I've been a pilgrim 3x and the food you get at towns and villages on the trail is so homestyle and down-to-earth. Getting into bigger cities is a shock because there feels like there's so much engineering going into "delicacies" and "gourmet dishes" fit for a city restaurant. The beauty of Fogar de Galicia is they're bringing you the kinds of homestyle foods we had on the road as pilgrims, straight from local farms. I got a zucchini stir-fry that was so immensely fresh; a "shakshuka" (a hearty tomato/cumin/egg dish) where the egg yolks were the deepest orange, and a great cider made in Galicia. My friends loved the glutinous options too, all farm-to-table. The place is simple, with low-key counter-ordering and basic table service. The ambience is festive almost all the time since there are so many pilgrims with so much to celebrate! It was an awesome find and I hope to eat there again on my next Camino.

My aunt had a gazpacho that was equally tasty and we shared some appetizers that were just as great. When I walked to the bathroom I noticed the albergue side of the joint. The bathroom was ample and incredibly clean, and although I didn't see the rooms I can only imagine that the bathroom reflects upon the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms. It's also near the entrance of Arzua which is convenient for tired pilgrims.

Based on the menu description, we expected some creamy white rice and chunks of lobster. But, NO! We got a small paella pan of marvelous red rice very similar to a paella, but stickier and with more tomato flavor. Each of us also got (embedded in the rice) half a lobster. OMG! A dinner to die for. This would have been a 5-star rating save for the incredibly loud atmosphere and the signature dessert of chocolate covered chestnuts which were delicious, but mealy. Still, I highly recommend Enxebre, especially if you are staying at the parador.
