We just finished our second sewing class with Antoinette. It was my three 20 something children and I. She is patient, helpful, and fun. She lets your creativity shine. We will back for more classes.

My daughter began sewing class a few months ago with another seamstress/instructor, but due to availability was unable to register for addition sessions. With this we decided to try classes with Ms. Antoinette. To start, I like that she offers classes during the week and the weekend for kids. Although a home based business, she has her f Rdr floor closed off for sewing classes and there are plenty of workstations for students. The class was two hours with gave my daughter plenty of time to prep, start and finish her project without being rushed. After class, I was able to speak with the instructor, who was pleasant and provided great feedback. I look forward to the next scheduled sessions with Ms. Lee.

I loved taking the beginner's quilting class with Antoinette. I hadn't used a sewing machine in over 10 years, but she broke the quilt down into really manageable steps. Her goal is to help the people in her class become independent makers, and I feel like she absolutely met that mark for me. In her class, it's okay to make mistakes - she'll explain where you went wrong and why, so you know what to look out for and avoid next time. If I want to make a quilt again in the future, I'll have the skills and knowledge needed to do so comfortably.

Ask the Community - A Special Lee Sewing and Craft Cafe

I have a bunch of quilting supplies such as fabric swatches and batting material which I am not going to use. I would like to donate them to someone who will make use of them. Any suggestions?

Hi Diane, the best thing to do would be to get in touch with Antoinette Lee at ‭(202) 669-7200‬. Thank you!

I'm a clothes horse who wears a shirt and a tie every day. When I found out about Kc, I was anxious…read moreto try them. The prices were very good, less than many high end, off the rack, ill fitting, name brand shirts. I called Keith, and he told me when he'd be in to measure. He didn't show, so we made another appointment for him to come to the retail business I manage. Another appt, no show. I applied the 3 strikes rule, and he came. The fabrics were amazing, the options were exactly what I wanted, so I placed my order & paid in advance. He's been doing this for 35 years so the trust was high. Delivery was 4 to 6 weeks, which is reasonable for custom. At week 8, I called him to find out what was going on. I was told there was a fabric back order, and that they would be ready soon. I said, no problem, just don't rush them. I wanted them done properly. 4 weeks later, they were delivered. Oddly, the box was marked rush. I took them home, hand washed them, ironed them and tried them on. The collar on 1 of the 2 was unwearably tight. The armholes were pulling the fabric because they were too tight. The collars and cuffs were not exactly as specified, but I figured that could be corrected on the next order. We started negotiating on shirt #2 and It was decided that if the seams were let out and the collar was remade, all would be well. I gave him the shirt and was told 2 weeks. 6 weeks later and 3 phone calls later, he dropped the shirt off at work. When I got home, I looked at it. None of the work had been done as promised. The collar button had been moved an inch. That's all that was done. This absolutely doesn't work on a pin collar, because it's still too tight when you put the pin in. I called and left a message that I was disappointed that he hadn't done what was promised. I have not received any return calls in 5 weeks. I had hoped to set up a regular purchase of shirts every couple of months from Keith. Instead, I have a shirt I can't wear, a shirt that is tight, and won't buy any others from him. Any time something is custom made, there will be some issues in the first run. I was prepared for that. No one in business can afford to keep customers if they don't give a reasonable level of service. He will lose my repeat business, and I lose the opportunity to have shirts that really fit properly. Don't bother to buy from him unless you have money to throw away. By the way, the shirts were very well made in the U.S. If we had worked out the fit issues, I'd be buying more right now.

    Columbia Heights

HORRIBLE!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE…read more The workers and management at Q & Q Cleaners displayed behavior that I experienced as discriminatory, dismissive, and deeply unprofessional. As a person of color in Columbia Heights, DC, a neighborhood built on diversity and a multicultural community, I found the way I was treated both troubling and unacceptable. I brought in two white shirts to be cleaned. They were returned damaged. When I calmly asked what had happened and attempted to resolve the issue, the response was not accountability, an apology, or any attempt to make things right. Instead, management chose to close my account rather than address the problem. Being treated this way raises serious concerns about how customers of color are viewed and handled by this business. Rather than engage in basic customer service, they simply shut the door when questioned. In a neighborhood like Columbia Heights, where businesses benefit directly from a diverse community, this kind of conduct is particularly disturbing. People of color should be aware of how they may be treated here. And frankly, anyone who does not tolerate racism or discriminatory behavior should think twice about supporting this business. Businesses that operate in diverse communities have a responsibility to treat all customers with fairness and respect. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Q & Q Cleaners. A business that responds to legitimate concerns by pushing customers out instead of taking responsibility should not expect the trust or support of the community.
