They went through all the pros and cons of material and construction options with me so I could make the best decision for my needs and budget. They also provided written documentation of how they were going to do everything - details on how the support posts would be set, on the structure, and on the deck boards, etc, many of which were beyond what the local building code requires. And then they were able to deliver on what they said they would do. The new support structure for my deck is rock solid, I swear I could park a truck on it. Good communication with me throughout the entire process. And the finished product is beautiful. I went with a composite deck material. While not the least expensive quote that I had, they were competitive. I went with them because I wanted it done right and last many years, and I fee that they were able to give me that.

To be fair, the deck looks nice, but the process of getting there was rough. The experience started out great. Our sales rep, Tyler was a pro and the sales material he provided were super polished. We ended up choosing this company because of their promises about not cutting corners and extra details like the use of ground screws vs posts, joist tape, stainless steel fastener, etc. Unfortunately, after signing the contract and the initial email with all the alleged contact info, for all the necessary parties, the problems started. We were out of town when they started the job, but immediately upon arriving, we notice that the failed to lay down the commercial weed barrier under the footprint of the deck. Frankly, i would not have even noticed, but for the fact that giant weed was growing out of the gravel they laid down. Moreover, the gravel they did lay down was super uneven and they left giant holes where the posts I removed were located. To be fair, I did the demo myself, but they supposed came out earlier to check on the site and they made no mention about filling in the holes where the posts were. More annoyingly, when I called them on the lack of the contracted weed barrier, Jason, our PM, tried to convince me that it was not necessary. I immediately, mentioned the weed I saw that brought my attention to issue. Moreover, his attitude was dismissive and patronizing. Next, when the framing started in earnest, I was surprised that they sent out a single guy named Dan to build the entire deck by himself. Dan was a total pro, but with how nice the operation presented itself, and the size of some of the boards, you would expect at least a two man crew. Also, early on, it seemed pretty clear that the crew that installed the ground screws, had limited communication with the guy who was actually building the deck. After the first day, it turned out the several ground screws needed to be reinstalled and they ended up leaving at least two in the ground without capping or covering. Even after reinstalling the screws, it would later turn out that a few of them were not plumb, which would create issues later on. Finally, after the framing was completed, it turned out that the space between the joist were a foot too wide so they failed the city inspection. In the end, they had to rip off the entire top of the frame and redo it. Moreover there were about a dozen 2x6's with huge nails were left on my drive way for several weeks. Once the frame got approved, the Trex went on pretty quick, but likely because of the delays, several fasteners were missed, the bench boards were crooked. More glaringly, they failed install the promised structural screws that fastened the joists to the frame (despite promises to do the same) In fact, we had one joist, (the one where they had to reinstall the ground screw, where the the frame was basically floating over it. Also, with one of the ground screws not being plumb, the joist was not sitting flush on the footing, More annoyingly, when we initially brought up these issues to CDC, they first mentioned how they had new processes to avoid these issues in the future. Little good that would do me. Next, they mention the "lifetime guarantee," but why not get the job done the first time? In the end they ended up putting shims to fill in the space. Here's hoping no issues will come up, because reaching people was also a bit of chore. Final gripe, the job site was a disaster for the several weeks it took for them to finish the job, tags were left on lumber, despite the job starting in July, we still have unused Trex sitting on my driveway. Also, the Bagster (rather than a dumpster) they left on my drive was was left on my lawn as well. I had to personally move it to save my grass. Overall a rough experience and a company that I cannot recommend.

After discussing the pros and con's and taking into consideration that the aft curtain would need to be replaced soon, we decided to go all new. Al was booked up with work at the time so he could not start on our job immediately, but he did take the time to do some repairs for us to get us by. We have our new canvas now and the job was top-notch. The fit and finish was excellent and and a nice surprise was to see that areas that are traditionally problematic were reenforced and he also took the time to arrange the frame to maximize the headroom. Just a great job. We also had Al install a NuTeak floor in the salon over winter and just like the canvas, a fantastic job was done here as well. Again the fit and finish was just incredible as was the care he took in masking off the interior during the more dusty phases of the job. Side notes: During the floor redo, the refrigerator door had to be removed and at this point Al must have noticed the handle to the freezer compartment was broken off. Without being asked, he fashioned a replacement. Sometime before we owned the boat, one of the dinette table pole mounts on the floor had the side broke out of it. It was still totally functional but ugly looking. Again, without being asked, Al swapped that mount out with one on the bottom of the table to get it out of sight. Just another instance of Al going the extra mile. Thanks Again Al

On top of that, it had been covered in a solid stain and I wanted to bring back the natural wood grain if possible. I had one contractor come by, and they refused to quote the job, as it would be too large for their crew. The next contractor that came gave me a quote, but it was clear he didn't want to sand and strip the deck, rather preferring to just wash it and put a fresh coat on. I didn't get a good feeling about the attention to detail they would provide. Then Jim from Grand Reflection came out. He's the owner. He's the estimator. He's the lead worker. He explained all of my options and was very honest about the pros and cons to each. He didn't try to sell me the easy solution, but he didn't push the most expensive either. His communication via phone and email was impeccable. He arrived at the times he said he would arrive. If the weather was bad, I got an email or text letting me know it wasn't a good day to work on the deck, and he let me know when he expected to return. Once the contract was signed, nothing changed. His crew of two (he and one other gentleman) came daily. They arrived early and worked late. It was a two week job and he was on site for the full shift each and every day. Jim obviously takes a ton of pride in his craftsmanship. The work itself was tedious and back breaking. No detail was sacrificed. Each board needed sanded. He worked in between the boards with hand tools. Screws and nails needed sunk. He prepped and stained all visible surfaces, and the undersides, and hidden nooks and corners that nobody will ever see! When you care for the areas nobody sees, you are a class act. We are absolutely thrilled with our major deck rehab and restoration and I consider it the pride of our home.
