Reyna is truly exceptional. As a physician, I had good knowledge about the medical elements of labor and delivery, however I hired Reyna hoping for emotional and spiritual support during the process. Not only did she provide this and meet all of my expectations, but she provided so much more. Reyna began meeting with me in person during my second trimester. She helped me and my husband determine our goals and priorities for delivery. She provided much emotional support during my second and third trimester and was available any time via text with questions that I had. She provided pre-natal massage and reading materials. She helped me prepare for the transition to motherhood. She provided resources about the care of the new mother in the first 40 days after childbirth especially with regards to nutrition. She helped use her native heritage to guide me in planning a variety of rituals for the birth of my child and also for his introduction to the different elements (water, fire, earth, air). When it came to the delivery, we ended up having to schedule a c-section at the last minute. I mourned loosing the opportunity for a vaginal birth, and Reyna helped me through this process. I was so grateful to have her even if for a c-section. She was able to be there for my c-section even though it came a month before my due date. She helped calm my nerves the morning of surgery, and helped to re-focus my husband and I on positive energies and being present for the experience. She led a beautiful guided meditation for us before we went back to the operating room. She provided support to my large group of family members while they remained in the waiting room. After the birth of our child, she checked in on me frequently via phone while I remained in the hospital. When I returned home she paid us several home visits. She made sure I was recovering appropriately and caring for myself. On each visit she gave a wonderful long massage to myself and also one to my baby. My baby just loved her massage technique and was so calmed by her! She taught me how to perform infant massage and craniosacral massage which has proven to be so useful. For my first pregnancy, I was completely nervous with the thought of being in labor and the hospital protocols. I was researching all that I could to help make my pregnancy go as smooth as possible and for my baby to stay as healthy as possible. Now I never heard of a Doula until my friend who is studying to become a midwife told me about it and then with my own research, I knew this is what I desired to make pregnancy a magical experience. After all, you're only pregnant for your first time once! So grateful to have came across Reyna on my Doula hunt. I absolutely loved her and her holistic approach to pre natal and postpartum pregnancy. She was just what I was hoping for in a Doula. Respecting mine and my partners wishes and being completely supportive every step of the way. Having an answer or recommendation for any question or concern that we had. There for us any hour of the day, even at 3am when I started having contractions, I texted her and she responded so quick! I contacted her when I was 33 weeks in, being that I found out I was pregnant very late and finding out about Doulas about 30 weeks in.. I got to the hospital around 1:30pm and had baby boy at 7:19pm. She stayed with us the entire labor. Being the greatest support system and allowing my future midwife friend to shadow her and work alongside her. For my baby shower my sister surprised me with the news that she would provide a doula for my delivery, if I decided to have one. Her good friend Reyna was a doula and my sister trusted her and trusted the fact that I would have a better experience with her by my side. Reyna came over to our house on a Sunday afternoon to meet with my husband and I. My initial impression of Reyna was that her presence was instantly a calming one. During that first visit Reyna took the time to get to know us, our story, what we wanted for our child and for our delivery. She taught us about the delivery process and what our experience would be like at the hospital. She provided us with information that no one had told about us before, even having gone through birthing classes at our hospital. She showed us exercises and techniques that would help alleviate the burden on my back as my belly grew during the last months of pregnancy and during labor. This whole process incorporated my husband as an equal participant of the pregnancy and delivery. I'm sure that if he were to write his own testimonial he would talk about how much Reyna helped him be a present and equal partner in the entire process. After that first visit, my husband and I were convinced that we wanted Reyna to be a part of our delivery. We already felt more confident not only to take on labor, but to take on being parents. And so we took her advice, which was one of the key moments that changed the course of my delivery story for the better. We continued to labor in the comfort of our home for another day with Reyna by our side. The pain of the contractions was getting stronger and unbearable by my measure, but Reyna reassured me that I was strong enough and that my body was made for this. I know that if I would have went to the hospital I would have either been sent home, or taken in and had a much different story. We finally headed to the hospital at 12 pm on Sunday and when I arrived I was 4 cm dilated, just enough to be checked in. Reyna was instrumental at the hospital, providing a calming presence and being there for whatever we needed, but never overstepping. At one point I started to experience pain in my back during contractions, commonly referred to as "back labor," which was my breaking point. Reyna quickly started to administer cold compress on my back during contractions and helped my husband coach me through. Her knowledge and assistance made all of the difference and I know that if it were not for her, I would have asked for an epidural. My son Alexander Kamil was born at 12:57 am and I felt like I had transcended heaven and earth to bring him into the world, having felt every ounce of the pain that came along with it. I had never felt happier, stronger, and more capable of my abilities as a woman and a mother now. Reyna's support didn't end after delivery. A couple of days after we returned home from the hospital she visited to check in with us and on how I was feeling. She placed a belly wrap on me, which not only provided my mid-section with essential post partum support, but was a very comforting process. Being a procrastinator, I didn't decide to have a doula until about maybe my 35th week of pregnancy. Once I did, I interviewed many wonderful doulas and had basically made my decision, although I felt it may have been a bit hasty since I felt I was short on time. Afterwards my family and myself could tell that the shape of my belly did change and two days later my ultrasound result confirmed baby head is down. Moreover, Reyna's hands are magical as the massages she gave me were so soothing and healing. In later pregnancy, I had contractions come and go for several times and was able to reach out to Reyna via text message anytime. My active labor was super fast and by the time Reyna arrived at hospital baby was just born. But she help me with baby latching and stayed at my home overnight with my mom to make placenta capsules using the tools she brought. The second morning she drove to hospital with my mom and did belly binding and wonderful massages for me. I began working with Reyna towards the end of second trimester. My husband and I had two visits with her prior to our delivery date and she provided us with visual aides, reading material, and topics that my husband and I could talk about. Reyna also facilitated discussions between us on how to plan our return home and what kind of support we could ask our family for. Reyna provided exercises for me to do at home and some that my husband and I could due do together.   When it was time to go to the hospital, I called Reyna and she arrived within 20 minutes. My labor was 24 hours long and she was constantly present. Reyna and my husband worked together to help sooth me and relieve my back labor. I was able to go without pain medication my entire labor as I had planned. What was not planned was my daughter not properly entering my birth canal resulting in having to have a c-section. Reyna was our post partum doula after the birth of our first child and she is exceptional. For post partum care there is literally no comparison with other providers out there - Reyna is the best! She has extensive knowledge of early childhood development, always knew exactly what was going on with our baby, and offered caring, loving and intelligent approaches to our questions and concerns.
