It's also a series of gas stations all over the region, which often have slightly cheaper gas that the competitors, and that proved to be the case here. Open in the wee hours, KF always likes to remind me that if I had kept driving a little bit, I'd have spent 3 cents less, or 5 cents less per gallon. And I somehow tell myself that even though I only put 5 gallons in my tank, that 25 cents somehow would have made all the difference, changed my life, and I'd now be hosting the Jay Leno show. Except that I don't know if it could be called that if I was hosting it. And I think he retired. But never mind. Even though it's not a multi-national chain like 7 Eleven, the convenience store stuff inside is still pricey, but the service is friendly (maybe Lancaster is just a friendly f***ing place, or something), and a 3 is about right.

This store is definitely a throw-back to my 80s youth, including a candy aisle with 25-cent boxes of Lemonheads, Red Hots, Boston Baked Beans, and more. It was early, so coffee was a must. The hot coffee here is drip-coffee prepared one pot at a time. My cup from the full pot that was sitting there was just okay, but for $1.25 for a large, can't complain. We purchased my coffee, three cold drinks, and a variety of seven or eight snacks (chips, cookies, nuts, a Cliff Bar, etc.) for about $23. Not too bad in this day and age. The cashier who checked us out was very friendly. Checking out, she hand-typed in each item into an throw-back cash register, with the chunky keys that make that satisfying chunky-key-plunk-sound. And then when I paid with my card, the old-school credit card machine came complete with that old-school dial-up screechy sound to process the payment. For a place to grab reasonably priced convenient store drinks and snacks, this Convenient Food Mart was a good, and nostalgic experience for me! :-)

There was a man asking for help at the deli, I waited for him to finish in the line. The woman tells me to come to the counter. So I do, there's a 10 dollars minimum for card so I quickly start looking for other things to add. She looks at me and goes honey I don't have all day I have to help that man. It took me 10-15 seconds to grab a candy bar. I put it on the counter she then adds in the mans food onto my order. I said no we're not together. She goes you put this soda here, I said no I put the juices and the candy bar here. She goes I thought this would be quicker and takes my card acting like for some reason I was the rude one. You can get an excellent sandwich with egg, cheese, and either ham, sausage, or bacon on a kaiser roll for $4. The sandwiches were $3 for the longest time but finally had to go up in price. The sandwiches are very good. They are always offered on week days and sometimes on the weekend, but not always on the weekend. Be sure to get there early if you want bacon because they sell out quickly. Ham is not always available, but sausage is usually always there. Don't forget to sign up for the frequent customer card so you can get free food later.

CRACKER COATED PEANUTS…read more I found a new guilty pleasure in an unlikely place at this convenience store. 7-Eleven sells "Cracker Coated Peanuts" under their same brand. They're peanuts, obviously enough, but with a salty, crunchy cracker crust baked onto them. The flavor I got was sweet BBQ. These peanuts make eating regular peanuts the old fashion way seem foolish and ridiculous. Even Mother Nature looks like the idiot here: she covered peanuts in a bland, tasteless shell for millions of years that required us to crack open and discard, and in walks 7-Eleven with an astoundingly delicious improvement to her terrible design intended on keeping peanuts safe from frost and dirt. I kinda wonder what else could be covered in cracker coatings that we've been missing out on all these years... Bananas? Corn on the cob? Christmas presents?
