We called ahead because we were going to arrive late. The very nice (even by Canadian standards) gentleman helping me with our same day reservations, arranged to leave a site map on the back door of what would be a closed camp office. We arrived around 9:30 and one of the owners greeted us. We found the map that was left for us, the owner got us settled and even picked us up and delivered a bag of ice for our cooler. Our site was beautiful! The nearest tent camper was about 150ft away, we were steps away from a river inlet and had a choice of two areas with really wonderful bathrooms with showers and Laundry!!!! They even had an outdoor kitchen. As the sun went down we were eaten alive by bugs because of our proximity to the water so we spent a lovely evening in the tent. No complaints. We had a great nights sleep. The only noise during the night were bull frogs looking for love. The morning was beautiful and bug free. I met some nice campers while I enjoyed my Tim Hortons and had a leisurely pack up. Great place! Don't forget to ask the owner for a river tour in his aluminum skiff. I didn't have time to partake but for 5$, I should have made the time.

I understand there is new ownership and I'm not certain if they are in the process of renovating or upgrading but my experience was less than ideal. Pros: great views; large room; clean, comfortable mattress in main bedroom; nice linens Cons: I was in a second floor room (it is a motel style where you access your room directly from outside) and I had to carry my luggage up two flights of stairs with no offer of help from staff; the room had clearly been recently renovated but there were many items unfinished or poorly done (unfilled holes in floors where wiring had been run, obvious patching on walls, wrinkled wallpaper, broken blinds, wall mounted TV was both crooked and off centre); the door to the room was very difficult to open and close (sticking); I specifically ordered a room with a Murphy bed to accommodate another person - the bed had a very cheap / soft mattress and did not sit properly on the floor (it was slanted toward the footboard); although the room was a suite (separate sleeping and living areas) there was only a TV in the living area; the air conditioning unit was very loud and not terribly efficient; several burnt out / non operational lights (including in the shower) Overall there is great potential but the poor attention to detail impacts the experience significantly. The views from the room were amazing but the overall experience was not what I remember from my previous stay. With some cosmetic upgrades and greater attention to detail it could be a great resort. At this point in time I would not recommend for the price.

There are 2 options - connect in Toronto (which will get you into North Bay at 5pm at the earliest or latest since it's the only flight option for the day) or connect in Ottawa, which will get you into North Bay at 1pm at the earliest. I went with the Ottawa route and coincidentally was on the smallest plane I've ever been in with an airline I've never heard of - Bearskin. There were 2 pilots, one of them did the safety check in the cabin. As you can assume, there is no beverage service on the one hour flight. There were no other crew on the plane and no bathrooms. Once I arrived at the airport, I did see that they had a restaurant and a car rental place (National). I've heard that the car rental place is usually sold out, so it's pretty tough to get a car last minute. It sounded like it was tough getting one even with a reservation. I walked outside expecting to see some cabs at the taxi stand, but no such luck. That's probably why there's a dedicated phone inside the airport to calls the cab company to have someone pick you up. The dedicated black taxi phone is located across from National car rental booth. The service was pretty quick, they had someone there within 5 minutes.

They're available pretty much anytime, and are always happy to help (even if you're calling for the third time in a row because you can't figure out how to get the satelite TV working). Since I'm usually there about once a month, they know me on a first name basis. And even though it's a small inn, they always manage to find a room for me, even if I call them last minute. Although the decor isn't ultra modern, the rooms are always clean and tidy. They have free wi-fi and satelite TV. Each room has either a walk out "deck" or balcony; it doesn't matter if you're on the lower or upper level, because either way you'll have a gorgeous view of the water. One of my favourite touches is the heated floors in the bathroom...yeah that's right, HEATED FLOORS! Waking up on a chilly North Bay morning in February isn't quite so bad when you know you're not going to freeze your feet on the tiles :) Breakfast is no-frills, but also included in the price. The coffee is a little weak, but it's brewed every morning, and you can take your pick of fresh fruit and granola bars. To top it all off, the price for a regular room (two double beds) is only $79 / night! You really can't beat that.

And I'm assuming, to keep up with the demands of consumers as well as keeping up with the competition. I had new bedding, new furniture and that 'new hotel smell' which was most welcome. Not bad considering this was my first time staying at this particular location.
