The compulsory insurance in PR are one of the closest activities that I can think as a picture of a…read moreState fraud. Due to the fact that it's compulsory anyone that has a vehicle has to pay this insurance every year. The insurance is extremely peculiar. It's not your insurance that cover your accident, if you are the one without responsibility, but the other vehicle insurance and it cover only up to 4,500$ Whit this introduction is pretty clear that just by itself the insurance has a ridiculous low outcome to pay any accident happened and everybody has to pay them. It's already clear that the insurance company, right now are about 12 that are authorized, had a huge profit doing this kind of insurance joke. Then if you have an accident you can find out really how they get dirty in order to maximize the gain and destroy you. First. You have to understand and be capable to speak with them. I spend just for the first time 1 hour and 40 minutes waiting after the first 2 call was disconnected. You have to have a police report, that you have to collect in person at the cop station, and you have to pay with sate stamps. You have to have the fault driver call them. You have to have one of their mechanics to inspect your car and you have to take the car to them. I put a very long story short. If you don't compelled one of the previous request, you will be not capable to receive the payment. If you receive the payment it will be 50% of what they have to pay. It's just your fault if you cash the check. They they evaluate your car with the blue book or some other crappy instrument that it's maybe ok with the US market but not for sure for Puerto Rico. After all this crap you can maybe have a second check to fill the amount to repair the car, if you accept 60% of the value of your car if you don't want to surrender it when the value of your car is evaluated by them and you can't complain. My personal case. I was it from a drunk driver that burn a red light. I have a used car buy in a car dealer for 4.000 $ a very good price compare to the car in the island actually sold for the same amount of money. Perfect condition. I have to move the car from the street. Tow service is not cover by the insurance. Take the insurance to teir mechanic. Home visit is offer by the insurance but the mechanic refuse to come! Tow service again not included. 2.800$ repair quotation by teir mechanic. 2 weeks after the insurance didn't release any approval to fix the car or any check. If you have to go to work you are already screw and you are suffering big problem for your freedom to move and other. Service car or rental car is not cover by the insurance or offered. Then the mechanic offers to fix your car and you will collect later the money from the insurance (I already know that it was a criminal cartel made to frode the people in order to cash more money is possible for the mechanic and the insurance). So, I refuse. I just patch up the car (500.00$ work done by another mechanic) jut to have the car possible to be driven. Then punding on the insurance phone to know what the hell happen. Insurance send without notice 500.00 check. I went at the first office then to understand. It was my payment. Then I complain. When the inspector told me that my car was work 1.600$ I laugh at her face and call her loan shark. I asked her where to find my car at that price... you can't even fine the engine for that price. Then I was enjoying the very criminal nature of the insurance employee that of course are following the criminal policy of the insurance. I refuse. Then they offer me 60% of 1600 or 1600$ if I would surrender my vehicle. At that point I called the insurance 12 time, been at their office 4 times, been called by the inspector twice and was already 2 month the time lost for this money. I see the clear fraud behind this system. The insurance will barely pay half the cost of any accident and never more than 4.500$ they will hope you can mess up and accept even half of that charity and or you get screw up by their mechanic too if you were capable to collect all the document without losing your job. Of course, you could take them at the court and pay your own attorney in order to get paid... and of course I believe that the percentage of this people are very lean. Because you will pay more that you will get. This is Puerto Rico, enjoy the real lair of corruption and citizen robber.

Driving in St. Thomas is like rolling the dice, you really are taking a chance. You may get to…read moreyour destination or may not. With landslides, falling rocks when it rains, crazy rude drivers, tourists that don't remember to stay on the left side of the road, a plethora of pot holes, malfunctioning traffic lights (that the territory doesn't care to fix timely) and drivers that can't seem to stay between two lines, odds are you will get into an accident out here or damage your car. I've driven all over the East Coast in winter storms, and never got into an accident. I've never been in an accident ever period. But here, it only took a month for an impatient driver that wanted to pass another car in oncoming traffic, to swerve into my lane and take out my passenger side mirror. The point my friends is get good insurance. Insure yourselves as much as possible on this island. We use Family Insurance Agency for our car insurance. Aretha our agent, was just so responsive and amazing in helping us get a quote and then get us through the process of obtaining insurance. Being fast in responses via email is not an easy find on this island and I always got a response from Aretha in a few hours. She definitely operates at stateside speed! We started working with Aretha in January and didn't finalize everything until April. Family Insurance Agency is one of the only insurance companies that could insure our car make and insure it to the extent that we wanted. In addition to that they use Lloyds of London as underwriters, whereas all of the other companies we reached out to were using no name companies. Their office building is also very nice, with plenty of parking out front. Instructions that we received to get there are typical islands instructions, with "go back past the hospital and it's the second new building," needless to say we got lost getting there, but its located on the road behind the hospital in town. The address listed on google is their old address, so make sure you go to their Royal Palm Office Center location. One of the strange things about purchasing car insurance in USVI is that you need to purchase a years' worth up front. They don't charge you on a per month basis like stateside, however, Family Insurance Agency, offers a financing plan with an interest rate, but we didn't find out of what that rate was. Make sure you have insurance before your car is ready to clear customs, otherwise it will not leave the docks. It sucks to spend your hard earned $$ on car insurance, especially to give it all away up front, but I can't tell you of how important it is out here in the wild wild jungle of driving craziness!

Wholly unethical and utterly incompetent. I have no words for how disappointed I am with Seaglass…read moreafter today. They breach their agency relationships right off the bat and it's honestly pretty shocking how they work contrary to whom they represent. Was just called by one of their agents (Amanda) regarding a property that I: 1) Had previously listed with them before, that they did not get a single offer for 2) Had an offer for from someone they represented via an agency (fiduciary) relationship I had listed the property by myself after it didn't sell with Seaglass and was bombarded with offers (lowered the price). I had already accepted an offer the day prior to Amanda calling me. When I pick up the phone, not 5 minutes later Amanda suggests that I raise the price while simultaneously letting me know that she has an offer in hand from a willing buyer. This is a breach of fiduciary responsibility- her role should be to get her buyer the best price possible since she's literally their agent. It makes me sick knowing they 'represented me' for a year that their agents don't give the slightest damn about their clients. Will probably be reporting this to VI Board or Realtors but I would suggest steering clear of working with Seaglass until they get their agents' ethics in line with basic legal requirements.

Within 5 days I was settled and had all the key contacts on the island. I immediately started looking for the house for sale for the next 4 years of my time on the island. Jeff found a perfect property for my needs. He directed me to all the right people so I could get mortgage, inspection and other stuff out of the way.
