On the rare occasion that I've interacted with the staff, they've been friendly and helpful! While the branch's Adult media lending portion is relatively small, that's OK since you can order online from NYPL's spectacular, vast collection to pick up here! Upstairs, while I haven't visited, there's a Children's section. The only real negative for this location is that talking and other noises from the Children's section reverberate throughout the downstairs non-Children's space. A 2nd Floor noise barrier between the space and stairs might help alleviate the regular sounds of constant tumult heard by 1st Floor patrons. Also, I've noted some people who bring kids to this 1st Floor section to do homework can be quite chatty and, while fantastic and I absolutely commend them for helping kids, it's not always at a volume respectful of others who come there to use the facilities - preferably in a silent atmosphere. On the whole, it's awesome that NYPL maintains this W. 115th St. branch for the community! Thank you, NYPL!

It's the classic architecture for libraries of the time it opened in 1908. This library is a nice walk from my apartment. The layout of reading material is by floor so you navigate upward for age appropriate reading materials. Last time I was in the neighborhood I forgot to stop in. I'm definitely going to return when I'm in the neighborhood. I know you want to see photos. Here's a photo of the book that changed the food industry. Or has it? What a fun and unique library right next to Lincoln Center and the Julliard school. I had a very…read morepleasant experience during my visit. There was security at the entrance and it was easy to manage. On the lower levels of the library there is a very interesting magician exhibit, with real artifacts from Houdini, Kellar, and other notable magic performers. Such a fun spot to spend 30 minutes or so reading about the history of the magic community. The library even gave out free postcards at this exhibit. Cute! On a higher level of the library, you can make an appointment or walk in to watch, original tapings of musicals and movies. I did not do this during my visit, but my friend signed up to enjoy the original taping of Wicked in the future. Although they take walk-ins for this, it is best to make an appointment in advance in case they are busy.

This branch may be small in size but it has a strong presence to the visually impaired and to the public. Since childhood I always admire libraries for the tranquility and space for studying and working in solitude. Modern cushion chairs and lounge couches are ample available. Clean and welcoming environment. In the 2015 digital age era, sadly, no one value traditional libraries and books but I am unique and still patronize libraries. Information is power and knowledge is rooted in books. Come book worm hungry. From now until it is now again as my library card expiration of three year draws near, renewal was simple and quick. Note: NYPL library card is valid for three years which all library card holders must renew in person.

Harry (I think that was his name) guided me through the process of becoming a member, getting a card, getting it on an App on my cellphone so I didn't need to carry it around, etc. Nice to see that personal attention in busy NYC, that too by city employees! Like in many NYC facilities parking is hard to find here (including metered paid) and there's no library parking.

A ton of memories from my time long ago as a NYU student…read more Many, many days/nights and overnights spent at the lower levels of Bobst especially during the finals days before exams, projects, and papers. Life didn't seem that easy at the time but relative to what my life is now (mortgage, car payment, utility bills, etc,..) I would have much guidance for my younger self. Bobst always seemed to have enough places to hide and get away from everyone and everything. The walls of Bobst always did a great job of masking the chaos right across the street in Washington Square and elsewhere in NYC. That was always Bobst's greatest benefit, a place of solace in this great city which seems impossible. Back in my day, Bobst was also a place of knowledge but these days the Internet has probably taken on greatly some of that responsibility. A recent visit led me to revisit some memories, and aside from some minor alterations, the heart of Bobst still lives on.

You'll often see protests happening right inside the library, especially since the atrium is huge - very cool! There are no other nearby libraries that are open 24/7 for students, with security guards helping to find you a sleeping space @ LL-1 in case you needed it (check out near where the lockers/classrooms are @ LL-1). One of the guards would always announce over speaker "Good night" in 15 different languages and go out of his way to genuinely look out for every student's safety and wellbeing. Someday I will find these people and feed them some home-baked cookies as a thank you! Cons: - There is a TON of theft every day, so make sure to take your backpack/laptop with you wherever you go... even if you are leaving for 2 seconds to use the restroom. - Usually quite cold, so bring extra sweaters. - Stay away from the 8th and 9th floors, unless you wanna hear screaming couples getting busy in the individual rooms. - You might find dead bodies of huge flying cockroaches @ LL-1. - Sad that there were multiple suicides inside this building, but I'm glad that they were able to renovate the building with gates on all floors to be safer for all. In spite of the cons, I absolutely love this library and everyone in it! Will forever be grateful to have had the opportunity to fully experience the most beautiful place in the world.

They always have a pretty good rotating selection of staff picks, as well. Not only that, but this library offers so many amazing programs for the community, including movie nights, legal and tax help, ESL classes, homework help, college admissions counseling, and test prep for students; fitness classes, and game nights (just from what I've seen). They're such an important pillar of the Harlem community and bring so many amazing programs to the area, despite their (I'm sure) limited resources. Will always recommend. This library has a recurring collection of in person services and events, as well as a nice collection of different media in the building to be checked out or used on site. The teen and children's areas on upper floors are really nice for those who choose the library as their "third space" away from school or home. Lots of second language and ESL style support for the community here as well.

I go to the library every week and I think more people should take advantage to one of the greatest things about living in this amazing city. The NYPL truly is a wonderful organization. The only bummer is the hours and that they're aren't open Sundays.
