Besides it being held in a building which is older than the country (which is super cool), the games and seating provided, alongside the cool and funky artwork give people a very laid back cafe feel to play games, drink some coffee and relax. I got there 20 minutes after they opened and was the second person in line, 10 minutes later the line was almost out the door. This area in general is so woody and whimsical with a lot of different paths, antique stores and bookstores. The café itself is connected to an antique store and the seating is all refurbished antiques. The ambience and whimsy that this café brings gives me so much joy! The coffee and the donuts that they had were absolutely incredible. I had a hot tiramisu latte and I ended up getting six donuts for a Mother's Day celebration. The donuts were fluffy, steamy and freshly made. I usually am not a cooked fruit person, but the way that they incorporated the fruits in all of these pastries was absolutely divine. The coffee had the perfect balance of sweetness to the boldness of espresso. And with your drink sweet treats, you can take a walk around the little town and enjoy the weather and the scenery. 10/10 experience. I will be back here again to try their savory options and some other pastries!

They go super light on the milk. It was nothing super special. My cousin ordered the same coffee, and also some of the baked goods. The whipped cream donut was incredible. So were the filled donuts. Not boring, lots of filling, not dry. My uncle tried the Vietnamese coffee, he said it was okay. I really wish they had more food options. Im moving out of state soon, and have been curating a list of places I wanted to try before leaving. This spot was #1 on my list.

Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.

Thinking it was going to be very ordinary run of the mill shaved ice, we were pleasantly surprised. They literally shave this ice from a giant block on this neat spinning device, and hand make it start to finish. Adding the toppings sparingly, and precise to make it look as good as it tastes. It was extremely satisfying and most definitely 'refreshing' as we hoped. The ride home was filled with thought of eventually trying other flavors, and dreaming of that wonderful shaved ice. 5 Stars all the way and we can't wait to get more.

Unfortunately this place gets 2 stars for the quality of the tea. I ordered the taro milk tea with bubbles and without any extra sweeteners, and it was too sweet and very grainy. The mouthfeel of the tea was very off putting, even though I liked the texture of the bubbles. The matcha milk green tea wasn't grainy, but it wasn't anything special, in my opinion. Their other desserts may be better, but I don't think I would get the bubble tea again.
