After reading all the great reviews i called Richard to come out and look at some windows. After waiting an hour and a half waiting for him to arrive I called him and he then says he is unable to come out. Then says he texted me on a number that was certainly not mine. I understand things can come up but an "I'm sorry" for the now show or inconvenience of having to get home to wait for him for over an hour would have gone a long ways. In April 2021, we had over $3100 in glass replaced by Richard. One of the windows failed (fogged over) in 2023. I contacted Richard in Dec. 2023 and sent him pics showing the failure. I have reached out to him since and our window is still not replaced. He's sick, he never dealt with this supplier with a warranty issue, on and on. He never came out to see the defect, take a measurement, asked me to do the measurement for him. Four weeks go by and he tells me the glass is ordered. He's ill can't install it Jan 18, 2024. Jan. 24, ill again can't do the work. Jan. 26, his company sent the wrong glass,so he had to reorder. Jan. 31, he said his company just sent out the replacement. Feb. 9, appt. made and he canceled. Asked to reschedule. I had appts. the following week, so asked him to schedule me week of Feb. 16 thru Feb. 21. I never heard back from him yet and today is March 8, 2024. Find another glass company. Richard is not reliable. Thank god my neighbor across the street asked me about Richard and I told him to hire someone else. This is a huge shout out to Richard and A Better Window Repair. We have a house with windows from 1980 that we love. They have the dark aluminum frames and are single hung which open by sliding up. The internal springs and pulleys were starting to go out but I just couldn't bring myself to replace them. They are just really great windows. Rich came out for what I thought was going to be a repair. Turned out it was just to look at our sliding door and give a quote. We decided to replace the sliding screen door too even though the price seemed high to me. The old sliding screen was in ok shape. It needed new screen material and new rollers. He said the parts would be in in 10 or so days. I had to check in with him a couple of times and the rollers for the door took around three weeks. Unfortunately, the new screen door took 2 months to be ready to install. The new parts are in. The glass door slides very easy. The new, expensive screen door doesn't feel any more sturdy than the original we had. He said he would adjust it so it worked like new and while it slides well, the locking isn't so great. Also, the plastic lock handle on the new screen door is much more flimsy than the original door. The inside and outside pieces don't get screwed together, so it feels "floppy". If I had to do this again, I'd have him fix the glass door and take the original screen door in to a repair shop to get the screen material replaced and the wheel hardware replaced. It was disappointing to spend so much and wait so long for what we have. Yes, 1st world problem. :) Hope this helps someone else go into this with open eyes. Rich seemed like a nice guy. He did a great job of ordering glass that matched the tint in the other glass. While he was out, we had him replace the glass in an old single pane aluminum framed window. Again, great work. A note to all you DIYer's, like me, do not attempt this! Watching Rich take out the large old cracked single pane, made me realize I could have lost a body part. We had Richard come out and give us a quote on replacing the glass in 2 front windows. His price was competitive and we had decided to use him but when we mentioned the fact that we also had a leakage problem when heavy rains and high winds hit, he actually advised us to not get the glass replaced, but go with a full restoration. Our windows are old LikeIt models ( no longer in business ) and per Richard were poorly designed. If he just replaced the glass, they would still leak. Unfortunately, Richard does not do full window replacements so we had to go with another option. But the fact that he was honest with his recommendation, even though it meant lost business, tells you something about his integrity and professionalism. Needed my sliding glass door repaired, I was guessing something simple like replacing the wheels. Tried myself, but could not get the door to clear the frame. Called all the big names and I was informed it would be weeks for an estimate appointment and then even longer for the work to be done. One company did manage to come out and suggested a whole new sliding glass door, permitting, stucco repair work afterward, and painting. Hmmmm - no. Well, weeks later I was at a red light and I noticed Richard's truck in the cross traffic. I contacted him to take a look. He arrived at my home stated the wheel assemblies needed to be replaced. He apologized that the fee would be a bit more as he would have to remove the glass due to the lack of clearance. Long story short - my door slides effortlessly now.
