Once upon a time, hanging out on Kamuning meant spending your student allowance on cheap beers at Millennia, a dingy bar that doubled as a billiard hall and gig place. Mind you, this was in the early part of the 00s, and I was still a student back then and couldn't really afford to hang out at swankier places (I was also really trying to be 'punk' at the time). While Millennia is long-gone, 77 Bar remains. It's a beautiful converted-house bar that houses a really intimate ambiance. Both indoor and outdoor seating options are great, and you can smoke both in and outside. I remember attending a college event at 77 Bar back in '06, where I met a boy that I would date for awhile. So it stands to reason that 77 Bar has a special place in my heart, even if that boy no longer does. Another great thing about 77 Bar is that they actually serve really good bar chow. Their Butter Chicken is a delicious artery-clogging mess, as are their pizzas - but what do you expect to eat when you're drunk on a night out?
If you're looking for an unpretentious place to hang out that doesn't require a stringent dress code or want to avoid places where pretentiousness is the order of the day, 77 Bar is a great place to hang out, and is definitely one of Quezon City's best open secrets. read more
