We had struggled with the…read moredecision a lot because of the cost, but ultimately made up our mind after researching the positive effect the presence of a doula has on desired birth outcomes. We had an incredibly positive experience and my husband and I have said many many times since then how grateful we are that made this choice. As soon as we hired them during pregnancy, much of the weight/stress/worry about childbirth was lifted. We had both a primary and backup doula, both of whom we got to know through zoom calls and in-person meetings. The fact that even if our primary doula was unavailable for any reason during our birth, we would still have a wonderful doula who we knew well and were comfortable with gave us so much peace of mind. They both came to our house during the third trimester to teach us tactics to use during early labor and birth, and to talk through any questions we had. Anytime I had a question during pregnancy, they were there to answer it and support us. When labor started and stopped before birth, I contacted our doula (Maria) who helped us interpret what was happening, when to remain at home, and when to go to the hospital. When I was told I needed to be induced for a medical reason at our last appointment, I was incredibly worried and anxious, but contact Maria and she helped me understand what was happening, that it was the correct choice to make, and was on her way to us right away. During birth, Maria was incredible. She has an absolute gift. She helped me stay calm and comfortable, suggested positions, helped me through each contraction with her calm and reassuring voice, encouraging me to relax my body, breathe through it, etc. To be honest, that description really downplays the effect this had on the birthing experience. I know that without Maria there, I would not have done anywhere near as well. Maria helped us decide if/when I wanted an epidural, and helped us stay calm through any complications. Maria worked beautifully with my husband, seeming to know when he needed a break, when I needed both of them, and when to let us have a moment together. After our daughter was born, Maria took pictures of us as a family enjoying golden hour, helped with first latch, and made sure I had anything I needed, even feeding me to make sure I regained some nourishment. She checked in on us after that day, and visited our house to check in on us and see how she could support us a week or two later. The bottom line: Pregnancy and birth were full of lots of decisions and choices, and in the moment they all seemed very important and impactful. But looking back, the single most important decision we made, the one that made the most difference, with the absolute best results, was hiring Doulas of Central PA. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

For example, I thought that I would get support from my doula during earlier labor at home, but then in the prebirth meeting learned that she would meet me at the hospital. After my birth, I exchanged a few text messages but didn't see my doula again, even though I thought that I was supposed to have a postbirth in-person visit. It gave me some peace of mind leading up to labor that I had an additional support person, but I don't think it was worth the cost.

They take really good care of me and see the true value of me . When patty put me in home care it made me feel so damn good . Someone finally got to see my true work ethic and isn't taking it for granted. If it wasn't for patty I'd be stuck in a shitty place ( my old job) she has changed my moods as well . At my old job I'd come home in a fuck everything mood now I'm like calm and collected . It hurts me knowing my other jobs took advantage of me but patti is fixing those holes and I appreciate it so much. She's brighten my future up in so many ways by letting me explore her business. I know what most people don't like about me ( it's not a big deal ) is the fact that I'm too quiet but I promise I'll open up more. The psychiatrist I worked with seemed more to be "filling a…read morequota" and "ticking boxes" than really listening or caring. We decided to try out a medication which I would later find out I was allergic to. When going off that, I asked for another medication I have been prescribed for 6+ years. He quickly refused (which I think was in fear of his reputation and job) and didn't offer much explanation. Very discouraging experience. They offered to refer me to someone who might be willing to prescribe the medication, but I made the decision to go off all medication and prioritize therapy. Not worth jumping through all the hoops these people set up for you. Especially when one day, they just decide you can't have it anymore :) Overall I found the intake process very easy, and communicating with my psychiatrist was not a problem. From a human perspective though, I think they care more about claiming your insurance money than your mental health. If you are in need of a locally practicing psychiatrist who can prescribe unscheduled medication for you, like antidepressants, this will probably work fine for you. If you have more serious medication needs I recommend looking elsewhere, as they will not take you seriously.

I have Type II Diabetes, and my PCP told me that I could get Podiatry services every 3 months…read morethrough Medicare. I had thought that Penn State Health accepted Medicare for full payment for services at this clinic. Wrong. I went to a Podiatrist to have my toe nails cut and requested Topical medication to cure toe nail fungus. The Doctor was great and addressed my medical needs. She spent about 20 minutes with me and had a prescription called in to my Pharmacy. Several Weeks later I get a bill for $359 for her services. Medicare covered $244 and I got a bill for $114.00. I went to their office and asked if I could get installment payments. I am living on Social Security. They told me to contact their Hershey office about payments. The woman that took my call at Hershey said that if the amount is under $200 they don't ACCEPT installment payments. She sent me some forms to fill out requesting to have my balance written off by Penn State. The forms they sent me were ridiculous. They wanted me to mail them copies of my last 4 bank statements in addition to another bunch of BS. NO way i would do that instead of just sending them installment payments. My account numbers is none of their business. As far as I know, they MUST accept installment payments by law. So guess how much they are getting? Anything Penn State is a RIP OFF. From their tuition to parking, to anything Penn State, RIP OFF. Find a different Podiatrist and save yourself a headache. Penn State Health is for rich people.
