LAWRENCE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST! My story begins about ten days ago - Friday, 11/28, to be precise! A little background first: I have a top-of-the-line ($2400) gaming MSI, which I bought back in late 2017, solely for 'vidding' (creating HQ video edits) and 'giffing' (creating HQ animated gifs & photo edits). So basically, I got a top-notch laptop for creating multimedia art. I'd been using Toshiba, Dell, and Sony Vaio laptops for these purposes since I was a teen, but made the permanent switch to MSI so that I'd have a more trusty, long-lasting device to work with - and one that could powerfully & seamlessly maintain all the programs I use (Adobe software, in addition to Vegas Pro, Blender, etc) without randomly crashing or freezing up. For the last three years, I literally never used this precious laptop for anything else, *ever*, and never had any issues - so imagine how thoroughly I freaked out when that one day last week, after having been away for two weeks, I opened it up and found the keyboard and trackpad bulging out, like it would burst open at any moment! It was horrible.....that was last to last Friday. I quickly went on Best Buy's website and registered an appointment with the Geek Squad for the following Monday (exactly a week ago). Monday came (as I nervously eyed my poor MSI that weekend) and after work, I headed down to the BB appointment - only to be told that they wouldn't be able to do anything, since I hadn't purchased the laptop there :( The helpful associate did mention the name of a computer repair place that would definitely be able to help - A PLUS COMPUTERS!! It turns out that Lawrence, the dedicated genius who owns and operates A Plus, not only perfectly repairs all types, models, and generations of computers and other devices, but he's the one who Best Buy themselves go to for special builds and configurations! He is the definition of expert and there's no one else I'll ever take this MSI or any other device to in the future! He knew immediately upon seeing the MSI that we were dealing with a dangerously swollen battery; he opened it up, fixed the damaged frame completely by unbending it & straightening it out as good as new, and immediately ordered a new battery! The battery arrived this morning, he replaced it, and it was all perfect and ready to go! Lawrence didn't charge at all for so meticulously fixing the frame & I only paid for the battery itself - I'm still in shock at how amazing of a deal this all was! (For comparison, Best Buy indicated there would be a whopping $200 charge to merely open the computer up for diagnostics, and they still wouldn't be able to do anything at all other than diagnose what the problem was!) I have always done the work on my CAD workstation computer myself. When it started shutting down on its own I thought that I could fix it myself. Sometimes when I started it it would shut down before it could boot up. I attempted to run tests to determine what the problem was but it would always shut down before the tests were completed. My computer was acting like it was possessed. I was afraid that all the invaluable data on the hard drive would be lost. I found A Plus Computers on Yelp. Since I had never taken any of my computers into a shop for repairs before, I really had no idea where to go. A Plus Computers had good reviews on Yelp so I gave them a call. The technician that I spoke with said that if I brought it in they would take a look at it. When I got there the technician opened the case and immediately knew what the problem might be. He said that if I left it with him over night he would have it ready the next day. I agreed to leave it at A Plus Computers. They were able to replace the malfunctioning components with similar components that they had on hand so that I could pick it up the next day and continue working on my projects. They were able to find and order components that are identical to the originals which they installed when I returned a couple days later. The CAD workstation now runs faster than ever and no data was lost. I totally trust A Plus Computers to work on my computers. Lawrence totally came through for me at 4 on a Friday afternoon. My laptop was not charging and I suspected the DC jack. I brought it in and Lawrence said "Give me 20 minutes and I'll call you." I ran some errands and he called me. He had replaced the part. Still my computer wasn't charging but the connection was solid. I needed more watts. He plugged me in to a 125w charger and off it went. I have a Lenore LP. I goofed by hitting one key to update driver and goofed again by updating my operating system. Then stopping the process midway. The result was I lost approximately 14 apps. Plus my volume control was closed and no longer able to use volume either. Took it to A Plus. The owner did a quick analysis. Told me what happened and said he'd be able to get it all back together again the following day. The fee was minimal, the job was done quickly, and he was able to get all my apps back. Plus he had noticed a few of my keys sticking (I have grandchildren and they like eating candy while pressing on the keyboard). Well, he was able to remove the candy and keys work great.
