Last Friday a special order was placed with a Monday (next business day) assured item being ready for will call. Come Monday I drive 25miles across town, which is also the exact opposite direction my job is located. So actually a 50mile round trip added to the 40mile trip I was going initially. I receive a report that the trip was wasted. Why? Because the guy who took my order and payment wrote MINNEAPOLIS as the destining for pickup. So I'm assured it will be redirected back to Madison Wisconsin. Tuesday. I didn't drive to the place on Tuesday, I made a phone call. My wire is now in Milwaukee still, I was informed that instead of the wire being sent all the way, they would reissue the order FROM Milwaukee and send it west, 70miles right Madison. But someone again messed up. Wednesday? Sure. Nope. It still wasn't here yesterday. At least not in the morning. So another wasted day. Finally it's Thursday and my wire is in my hands. Not a word of apology or any kind of acknowledgment that it took literally a full week. I'll of course allow myself to get over this irritation but it really does feel like I am a nothing of a customer. There are four other electrical suppliers on Madison's east side that have been doing business with, and one I only very recently became aware of on my western side of the city is gay I'll very likely establishing a business relationship with in the future.

On a recent stop I was able to pick up from French toast marshmallows to stick in the kid's Christmas stocking, a cute reindeer decor piece for my mantle, a throw pillow cover for our sunroom pillow, a book for my nephew, socks for my brother, and two of the most delicious smelling candles. I highly recommend the "December" scent! The candles are hand made by the owners and they all are cutely named such as "hey girl", "hugs" and "boujee". They also make their own soaps. I had to restrain myself from buying more! Owners, Erin and Frank are the nicest and dogs are welcome to come on in (they also offer a selection of pets items). Erin does the most gorgeous job hand wrapping gifts to take the stress of of you having to do anything additional. She also can put together the most amazing gift baskets that are customized specifically to your liking. Brooklyn barn was beyond generous in donating a gift basket for my daughter's preschool fundraiser to use as a silent auction item and it was fought over by many! The store hours are currently posted as 10-4pm, Thursday through Sunday. If you come in whenever the enthusiastic owner Troy is there, he'll help explain certain products to you and answer any questions you have. Troy guarantees he's used almost all of his products so he knows the ins and outs of it all. He also has history as a lifter and it shows. With this knowledge he's willing to help with workout plans and meal plans as well. Last of all, this is a local business, and its always good to see our own Wisconsin residents succeeding. It is still looking great on Feb. 13!! I've never had cut flowers last this long. No drooping, no dropped petals, no issues at all. I have added floral solution to the vase daily to keep the water level high. I'm using my 4th packet now. The flowers are drinking up like crazy. I received a sealed envelope at a bridal show from Mahin's saying if I scheduled an appointment and…read moreselected my dress from there I could receive a "prize" up to a certain amount. I scheduled my appointment which they were nice about - they have good store hours. I explained what I wanted and my price range. They didn't have the type of dress I was looking for - tea length, strapless, corset back - but I picked out some dresses from the stuffy old rooms to try on. After trying them on Mahin said "I have just the dress for you." She brought in a dress that was very pretty, and a little more than DOUBLE my price range. I tried it on anyways, which I shouldn't have. It was an amazing dress and we sucked it up and bought it. My "prize" was a veil up to $200. I explained I didn't want a veil but rather a birdcage, which they have, and she said the "prize" didn't cover that I would have to get a veil or nothing. They added that if my bridesmaids bought their dresses from them they would receive a discount so we scheduled an appointment. When we came for that appointment she seemed annoyed by us, maybe she was having a bad day. I had one girl who was too little for the dress we ended up choosing so they gave us a book to look through for junior brides and flower girls. We didn't find anything we liked and said we'd look elsewhere for that last dress. Fast forward several weeks and I receive a call saying my dress was in. She said she noticed that I had 5 bridesmaids but that we had only ordered 4 dresses and she hadn't ordered them yet because she was waiting on the 5th one to decide on a dress. I explained that we had decided the day we were there not to order the 5th dress from her and she was quite rude saying that I never told her that and now the dresses may not arrive on time. I asked her to order the dresses and she did. When I came to try my dress on I immediately noticed an awful smell when entering the fitting room. It smelled like fish, bad! When putting the dress over my head it was clear the smell was coming from the dress. I was too excited to see the dress I didn't mention it. Then the dress didn't fit - it was too small. Mahin didn't seem to think anything of it and said when they had it altered they would move the modesty panel and it would be fine. While standing in what seemed to be a room with the temperature set to 120 degrees having her pin my hem she was again quite rude. She actually got quite loud with me when she insisted that I had moved and she would have to redo part of the pinning. My mother had to stand with me holding my arms so I didn't pass out due to the temperature so if I moved, I didn't mean to. $500+ later after alterations to hem it a few inches and put in the bustle I came back to try the dress on again. The fishy stench remained, the bustle clips were horrible, the hem was still too long, and it STILL DIDN'T FIT! Again, she didn't think anything of it and said that if I wear a girdle that should take care of it. I finally mentioned the smell, after everyone I had there with me said "yes, it's awful" and she didn't notice it. She said "maybe after we steam it it'll be better." The girls dresses came in and we decided NOT to use her alteration services so we just picked them up and left. The dresses were as expected and were all a little big, but that's better than small. I decided to pick my dress up several weeks before the wedding to see if we could do something about the smell. I "googled" it and apparently dresses that are shipped from over seas are sprayed with pesticides so that could have been the reason. We left it hang out and it got better, but never totally went away. I took my dress with to a different seamstress when the girls had their alterations done to ask for a different modesty panel to help my dress fit better and the wonderful woman explained that my dress was not anywhere near the right size. So, another $300+ later she put in panels on the side of the dress to get it to fit the best it could. This was all AFTER I had lost 15 lbs since I had been fitted in the first place. In the end, my $600 dress budget ended up costing me over $2000 and I smelled like fish on my wedding day.

After being measured once, I came back and it was like the dress was custom made for me. On top of that, Mahin clearly loves what she does. She made me feel so comfortable and welcome, and even let me bring my grandparents who can't make it to my wedding. I think she was as excited as I was when I found the perfect dress. The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but don't let the appearance fool you. There's a huge selection inside, with lots of different styles. Highly recommended!
