I got a voucher for The Castle Hotel on the back of a Dunnes Stores Reciept. A 2 night stay for 2ppl with breakfast each morning and one evening meal with a bottle of wine for 230euro. On Entering the Hotel on Friday afternoon we were greeted by a lovely lady, very jolly and chatty and couldn't give us enough information. she gave us a tourist map for cork and also a tourist map for the town of Macroom. She gave us all the information we needed about meal times, leisure centre times, the location of everything within the hotel and gave us some suggestions on where to go in the evenings or during the day in the town. The room was lovely, we had a king size bed and a single bed, tea and coffee facilities with my favourite cinnamon biscuits.....its the only reason I stay in Hotels....so yum! :) we also had an ironing board and iron, a telephone, a television with more channels than I would usually expect in a hotel. The only thing I felt was missing from the room was a hairdryer but, most people only stay here for a short time so I suppose they aren't really needed. That's just me being a typical picky woman! :P Oh and the windows were great!!!....nothing I find more irritating than tiny windows looking out at a wall or windows that hardly open an inch! the room had a big window, that opened...wide, it was great :) :) :) Overall I thought the rooms were spotless clean, the beds were very comfortable, the decor was warm and homely and of course ye....the biscuits :)

The room we stayed in was quite large, and appeared to be rather new. I don't know how long the hotel has been around, but it had that nice "new hotel feeling" I like. Everything was spotless and clean - which is always the first thing I am looking at wherever I stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, and in the morning, we were served a fantastic breakfast before getting on the road. Oh, one other thing I missed. The day before, we ate at the Wallis Arms' restaurant. The food was fantastic (again - well priced as well), but that is not why I mention it. My advice is, if you have the chance, make sure to order the stuffed mushrooms before anything (and then you can get the big steak or whatever else suits you). Anyway, that's my thoughts. I took the time to write this because I really appreciate places that are good value for the money. Given that the currency conversion from dollars to euros makes everything more expensive already, I really liked not feeling like I was being taken advantage of because I was a tourist.

You could easily stay on property with the abundance of activities, food options, great bar and lounges, and just lovely grounds to walk and explore but they also offer trips into town as well. You aren't going to get those views many places, and we absolutely loved having breakfast by the Falls every morning. From a full Irish breakfast to fresh brewed coffee and pastries, it's a wonderful way to start the day. Swallows flew in & out of their mud nests on the eaves all day, and we could hear their tiny twitters. After checking in, we all headed down to the hotel bar where Neil introduced us to local stouts, ciders & vodka. My Stonewell Medium Dry Irish Craft Cider was DELICIOUS. He even showed us a picture of his grandparents in front of the original (much smaller than it is now) hotel, many decades ago. There is rich history proudly commemorated in the framed art lining the hallways - lots of stories in these walls! Dinner was amazing. We had seen Chef Katy's brown bread Youtube video, so it was a treat to meet her in person. She has daily dinner specials that highlight the fresh fish that comes in. We loved all our entrees, but the brown bread & this starter left several of us talking: Irish Cheese Salad, Local Gubbeen, Coolea Cheese, Cashel Blue Cheese, smoked bacon, roast walnuts, caramelized balsamic & orange dressing. Breakfast was a mixture of self service meusli, stewed prunes/apricots/figs, grapefruit supremes, scones & croissants, cold cereals, yogurts, Katy's delish brown bread, brown bread crackers & cheeses, juices & tea or coffee and a menu of hot items to order from. As a guest here, you will feel the deep peacefulness from being surrounded by nature, & from warm personalized service. When hearing that one of my group had become ill, Neil & his team went out of their way to make him as comfortable as possible, offering pitchers of filtered ice water, soup & brown bread, and tea & porridge to bring up to his room.
