Close to Springfield, this is a great little mom-and-pop run business within a 30 minute drive of north Springfield. This is definitely a "don't judge a book by its cover," kind of place... what you see outside when you drive up is not what you get inside. Inside, the winery boasts Missouri wines from Missouri grapes, but it also has some very unique, tasty mead wines (not mead in a beer style). Though much of the selection leans semisweet to sweet, there are a few dry whites and reds, with a particularly good Norton that is matured in oak barrels. 6 tastings for free or 12 for $5 to include a free stemless glass. The website said "Open, live music 2-6 p.m.," so, based on that we made the 30 minute drive from Springfield to the place, hoping for the type of afternoon we have had a few times at other wineries: a nice little crowd, wine and song. Got there, didn't hear any music. . . and didn't see any people, for that matter. Checked one door--locked. Checked the next door--locked. Since the website said they were open, I called, asked if they were open, and was told the sign on the door said to ring the door bell if the door was locked. It didn't look like a high crime area, so I was a little puzzled by that. I will say that the woman behind the counter was obliging, told us about the wines, and let us sample a few. Feeling a little sheepish--and even a little intrusive--about being the only ones there, we got glasses of wine, rummaged through the too-sparse collection of table games, drank the wine, and left. One truck passed on the road the entire time. I can't give this place a high review, based on this bizarre, minimalistic experience as a customer, but I don't want to say it is bad, either. Big open space. Port a johns outside. Love music. Gift shop inside. Unique wine "bottles" because they're in bags. Wine bags also come in half bottle sizes. Taste about 5-6 wines for free. "Sweet" wines are not that sweet but good. The habanero wine was unique and delicious. Good flavor but can still enjoy your food. Very home small town feel where everyone know everyone. Smashing little winery out in the middle of the Ozarks! This great little gem sits in the rolling foothills along highway 123 and if there wasn't a sign to tell you it was there, you'd never even know about it. What a nice experience here -- 12 wines to taste for only $5! Half off if you check in with Yelp! :) haha.. shame AT&T fails for putting you about 2 miles away with the weak signal in the area (so you can't check in), but the idea is good. I know, you're thinking: how can they grow wine grapes here? Well, truth is, they can and they do, but not the varietals you're thinking. Think varietals like Vidal and Norton. Probably not ones you've heard of, and neither had I, until I visited. I was always told there are about 150+ varietals of grape in the world and probably even more, and now I've learned about 4 more here. The tasting room is right in the winery -- a nondescript building that serves as the winery, barrel room, tasting room and a nice little deli section with some cheeses and sausages. I think that my favourite wines here included the Norton and Vidal wines --- you'll have to forgive me, I did not take good notes. I do remember the Norton because it's the ONLY wine varietal that Missouri got Riedel to make a specific glass for the wine, and the ONLY Riedel glass to bear the varietal name. Yes, its a REAL Riedel glass! Come here and enjoy the wines -- and they also have mead, although I wasn't a fan of it, they do seem to like to make it here :) I won't go into a huge thing about mead, suffice it to say its wine made from honey. And you know how picky bees are, so the honey has a different flavour from whatever pollen's they are harvesting, and thus, so does the mead. Overall, nice place and I suppose it really gets crowded in the Spring and Summer up here -- it was a bit cold in the middle of Winter, but hey, my friend and I had the place to ourselves and could really enjoy taking our time through the tasting. So, if you're ever up in the Ozarks near Springfield MO and find yourself wanting a nice glass of wine, come and see this winery. You will probably be just as pleased as I was and enjoy a nice glass of wine as well. read more

If you are one of those scowl-y wine aficionados who only likes wines from France, Italy, the Napa Valley and the like, you likely should not bother with wineries in MO. If you are looking for something fun and have an open mind, be sure to stop and check things out. Was going to be near Springfield, MO for the day and went to springfieldmo.org, a Missouri travel and tourism site, for ideas on what to do and came across a couple breweries and wineries including 7Cs. Was able to get directions as well as found their website. We were able to find it with the help of those dark blue signs (which designate a tourist attraction) pointing the way at crucial intersections after exiting off of I-44. It is a pretty drive through pastureland and the road is paved most of the way. The road the winery is on is a little rough but you're only on it for a short distance. More troubling is the run down condition of the yard of their neighbors on the corner. There were a couple nice dogs to greet us when we arrived - very friendly. We were the only patrons there, though another couple arrived halfway through our tasting. We entered at the front of the building where there is a porch. We had planned on picnicking on site, but the weather was too cool - there was plenty of parking and plenty of space to picnic. The room we entered had a tasting bar to the right and various items for sale to the left - including honey, wine stoppers, bottle openers, t-shirts, wine charms and the like. We were pleasantly greeted by the woman behind the counter. We were permitted to taste 6 wines/meads for free, or 12 wines/meads for $5 and you get to keep the glass. Most MO wineries make primarily sweet wines. Currently this winery has 3 dry reds, 4 semi dry red and white, 4 semi sweet red and white, and 2 sweet red and white. They have six meads and an apple wine. We decided to try 12 wines/meads. Sadly they were out of the blackberry mead. One of the most interesting was a mead made with jalapenos. Could definitely see using that as a marinade or to serve in order liven up a cheese tray appetizer, but didn't purchase any this time around - perhaps next time. The woman told us about each wine as we tried it and provided crackers to cleanse the palette and water and 'dump' vases to rinse our glasses after each tasting. Also a list was provided describing each wine we were permitted to make notes upon. Sadly they were out of about four of the wines, but of the 12 we tried, we found two dry red wines and one mead that we liked. The Round Up Red and the Branding Iron Red. The RUR is made from St. Vincent grapes and the BIR is made from St. Vincent and Chambourcin grapes. We went with the Wildflower Mead. We asked about the vineyard and she said it was planted but just starting out and not yet mature. That they did not currently grow their own grapes, but rather purchased grapes from other local vineyards and then made the wine on site. Wines were priced under $15 with one at $20 a bottle. Meads were priced under $17 per bottle. Discounts for buying cases. Their wines are carried at a distributor or two but only in the Springfield area. We'll check out the other wineries in the area, but we'll be keeping this one on our list to make a return trip. read more

I have been to this winery several times for various events, and a couple of times just for tasting or picking up some wine for a gift or special occasion. Every time has been a pleasure! They always seem to have something new that they've made on the menu which keeps things interesting, but also plenty of favorites in stock. One unique thing that they offer is wine in bags, which is really great if you're going on a float trip where you can't have glass on the river! Included inside the winery is a nice little gift shop with plenty of unique little items. The owners are such wonderful people! Always pleasant every time I've been there. This past weekend, we were at a wedding there and they could not have been more accommodating and helpful. They have a fantastic outdoor space to enjoy all sorts of events, and I also learned recently that they sometimes even have people camp on the property!
