every class. All the instructors I've met are engaging and highly experienced: they've been doing this a long time and it shows. My classes so far have had people of all levels, from brand new shooters to retired career military guys. Everybody learned came out feeling more ready for whatever may come; that's why we buy guns in the first place, right? If you're looking for true tactical training, this is the place for you. read more

While they were good for learning very basic firearm skills, I didn't feel prepared to respond if I was faced with a real-life self-defense situation. A big 'Thanks' to Paul and George @ 4G Tactical for providing a well-designed tactical shotgun class. I was particularly impressed with their focus on gun & range safety. The class begins with Paul and George 'sterilizing' the range and they continue to focus on safety through actual range operations. They require continued hydration for attendees, provide a tent cover to get you out of the sun and encourage attendees to eat as they need. You can feel confident that your personal safety and health are priority one for these gentlemen. While safety is the priority, you'll also be assured that the class focuses on using your shotgun in the tactical situations you might encounter at home, travel or at other events. You shoot in static positions, on the move, in prone positions (if you're able - knee pads can be used), using concealment and cover. You'll be introduced to a variety of shotgun loads, however, you'll only use bird/target shot during the course. I came away with a much broader set of capabilities for using my Mossberg pump shotgun - my primary goal for the class. Lastly, I want to commend Paul and George on assisting attendees who are new to pump and semi-auto shotguns. Apart from their focus on safety, both gents were helpful-as-heck in getting my 2-point sling attached to my shotgun and ensuring I was otherwise properly outfitted for the course. I have nothing but amazing things to say about 4G Tactical. My husband and I purchased guns a few months ago. I had never shot a gun in my life and was nervous about the entire process and wondering if the $100 price would be worth it. YES it was! This was an amazing experience from the Initial phone call to the class. The class was well thought out and had people with all levels training. The two instructors made you feel comfortable and secure. They were also both really funny so it was lot of fun. I started out with a scream on my first shot because of the gun blow back and ended 5 hours later with the instructor saying I did really good for my first time. Yes it was five hours so nothing felt rushed. I like that the class was held outdoors on a shooting range and that there were people of all ethnicities in the class as well. There were 26 people in the class (max capacity) and we were split into even and odd numbers so you never felt crowded. And I'll say it again, safety was their primary concern. I learned the right way to hold, load and shoot. Although I know I will need much more practice, I felt very confident when I left that I could use my gun if I'm an emergency situation. I've been attending Paul's classes for a couple of years now, and have taken nearly all of his rifle and pistol courses. Paul has a direct and clear teaching style, emphasizing mastery through repetition. He communicates his shooting doctrine in a concise, conversational tone, and he likes to tie in real-world reasoning behind all of his exercises and teachings. The other instructors I've seen are also all very good, and often will pull aside students for one-on-one instruction and help. For any beginners out there, don't feel intimidated! Every class has a pretty broad range of skill levels, but the instructors do a great job to make sure everyone is acting in a safe manner and is getting the attention they need. In the lower-level classes, there is a lot of emphasis on learning safe practices and important shooting terminology. Paul will often have students first do certain exercises 'dry' (with a completely unloaded gun) before shooting it live, which really helps the drills feel comfortable and safe. I also really recommend his emergency first aid classes, especially the two-day TCCC class. It was fun, engaging, and a great way to get practical knowledge that everyone would benefit from knowing. read more

I really like to shoot and train, so I have taken several local classes as well as classes all over the country with big name schools. I rank Paul's instruction up with the best I have taken. He clearly builds off of his Marine Corps Anti-Terror and Close Quarters Combat experience, so everything he teaches is based in strong fundamentals. I've been training with him at least once a month since about last April, so I've been to many of his classes and seen him work well with a wide range of students. I've seen him work well with both brand new shooters as well as experienced ones, female students and male, teenagers and older folks. He really is an excellent instructor and keeps his classes serious, safe and focused but also fun. I would recommend him for anyone, any experience level looking for firearms instruction. It is probably worth mentioning that I am a West Pointer, combat veteran, and serving in the Army since 1984 so I have very high standards and expectations when it comes to training and don't make this recommendation lightly. read more

For the newbie handgun owner....my wife got her lessons in class as well as range time very recently. All of her questions and worries about how to properly handle, cylinder loading and range experts has given her years of experience in one day's time. Meeting at the South River Gun Club for basic information for a few hours and then onto the outdoor course for range training as well as private lessons by one or more of the team instructors present at all time. She came in with a snub nose 38 that she was unable to get control for 100% accuracy (although in the 400s) as the weapon's barrel went up and to the right. We'll continue to practice on accuracy and overcoming the problems with a weak hand/wrist and a 2in barrel on a .38 revolver. 4G Tactical did a wonderful job as she returned home very confident and possessing a new skill that she was troubled to demonstrate in front of a crowd. The crowd on range for the most part were just as newbie as my bride. Best investment any parent or spouse could make for a loved one. read more

I did some extensive research on several training programs in the area and 4G Tactical stood out from all the others. Paul Forgey(4G) is a true professional and that goes for his entire staff. George Kubitz is "That Guy". They "ooze" with knowledge. If you don't leave there feeling that you've learned something and with more confidence then you were asleep the entire class.The instruction is focused on safety first, basic understanding of the weapon and it's nomenclature, task oriented and mission specific. GREAT TRAINING. As an old Recon Marine I have had a fair share of training. After many years away from it, I decided to get back into training. I chose Paul and 4G Tactical due to his resume and background. I have taken three classes now and I must say that Paul's classes are better than anything I received in the military. Paul and George have an easy manner and thorough knowledge of shooting and teaching. I have watched them with newer shooters and their patience is unmatched. They stress safety and proper firearms handling at all times. They take the time for one on one suggestions for improvement. The classes start with basics and the drills build on top of each other. Their progression of drills are fun and challenging to all skill levels. Took the tactical shotgun course this past weekend as a complete newbie. With doing something new, there are always nerves and especially more when you are dealing with something as serious as firearms. Paul and George took all those concerns away immediately by opening the class with safety and emphasizing it diligently and repeatedly throughout the course. They pack a lot of knowledge and practice in their courses and I left 100% more comfortable and knowledgeable with the shotgun. I signed up five adult children and in-laws for the basic pistol class. Even though a few of them had some 'experience', ALL of them agreed they learned a lot of valuable skills needed to own and operate a pistol safely. Two were very apprehensive about handling firearms at all, and both came out much more confident and comfortable around handguns. Paul and George emphasized safety above all, and made absolutely sure that all the participants had succeeded at the task at hand before moving onto the next. As of this writing, I've taken five classes with Paul and George at 4G Tactical and plan on many more in the years to come. I started out with the basic pistol class to see how they handle people unfamiliar with guns. They were amazing. They teach in plain language and everything they teach is practical and easy to implement by even the novice. Each class builds on that foundation and while the exercises and concepts become more complex, the level of instruction is still done in everyday language that anyone can understand. The more classes you take with 4G, the more is expected of you. They teach the individual as well as the class. I'm pushed to improve with each class I take and that's how it should be. With no previous experience, I signed up for and took the 4G tactical Basic Pistol Class with aspirations of learning the fundamentals of gun safety as well as basic firearm shooting. The Class far exceeded my expectations. The instructors made the class fun while emphasizing the extreme importance of the proper handling of everyone's firearm. The entire class was thorough, and I never felt rushed or pressured to complete an exercise, which made the learned information more retainable. The hands-on instructions were appreciated and helped me build the confidence needed to handle my firearm, and I left the class proud of myself. While not ready for the Tactical 1 Class, I will definitely do the Basic Class again. I highly recommend 4G Tactical Firearms and Security Training classes to any/everyone. read more
