The produce is super fresh, meat is high quality and a good price, and because of their partnership with a number of local farms they have a really great selection. I was very impressed with the quality and volume of everything that I got, especially compared to how affordable it is. I love that 4P Foods has made the process of getting food via CSA so easy and convenient. You can get local veggies, meat, dairy, and pantry items for a really good price, no more than you would pay at the grocery store, and I feel great knowing that I am supporting local farms. It's really easy to put in my order, select what I want each Saturday and then just sit back and wait for my delivery. I also love the recipes that they send for ideas on dishes to make. The delivery is made to my front door, which is huge considering that I live in an apartment. I have definitely recommended to all of my friends! read more

I just received my second single box and could not be more excited. The fruit arrived around the same time both weeks, with clear text and email communication in the delivery timeline. My pint of blueberries arrived fully crushed and I reach out to the team to see what they could do. And within minutes, I had a response from my initial point of contact and the customer care associate. 4p foods has been such a bright spot during a time in our country where systemic racism continues to impact many Black people and other marginalized communities. Participating in a sustainable food source and cooking a plant-based diet are ways that I am resisting the impact of capitalism on black bodies. I would love to see more foods sourced from black owned farms in the region. read more

I started using their meat share and finally started cooking regularly again for the first time since having our almost 2 year old daughter. She now helps me prep dinner, like when she seasoned one of their salmon fillets "by herself" last night (aka under my close supervision). Added bonus is that we're supporting local farmers, not buying Big Ag meat, etc. So here's why this is a 5 Star review: she actually ATE THE FILLET after we baked it. My frozen pizza/chicken nugget eating toddler ate the baked salmon fillet without ketchup, cheese, or anything else but some salt, pepper, garlic and ginger powder. 4P Foods is glorious - GLORIOUS! We've been subscribed to their protein share and their veggie share for about a year now. We love it. I did a veggie share long ago in Boston, and it was such a bummer: in the winter, we got a giant plastic box filled with 1 banana, 1 turnip, a bunch of potatoes and an onion. Oh noez. 4P Foods, on the other hand... well, part of it is the good luck of geography: mid-Atlantic farming is much more bountiful than frigid New England tundras. But they're also just great! They have way more variety, way more flexibility (you can skip weeks, swap items, etc), and are super responsive (thanks, Bonnie, for always being on email!). Admin: - They deliver weekly. - They deliver to us quite early (8am-ish), and text us when the box has arrived. Lately, there's been a technical glitch where the text comes at 5am or so - I've been in touch with them about it, and it's apparently affecting a few customers. I honestly don't care that much, since delivery is always quite predictable (always around 8am). - It's super easy to skip weeks (even multiple weeks on end) as a subscriber. (We haven't tried cancelling.) You can do this all online. If you change your mind, you can then un-skip. - It's also super easy to swap out items. For example, my husband is allergic to fish - so we can easily swap out the salmon for a meat, if we want. - They deliver veggies in a soft, green bag. Meats come frozen in a cardboard box with, inside, insulating padding. They ask that you return these during their next visit. Sometimes we've forgotten, and sometimes it's a pain to accumulate more than 1 box (it's pretty big), but that's a small price to pay for the food! Food: - Meat - Thanks to 4P Foods, I've got to experience cooking and eating all sorts of new meats (for me): pork chops, lamb chops, ground bison, chorizo sausages. The meat has always been incredibly tasty and good. It also feels great (or, at least, RELIEVING) to opt out of industrial meat production (unethical and problematic as it is). Once, when I was happily munching on some pork sausages, I googled the farm they came from and learned all about the farm's history, owners, philosophy: I loved that! - Veggies - The veggie share actually includes swaps for stuff like jams, honeys, sauerkrauts, granola, and juices. This is super useful if, for one week, you just don't want any greens and feel cheeky/lazy and want some JUICE or PEANUT BUTTER instead. Everything has been great: now that it's summer, we're also getting a bounty of summer fruits each week (crisp, perfectly ripe blueberries last week, also aromatic and perfect peaches). - You can add on an egg share to the meat (and dairy, I believe) share: these come from Whiffletree Farm, which also sends meats, and they're always great. Oh yeah, there's a dairy share too! We haven't signed up for this, but I've been VERY TEMPTED for the past few months, honestly. IIRC, it's $35 for the veggie share and $55 for the meat share. For our household, we normally do about 2-3 weeks of veggie share, per month, and 1 meat share per month. This is more than enough for us (the meat share usually includes about 5-7 lbs of meat, I think, this lasts us 2-3 weeks comfortably). read more

I love 4P Foods! The staff are friendly and the produce is amazing! My husband and I get a small bag every other week. It pushes us to eat local and fresh and to try new produce that we would have never experimented with before! One thing that's unique about 4P is that they provide recipes in your email for all of the produce and they often explain the more unique items in that email as well. I have a lot of friends who have tried CSAs and don't know what to do with their veggies or even what the names of the veggies are. 4P does a great job of explaining the produce so you can actually cook with it. We LOVE 4P Foods! My boyfriend and I signed up for the small share two weeks ago and couldn't be happier. The fruits and vegetables are always ripe and delicious. We also love experimenting with some of the items we've never cooked with ourselves before like okra, fennel and squash. The weekly newsletter always has inspiring ideas and recipes with how to use each item in the share. I was also shocked by how much we got in our share and at such a great price. Plus, it feels good to be supporting local farmers! We are so glad we decided to join 4P - the produce is great, priced well and the company does a great job of keeping us informed (with recipes, about the farms they partner with and with events). Perks: - great delivery service, on time, they text you when they are close by - super customizable, can skip weeks too - website is finally functional (thank you!) - interesting selection of items - add on select items from the protein, pantry, and produce section to your order I signed up in September for a small produce bag, dairy bag (which I skip occasionally) and half dozen eggs (there's two of us, and we cook a lot - this is a great setup for us). 4p is very responsive in terms of customer service. My issue is that food oftentimes spoils before the next delivery comes, even when properly stored in the green bags they provide - I once got a half and half carton whose "sell by date" was just a week from my delivery time - there'sno way that I, the only fatty dairy drinker in this house, can go through a pint of half and half that fast (customer service said it must have been an error in moving inventory, and credited my account). Sometimes with non-local things (like the oranges that came in my last bag) it's a real wild card - those oranges were inedibly unripe. Beyond the inconvenience of mistakes and inconsistent quality, what rubs me the wrong way is that I can't adapt - sometimes when I've gotten something that went rotten unexpectedly quickly, I don't know what to avoid because I don't know the supplying farms and who sends which item. When I've sent complaints, they have gladly refunded the item cost, but what I assume from at CSA that's locally focused on organics is that you get the freshest stuff, which typically last longer than what you would get at the "organic" section at your local market. I'm torn whether to stay, because I really like their mission, or find another service. read more

I can't say enough good things about 4P! My boyfriend and I have been subscribed to their produce bags for over a year now, and we absolutely love it! Unlike most CSAs, 4P is extremely flexible. It allows you to switch out things you don't like and get more of the items you do. They also allow you to skip weeks, which we often do during the winter when there are fewer options. At $35 per "small" bag (which they recommend for 1-2 people), you definitely get your money's worth in terms of quantity and quality. Most of the items are organic, in addition to being locally grown. My boyfriend picks up the bag at his office (4P partners with a number of businesses in the DMV area), so I can't speak to their home delivery service. However, I strongly recommend 4P for its convenience and commitment to sustainability! read more

I am very disappointed in this service. After successfully delivering for 3 months, they rerouted their driver and cut my building off from delivery service. They knew my building was staffed from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. from my enrollment and changed their route without considering this limitation. Moreover, they provided insufficient notice when canceling my subscription. Their first contact regarding the cancellation was the day before an expected delivery, but apparently they changed their route four weeks beforehand. read more

I really enjoy 4P foods and I hope their customer base continually increases! They really try hard to deliver great food and service, and I have loved my experience with them. I get the small local produce share weekly and the local meat share monthly. What is so great about 4P is their variety, flexibility, and their excellent customer service. I have had other more "traditional" CSAs before, which were good, but I would literally get 3 heads of lettuce in one box for 4 weeks in a row. I know that is what is local and what is growing at the time, but honestly, that is simply too much lettuce and too many salads for me to consume! Sadly, produce like that would go to waste for me since I could not consume it quickly enough before it wilted and decomposed. With 4P, they do a great job of trying to give you a variety of fruits and vegetables, and during certain seasons won't inundate you with, say, lettuce or rhubarb (omigod, rhubarb - I made so many varieties of rhubarb desserts last year). And, since there is flexibility in what I get in my bag each week (you can log into your account and actually take out the lettuce or whatever produce from your week's bag and replace it with something else, if you so desire), I have not had to throw away any produce and I get some choice in what I am getting each week. Regarding the meat share, I don't eat much meat, but I enjoy cooking meat dishes occasionally. However, I always have a hard time finding more humanely raised meats, which is important to me, at the grocery store and I don't live near a Whole Foods or any place that sources meat that way. I only get the meat share about once a month and all of the meats come frozen, which is convenient because I can just chuck the meat in the freezer and use it from time to time. The meat share works the same way as the produce share - you can log into your account and add or delete what kinds of meat you want that week. There is always a variety of different beef, pork, and chicken (cuts, ground, sausage). I would say price-wise, it averages out to be about $10/lb for meat, which isn't cheap, but it isn't really expensive either. I think it is a very fair price to pay for a creature that was humanely raised, pastured, and slaughtered. 4P also volunteers to arrange visits to the farms where the meat is sourced, which very nice, transparent, and Portlandia of them. I have not yet met Colin the Chicken - and I don't know if I want to, but it is nice to have the option, haha. If you look at the cost per week, 4P (particularly for produce) is bit more expensive than traditional CSAs, however they only charge you by order, so you can skip any week's delivery any time. This is a huge perk for me and actually saves me money, as I travel often and I used to feel so guilty whenever I was not able to pick up previous years' CSA deliveries. They also deliver to many locations, which makes it very convenient. The day of my CSA delivery, I pick it up on my way home walking from the metro - I don't even go out of my way! My grocery shopping trips have also drastically reduced since subscribing to 4P and it is nice to know I am eating locally grown foods that are, mostly, organic. It perfectly appeals to me as a) I am very lazy and b) I am plagued with guilt about eating ethically (Thank you Michael Pollan, you've ruined me forever). Just kidding! I think it is very forward thinking to consider your food choices. Go with 4P foods! You won't regret it. I honestly have never been as happy with a CSA as I have been with 4P :) 4P4eva! read more

With my farmer's market closed for the winter, I was struggling to find a source of local produce -- none of grocery chains seem to carry much from local producers at all. Then I learned about 4P from my building -- a weekly produce bag is about the same price that i would spend on my weekly trip to the farmer's market, and it's so convenient to be able to just pick up my order from the front desk. Plus, now I can swap out items I don't like (like beets -- yuck!). And in their weekly newsletter, they really make an effort to introduce consumers to their producers. I love my produce share! They always provide such a nice verity of produce and products-makes it so fun and interesting. They make a point of trying to provide organic citrus from small farms (outside the area for weather reasons) which is great in the winter time! I love that they provide recipe ideas and of course it is such an added bonus that they donate a bag for every bag I buy. It is also such a great bonus to see what is in the upcoming weeks bag and to decide if you want it or not or to add a dairy or meat bag as well. I could not be happier with the service either, everyone is extremely friendly and check in once and I while to make sure I am satisfied. We've been receiving deliveries for the last few weeks and LOVE 4P Foods. We get the protein share and haven't purchased meat in the grocery store since. The bag contains the standards but also unique meats that you can't buy every day like lamb sausage and bison burgers. We are excited about the huge share of wings this week for the Super Bowl. Love it! The concept is great. They deliver fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers to my apartment building weekly. They make it so convenient to eat healthy and local. The deliveries have always been made on time and I love that you can skip bags as much as you want with no penalty. I have really enjoyed the extra items they throw in weekly like salad dressing, corn meal, and blood Mary mix! They also throw in special treats like passion poppers (mini kiwis) so good and sugar pumpkins! The variety is great. The team does a great job of being transparent and responsive as well. I've been subscribed to 4P Foods for about a year now, and it's the best CSA I've been a part of or heard of. The conveniences of getting deliveries right to my building, being told in advance what will be included in the bags each week, and skipping weeks whenever I need to (I almost never get through an entire bag within a week) are fantastic. I am so happy that I decided to sign up for 4P Foods produce bags! The quality and variety of the fruits and vegetables you get each week is great (their lettuce is some of the freshest I've seen in DC). I've enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and trying out awesome local products (the Dress It Up dressing that came in one of my bags is addicting!) It's made cooking fun, healthy, and creative. Their customer service, especially Bonnie, is super helpful and friendly. One of my weekly bags was missing beets, and when I emailed in to ask them about it, they immediately issued me a refund. I've been signed up for a month, and only skipped once because I still had tons leftover from the previous week.
