Marva's background living in Italy made her a great option for us. -Original recipes for menu choices: Marva gave us tons of great options for our menu that were unique and familiar at the same time (polenta lasagna, spinach and feta stuffed chicken, a red pepper dip my husband is obsessed with) so I felt that our menu was unique but not so out there that guests didn't know what the choices were. -Cooks from scratch: I love that Marva's cooking is all from scratch and she doesn't use fake flavorings or cheap alternative (e.g., sometimes Italian wedding cookies are made with almond flavor instead of actual almond meal and it makes a HUGE difference - Marva goes through the expense of using real almonds and it's so good!). -Didn't need to hire separate appetizer/dessert caterer: Marva really simplified my wedding planning by taking on ALL of our food - charcuterie for cocktail hour, all dinner courses, and dessert. She catered our cocktail hour, dinner, and dessert for an amazing price. I don't see how I could have beat the price if I did the cooking myself. -Lovely person: Marva got the job done, but she was also so friendly along the way. Marva is the most amazing person to work with. I had her cater my 40th birthday party just last week at a Disneyland hotel in Anaheim. She came with all of the food in separate aluminum foil trays, carefully packaged in kept in a temperature-controlled bag. She had everything organized, which is why set-up took less than 5 minutes. As for the food, it was divine. My guests were raving about her meat lasagna, and even the most carnivorous in the bunch loved her vegetarian lasagna. (My son to this day doesn't know that it had vegetables!) For sure, even the pickiest eaters will like one of her dishes. Her desserts were nothing short of exquisite. She made these bite-sized tarts with a sweet lemony custard and fruit in the middle, as well as chocolate. But my favorite was her chocolate and walnut shortbread --- it is crumbly at the bottom, but the chocolate ganache on the top is not too sweet but creamy and has that lovely mouthfeel. She will work with you around your budget limitations, and even if I told her 40 people were coming, she made sure there was extra to go around, in case people were ravenous. :) Generous and honest to a fault, she even drove to my home to give me back the money I gave to her to use for parking (since it was charged to my hotel room). I spoke with Marva regarding my situation and she provided me with a list of catering options she was able to provide. Marva helped me figure out what would be best for my guests. We had Marva cater at our intimate wedding reception in Twin Peaks this last weekend and the weather forecast said that there's going to be a snow storm all weekend. The weather condition got so bad that she could not drive anymore with her car. We had someone pick her up with a 4x4, and Marva kept in communication the entire time and tried her best to make sure she gets here with the food and have everyone fed. I asked Marva to prepare a surf and turf meal for me and my daughter for a special occasion. It wasn't cheap. I was Greatly Disappointed in the presentation. There was none. I expected personal chef services but I think Marva is more prone to catering. Service of food and dishes wasn't professional. Hi All, I used Marva and her catering for my xmas eve party, and let me say that it impressed everyone. Firstly everything she cooked was really good, but really what was the best is that she has tons of options to choose from so you can create the perfect meal for people. I had a few people that were vegetarian, so we did a mix of veggie dishes and meat dishes and the veggie lasagna she made was a huge hit. Also the chicken with the lemon and capers was a HUGE hit, everyone loved that. And then to top it all off, when I bought out the homemade Tiramisu that she made at the end everyone fell off their chairs. I had some people here that have made homemade Tiramisu and even they said this was a top notch dessert. But all throughout, she was very helpful accommodating this bridezilla and her coocoordinator. I tasted Marva's catering at a party and immediately hired her to cater two events. One was a dessert event featuring her fruit custard tarts and chocolate tarts. These were delivered to our arranged location on time and arranged beautifully in 4 large trays (approx 280 tarts). The crowd ate them up so fast, there were none left for me! The second event was a dinner party for my daughter's first communion. We ordered the meat and vegetarian lasagna, California orange salad, dessert tarts as described above, vegetarian stuffed mushrooms. All items were made from scratch and a big hit with our 20 or so guests (including kids). Marva arrived on time and set up all the food. Everything was included such as sturdy paper plates, napkins, clear plastic cups, utensils, serving spoons, tongs, and spatulas. Marva (the chef) listened to exactly what I wanted and everything turned out perfectly! She is super nice and professional. The Vegetarian lasagna reminded me of the texture of baked mac n cheese with an awesome crust atop and layers of complimentary flavors that burst in your mouth. She was professional but still friendly and it felt as if it was family member cooking dinner for us. She cooked us a 4 course meal beginning with Bruschetta and meatballs with marinara followed by a California salad. For the third course she made a wild mushroom risotto paired with a lemon chicken in a white wine sauce and focaccia. For desert she made lemon bars and cheese cake. Marva was amazing, kind, friendly and a joy to work with from start to finish. Her assistants were great too. And then there is her food. Everyone loved it! My personal favorite was her bruschetta with crustini. It is the best I have ever had. We also served her roasted red pepper spread with vegetables for appetizers. For dinner we had her fabulous strawberry summer salad with 2 kinds of pasta and homemade focaccia bread. Everything was so delicious. We had more than enough of everything for all our guests and Marva and her assistants worked joyfully and tirelessly to get everything set out, served and cleaned up.
