This is a must stop when in Houghton! I wish I had this building attached to my house! What a fantastic collection of specimens, not only from nearby but around the world. Nice gift shop too. Kids would be impressed. Plan on 1 1/2 hours to enjoy. read more

This place contains such a treasure one day is not enough to take it in. I visit every year and never tire of the place. Such an infinity of colors and shapes! Much of the collection comes from the Great Lakes area, and the museum does a goof job of putting everything in context. The gift store is first rate as well. It is worth a day trip to Houghton just to visit this museum. read more

If You enjoy seeing geological rocks this place will dazzle you. Specimens are arranged and displayed clearly and there is so many to see. Do not skip the fluorescent rocks. It was wonderful. There are also many different choices to make if you like getting a souvenir from the gift shop. read more

Covid cops work at this place. I wore a mask but apparently was wearing it to their standards. Person was rude. Turned around and left. Never have have I been treated so poorly. Don't go here. read more

Perfect for a rainy day. Lots to see and really awesome if you're into rocks and crystals. Make sure you allow plenty of time to see everything. Somewhat dark but enough lighting to make taking pictures of things behind glass nearly impossible without glare. The fluorescent exhibit was really awesome! I also enjoyed the mining and gemstones sections. The gift shop was neat but somewhat pricey. I didn't appreciate the first staff member I encountered but the one that was there when I left was very nice. I do feel that the staff should perhaps be more knowledgeable on other offerings in the area in addition to their museum specifically regarding copper and iron which I understand to at least at one time to have been very important for the UP. read more

This place is like heaven on earth for a rock and mineral lover. The collection is absolutely breath-taking. The front also has some very reasonably priced pieces for sale. I am so glad I am going to be living in Houghton in a few months. Will definitely be making the trip back there. read more
