I normally don't write such long Yelp reviews but my dealings with Mark Braithwaite of A to Z Roofing were so positive I feel compelled to write this. I manage multiple properties and have worked with many contractors over the years. When I meet someone who provides exceptional service I feel the need to share my thoughts... Mark came out to our home in Buellton to repair a roof leak and fix some broken rain gutters. He was prompt and courteous and the price was very fair. I would definitely call A to Z Roofing for any future roofing or rain gutter issues. As a side note, it is also worth mentioning he is licensed and fully insured. This is so important when hiring a contractor, especially a roofer because of the potential risk of injury. You may get a cheaper quote from an unlicensed roofer (because they are probably not paying for Workers Comp Insurance) but you will be on the hook for medical bills and lost wages if one of the workers falls off your roof. Totally not worth the risk, especially if you are a homeowner. I am very satisfied with the price and service of A to Z Roofing! read more

Recently had to have our homes roof redone thanks to our home owners insurance attempting to drop our coverage. I explained this to Mark and he worked with me to quickly have the work done on our tight timeline. He was very knowledgeable and responsive throughout the whole process. he and his team quickly provided quality work for great value. Every time it rains I am reminded of A to Z Roofing. In 2012 they installed a new roof my house. In 2021 I had 5 significant leaks and contacted Mark, the owner. He first said that it was the shingles but Owens Corning(the maker of the shingles) said "nope" it was the workmanship of the installer. A to Z's workmanship guarantee is five years. Mark came out and replaced some of the shingles which only made the problem worse. After numerous phone calls and conversations with Mark I still have 5 significant leaks. We had a leak in the roof and had contacted several roofing companies to come out and Inspect the damage. Mark with A-Z not only showed up, but came on a Saturday, got on the roof himself, and fixed the problem quickly. We will only be using A-Z moving forward. Just upset we didn't call him sooner. I am responding to the review from the roofing crook catcher from San Francisco. First of all he doesn't have a clue what he is tal. king about. Second he is a tenant of this unit I own it and I have no problems with any of the work that was done and I'm pretty sure that none of the other owners do either. So all I have to say is Mark and his crew did a great job and I would refer them to anyone that needs quality roofing at a fair price. This review is not about quality of work or price, but rather business practices. This occurred on 9/26/2019: Myself and my entire family and most of the staff at the hotel we were staying at in Solvang witnessed a bald man with sunglasses (I assume the foreman or owner) berate, talk down to, harass, and yell at his own employees loudly in public in front of guests at a hotel where he had been contracted to work for hours and hours. His display that he put on for the benefit of his own ego and maybe to impress the guys on his crew, was extremely unprofessional and shows a complete lack of basic skills necessary to be in a position of authority over employees. This guy might be a great roofer. Who knows? Really doesn't matter if the attitude of the guy on the job destroys all credibility of his ability to control himself anymore than a three year old child. I just really feel sorry for the guys who have to take this abuse for the needs of a paycheck. No person should ever be publicly berated, harassed, or disrespected by their employer. Period. And this guy can see us watching him. After complaining to the hotel manager (a hotel owned by Chumash Casino), she assured me that they would never be using A to Z Roofing again in any capacity as it relates to Chumash Casino. She said they had received several complaints from other guests and that he was even rude to her personally when she asked him to delay starting work until 8am so as to limit disturbance to the guests. If this is this guy "Mark", I would really reconsider before doing business with this company unless he's no longer involved, goes to some kind of anger management course, gets sued by one of his employees and just goes out of business, or it's an absolute emergency and no other roofers are available and you're okay with hiring a guy who treats his employees like dogs who owe him a favor. read more

We had a stubborn roof leak that would start dripping inside the house from a window as well as a gutter overflow problem in the front that was destroying our stucco. Mark had to come out twice and try a couple things to finally nail the leak but he stuck with it, put significant time and effort into it and got the job done! The second time he came they had to leave after a couple hours to procure extra materials but they came back the same day and kept at it. The font flashing issue was a quick fix for Mark. My wife and I appreciate the hard work and are very happy to have our living room back leak free!!! A+ job! Another A+ for not giving up on a very non-obvious leak problem! read more

We just hired Mark and his crew to replace our old roof at our house and the quality of work and professionalism that went into it were absolutely top notch! They diligently kept all the driveway areas and back patio areas free of debris and nails! They even blew the driveway off when they were finished! Mark was very transparent about the whole process and answered all our questions and concerns. Needless to say the job was done in 2 days the roof looks amazing and Mark is a great guy and his crew were great as well! Family owned and operated small business that you can see the results! Highly recommended. Mark at A to Z roofing is a very no-nonsense, honest, and reasonable roofer. We recently had questions about our roof, and asked for another opinion from Mark. He responded very quickly to our request on Yelp. He gave us a bid that was 1/6th the other roofer's, partly because he has reasonable prices but mostly because he advised against fixing a *potential* issue that he said was unlikely to be a problem in reality and more likely to become a problem if we opened up the roof. That kind of honesty (turning down work he could have had) is worth a lot to me. In the process, he spent several calls explaining the issues to me and addressing my concerns. He performed that duty adequately, but when I called to speak with him about the estimate and we completed our conversation he didn't realize I had not hung up the phone and began shouting at someone else in the room (I assume he was not talking to himself) about what a waste of time my potential business was for him. There was no reason for new tile. I believe he sold us on new tile but reused the old tile ,the color variations in the tiles are obvious. He also fake installed the much needed insulation on the tpo flat roof areas.He took the insulation with him as well as tile and roofing paper.He had a lot of leftover paper because he only put on one layer instead of the required two layers. The tile looks horrible. It's not fastened correctly and frankly, its not suitable for a dog house. His own pictures of his own jobs show he doesn't use roofing mastic on hip and ridge tile, and rake tiles need two nails each with mastic also.It is code compliant practice.The damaged plywood from the old roof was not replaced even though he did see it at the time of tear off. The only aspect that was done good was sweeping the driveway. If he is confident in his work ,i invite him to come and stand below the two story rake tiles while i simulate a 100 year storm like he simulated putting on the insulation.By the way there are two special needs kids that are cold with the other residents that he cheated out of the material . read more

This review is solely on the professionalism of the staff of the company, not the quality of work. This company was hired to work on my place of employment for a week, a professional medical environment with curbside service and appointments/clients coming and going all day long. The workers from A to Z roofing were screaming expletives at each other and yelling unprofessional things throughout the work day, when the noise wasn't covered by them blasting their radio through the block. Some of it seemed to be a foreman or boss being highly inappropriate toward his employees. Knowing that your crew is working on an actively open business should have stopped them from loudly using curse words and derogatory language while the parking lot is full of clients and people trying to communicate but this courtesy never occurred to them. Irritating to deal with for employees and customers, and based on interactions with this company's employees I would never personally hire them to be anywhere near my home or business. read more

I needed a repair done on my roof asap with all the rainy weather we've been having. I've had it repaired before but it's always been a quick fix. In the past, I've had issues getting other companies to pick up the phone let alone show up for appointments. Mark picked up right away, told me he could come by for an estimate and the work was scheduled the same week. Look elsewhere, they are not professional at all. I chose them because they were available to work on my roof fast. I found out why they were available the hard way. You might put one roof on your house the entire time you own it. It's too important an investment to risk having this company do it. Almost any company in Lompoc will probably do a better job. read more

The property management company I am currently renting a house through hired A to Z roofing to replace the entire roof. First, they showed up an entire week late without giving notice. Once they arrived, I received a loud banging on my front door at 7:30am. When I opened the door, the owner Mr. Mark Braithwaite, was standing on my front lawn screaming at me to move my cars from the driveway, saying the property management company should have informed me. I told him that I was not informed of that and that one of the cars is inoperable and the other is a stick shift, which I cannot drive. I offered to call my husband at work to come home to try to move them and he continued to scream at me to the point I began to cry. One of his workers was very kind and apologized to me on his behalf. The workers were all very nice people, but Mr. Braithwaite never apologized for the way he spoke to me or even acknowledged me while he worked on the roof. I have never been treated with such disrespect in my entire life. While the workers were very kind and did good work, I would not recommend this company to anyone due to the disgusting behavior of the owner. read more
