This is the kind of place your stylish, arty, fashionable aunt would shop. The one who looks a little younger than she really is, who holds art exhibitions and skews a little eastern on the house decor. So they have tons of cool stuff, cut for more mature bodies and that veers to conservative with higher necklines and long sleeves. They've also got quite the collection of higher-end jeans. Anyways, as with all places like this, there is always something to find for us younger gals. Some of their pieces are ageless, timeless and always gorgeous. Got a Marant top, and a brand I'd never heard of, but they had a huge selection of stuff and I wish I'd had a little more time. Things were neatly organized by color and then by style- for example tops started sleeveless, graduating to short sleeves, then long sleeves. But all sizes mixed in- but that's part of the digging fun. Staff was so lovely and helpful, quick to offer a dressing room start seconds after I started carrying something. Also exciting that they have color coded tags. I felt like Charlie looking for that golden Wonka ticket, and was thrilled that my most expensive item was 50% off. Total score. But recently I walked by and saw a really nice party dress...perfect for the holiday season. I was in a rush though so I noted the dress and came back about a week later on a weekend. The dress was no longer on display but I found it easily enough on the rack. They had a few sizes left and thankfully one that looked like it would fit. No sooner did I have the dress in hand, did a sales woman offer to start a fitting room for me. A little pushy but after that she didn't bother me so I can't complain. I quickly glanced around the store. There was a lot going on and most of the styles I saw weren't my thing. I think they cater to a slightly older crowd (late 40's/50's +) (they did have a cruise wear section). They also have stuff that I'd consider to be a little more whimsical/unique in design which isn't my personal preference but I could picture some women I know who would love the clothes there. The dress fit perfectly (yay for in-change-room mirrors) and I made the purchase...at just a little over $100 it was a good deal on a party dress in my opinion. I'd recommend shopping at this store on the weekends as it always looks a bit busy during weekdays. Also, during the week they have live mannequins stationed at the door. They creep me out a little bit but others may not mind :)

Today (very upset) because the lights were on, 2 ladies working in the store and the doors were locked. I knocked and the moment the saw me, they went to the back room. I didn't think it was a store for a young lady, I thought it was a store that sold mostly black pants and turtlenecks. As I followed my sister into the store, I realized I had been wrong all these years. I was pleasantly surprised at the wide selection of clothing hanging from the racks. Yes, RW & Co. does sell black pants and turtlenecks, but they also sell much, MUCH more. And it's not crazy expensive like I thought either! They've got everything from jeans to hats, dresses to jewellery, and their prices are comparable to Banana Republic and Club Monaco. Plus they use recyclable bags, which is a nice touch, unlike their competitors who continue to use plastic. I ended up leaving the store with a super cute pair of jeans in hand, along with the environmentally friendly bag, of course! Like I said, I was pleasantly surprised with my most recent experience at RW & Co. and I no longer plan to be a stranger.

Calgary's East Village is an up-and-coming neighborhood. It's development has been slowed down by…read morelower oil prices (the big industry in these parts), so who knows what this area will look like next year. In the meantime, there's enough construction here to imagine the possibilities. That includes the retail outposts like Liz & Lottie who have staked their success on their stylish taste and the promise of a lot more foot traffic past their shop. I wandered on a recent Friday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed this version of retail therapy. Liz & Lottie is more geared perhaps to those who are "sugar and spice and everything nice", but for folks like me (e.g. snips and snails and puppy dog tails), there some interesting things, plus loads of gift opportunities. I also enjoyed their nice selection of local and Canadian items and their good taste in selecting and displaying their wares. Liz & Lottie was definitely worth the extra bit of East Village discovery exploration. Best wishes for your continued success.

My super stylish and in the know sister in law has been finding awesome gifts at Liz & Lottie for everyone in the family since they've opened and I have been following them on Instagram to keep tabs on the new items coming into the shop. The two owners are super kind and helpful, I've messaged them on Instagram with shopping requests/items I am looking for and they have sent me back pictures of products they have in store that match the request -- how nice is that! I often visit on my lunch break as they are tucked into the East Village at the bottom of one of the high rises but it's easy to get there either from walking through the river walk, taking the train to the end of the free line then going for a short stroll or driving right up there. On this visit I walked away with gift for four upcoming events! A sassy and slightly inappropriate valentines card for my husband, a baby shower gift, a gender reveal party gift and a birthday party gift. Trust me I could have kept shopping! Great place to find all sorts of treasures including local and Canadian makers which is so great to see.
